im quinn!! a fandom ancient baby-stepping back into posting because i missed writing. you can find the most up-to-date versions of my work on ao3, but i will Attempt to keep tumblr updated as well
this is gonna be a fandom blog for the duration, with the occasional ao3 links and such. if you dont want my personal/rant posts block #quinn speaks & #quinns rant tag. im a slut for that one-armed grouch, bucko barnes, so most content is probably gonna revolve around him. i do get distracted with other fandoms from time to time tho
and i do have a bg3 side blog
tag nav:
my masterlists/oneshots
metas ive written for fandoms AND metas written by others
the inspo tag for all my ammunition plot device needs
posts that are My Vibe
my favs is a junk drawer tag at the moment. i will eventually refine it into multiples
free serotonin (post abt my doggo)
my current writing projects:
-Good Space (12/40 chapters posted) / masterpost: a bucky/reader fic! reader is named (Ava) bc i cant write a fic that long without one. i need Something, but physical description is left purposely vague (well. okay. refs to ava being Curvy and having glasses, you're welcome to picture Whatever You Want). plot is fully mapped, it'll just take me a bit to write something That Big
-Kinktober '23: the posting has begun! ive mapped all 31 days and they're focused on my MCU canon that you can find in good space. i dont consider the end of october the cutoff. im a writer in this for Good Vibes, not a time crunch. all fics will eventually be posted
fandoms i vibe with/write for:
im not gonna sit here and list every single fandom i know bc i have adhd and that'd be a Bad Idea, so if you wanna know if im down to write for your fandom but dont see me blogging about it, you can go ahead and shoot me an ask. that said, here's the fandoms i like/intend to write for on my own end at the moment:
-marvel
-bg3
-mass effect
-dragon age
-outer worlds
-starfield
-fallout
writing requests:
i am open to taking writing requests!! you're welcome to submit them through my inbox or you can leave 'em on posts. up to you how descriptive you wanna get. seriously, any detail you can think of, go for it. you're not offending me by getting specific by any means
Some Blanket Rules:
-you can ask me to tw tag my posts. you can ask me to tw tag my fics. you have, at all times, my ACTIVE ENCOURAGEMENT to try to make my work safe for you. im happy to help in any way that i can, you're NOT bothering me by asking to put up warnings for things, its okay bb.
-however. please try to respect that im still A Person With Feelings. more importantly, to you, i am a stranger on the internet. acting like you've got some weird kind of authority over what kind of content im allowed to post is Really Fucked Up. please keep that attitude away from me. id recommend a therapist, but that's your call.
-i can, and will without hesitation, block anyone at the DROP of a hat if i catch bad vibes. im old. this is my house. i will make it a house i want to be in, anyone who fucks with that is no concern of mine. im just gonna block you and move on with my day.
-this is an anti-fandom-wank zone. i. am. old. (im not even 30 yet i should really stop saying that but i AM) and. tired. i cannot begin to describe to y'all how much i do not care about an internet stranger's biased view of something. leave me alone. im busy writing smut.
-in this house we believe in comfort fic supremacy
how is saying "i believe jewish people have the right to live in and maintain a state in the land we're indigenous to" seen as a violent statement by antisemitic leftists, but "death to israel" isnt? i know it's probably something to do with how this sort of leftist views death as something that is either a) a noble action or b) something someone deserves. or it's death being used to mean eradication by someone who for some reason doesnt understand that destroying medinat israel would cause so much pain, suffering, and death.
whatever it is it's an awful thing to say and extremely ignorant. it shows that these people view other nations as toys and dont actually understand or care what destroying one would do to the citizens living there and likely citizens of surrounding nations. plus also either they understand that israel also can refer to the jewish people or they still havent learnt the differences between medinat, eretz, and am yisrael. im scared when someone says "death to israel" bc wanting to destroy the only jewish state is bad enough, and they could mean wanting to destroy the people of Israel as well. personally i dont wanna give people the benefit of the doubt when it endangers jewish lives
house and wilson in house md is the opposite of queerbaiting. they are the most canon tragic friends to lovers situationship in fiction history they literally move in together, EVERYONE thinks they’re a couple, house literally fakes his own death just so he can be alone with wilson in his last few months of life, the show ends with them riding off into the sunset together. they literally love each other. the only thing missing is they don’t kiss (on screen). dear GOD. and this show is from 2004. house and wilson invented 90% of modern day queer ship dynamics. just saying.
@maxens, oh, so I guess Cynthia McKinney, former Green Party candidate for President of the United States and retired Congresswoman isn't actually a Leftist?
You can play "No True Scotsman" fallacy all you want, but the fact remains that antisemitic beliefs, conspiracy theories, and general attitudes are endemic on the Left. If you want to say that "No True Leftist is Antisemitic", then there are very few actual Leftists in my experience.
Yeah sadly leftism actually has a history of being strongly antisemitic that goes back over a century. The founder of the french socialist party, Jean Jaurès, was talking about the "Jewish race" and their "uncontrollable greed and need for capitalism". He also put down the bases for a strong striking right and social security. People can and very often do hold contradicting values. It would be nice in 2023 if they recognized that contradiction and stopped being violently bigoted however.
When I started presenting in a Jewish way online I was shunned out of almost all of my leftist circles. They’ll say there’s no hate like Christian love (true) but what they fail to realize is that there’s no exclusion like leftist inclusion. They say we care about human rights but the moment you are Israeli you become inhuman and destined for death anyway to them. And unfortunately, they just can’t seem to tell the difference between a Jew and an Israeli. Even before I made it known that I think Israel should exist in some capacity (my personal preference is a two state solution but they don’t care and only hear “I want to murder Palestinians” no matter what I say)I was ridiculed for being a murderer and for supporting a dictatorship government. BEFORE I said anything about Israel! To them, Jew is Israeli and Israeli is Jew. Never mind the something like hundreds of Muslims and Christians living there — but that doesn’t fit with their empowerment narrative so they just pretend it’s not happening :)
"Oh you're Jewish? You need to tell us your thoughts on Israel so we can decide if you're a Good Jew or a Bad Jew. The Good Jew is the one we use as a human shield against criticism against the Bad Jews who control everything. We are very progressive."
Unrealistic, in my experience. They wouldn't ask for your thoughts. You need to bark "Israel Is The Sole Source Of Evil In The World And Must Be Destroyed In Order For Mankind To Achieve Peace, The World Will Be Better Off Without Jews And I Will Support The Genocide Of Half Of The World's Jews!" without even needing prompting for them to consider you a "Good Jew"--and that "Good Jew" status is provisional until such time as you're dead, because a Living Jew might change their mind. The only Good Jew is a Dead Jew, after all.
And I'm only exaggerating a bit here. In one of those Leftist groups I mentioned above? I mentioned that I was Jewish at a meeting, and instantly the entire tone of the meeting changed. One member came up to me and demanded to know what I thought about Israel.
I tried to give a nuanced statement, and was interrupted by that member before I could even finish speaking. He told me, in all seriousness, that Israel was "emblematic of everything wrong with the world", and that in his ideal world, there would be no borders, no nations, no gods, and no masters, and there would be no need or place for a Jewish state, or indeed Judaism at all.
And nobody else in the room spoke up against his statement. Either they agreed, or they didn't want to get involved.
In essence, I was given the choice between being a member of the group and abandoning my heritage, or leaving.
Yeah sure we’ve all binged a long fic, but have you ever read a WIP and followed someone’s life?
Tidbits of information - (“I graduated today!”) - and small joys (“It’s my birthday!”) and you get to be there to say “This chapter made me cry, happy birthday, thank you for gifting us this”.
I remember reading this fic of someone at the end of high school, older than me then. They seemed infinitely wise, spoke of their future career and getting into the college they wanted. I remember them posting on days they felt like nothing could bring them down - and on days the whole world did and it’s the aftermath of a hospital visit. Cancer, I think it was, their father. I got to the end of the story, I know their father was fine, but also they got to finish their WIP. I graduated three years later than them, still dutifully wrote thank you notes in every comment. I wonder if they remember me, or just the collective of people reading the story as it updates.
Four years ago I was into my first year of university, my first year of figuring out being out in public spaces. I made excuses as to why my name didn’t match my paperwork and read a fic on the train, the same five chapters over and over again for the next years as I thought the story abandoned. It updated this week after such a long hiatus, I left another thank you comment.
There’s an author I love, they update their stories like a clockwork. When they don’t, I check their blog, just to see if their doing alright, not because I feel like they owe me, just to ensure whether I better get out my laptop to write that really detailed university level essay chapter analysis to get them smiling when their day sucked.
And then, once, when I was 17, I read a fic that hadn’t updated in over a decade. I wasn’t even in primary school when it started posting. On the last chapter, I left a comment that, in retrospect, was horribly rambly and most likely full of grammar mistakes. The author replied and though I couldn’t see their face, I thought of them crying. They were married now, had children, and hadn’t thought about this fic in years. They went through their files again, found another half written chapter and an outline. I got two new chapters to read that year.
And then, recently, someone told me they got back into writing original fiction because of my comments. I get to read nearly weekly chapters.
I love binge reading a finished fic, but nothing is ever going to top the feeling of anticipation of waiting for a chapter, the pure joy when someone tells you I was done with this, but you made me think of it again, so this is for you.
Anyway, I think we should romanticize reading WIPs more, growing up alongside the authors writing the stories we love.
Okay, wow, so this post blew up a little more than expected so I just wanted to say - thank you all for sharing your stories, be that your experiences as readers or as writers. I’m happy that this resonated with people, that it encouraged people to tell their favorite authors right now just how much they like their stories, that it made people pick up stories again they haven’t worked on in years.
I won’t lie and say that this post wasn’t motivated but what I thought was a fairly entitled post about only reading finished fics - but this genuinely made me want to leave more comments again. I already write them pretty frequently and rather in depth too when I’m on my laptop, but there’s always room for improvement - which I guess brings me to my next point.
Don’t let your love be quiet.
That conversation about your favorite fanfic you’re having in discord? Copy paste it to AO3, I promise you, that author will think about you for years to come. Send people asks, show that you’re not just sitting there waiting for an update. I’ve yet to meet an author who doesn’t excitedly go on a rant when asked how they thought of particular twist, what other ideas they’ve had.
I know it takes a lot of courage to tell people how much their words matter to you, but it’s so worth it.
I think over time, AO3 and particularly tumblr has lost a little of that celebration of fanfiction as a community building activity, that it isn’t just reading a chapter, but theorizing with others, talking to your favorite writers.
best part of this bit is just how long they let it be. it's not just a quick setup shot of house coming into the room with some music. you have to watch this man dance in as his employees go -_- in more than one shot
