The Cosplayer’s Revenge Inspired by Brian Katcher’s The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak
Slacker geek Zak and over-achieving nerd Ana find themselves at a comic con, looking for Ana’s lost little brother Clayton. HIJINKS ensue, including many run-ins with angry cosplayers. Read the book!
2 oz bottom shelf vodka (to represent slacker Zak)
6-8 oz seltzer water bottle, well shaken (for highly strung Ana)
Tangerine (to represent the elusive Clayton, in his orange shirt)
Midori (for the green fire retardant that rains from the ceiling when a fire alarm gets pulled and destroys a roomful of magic cards, enraging said magic card players.)
Strawberry (to represent the Strawberry Shortcake Cosplayer)
Ice (because this story is set in Seattle, and it’s cold there. And it is summer, and we want a cold drink!)
Sugar (for the cocaine Zak and Ana accidentally bumble into. These things happen)
Magic cards (because of course there are players of Magic the Gathering at a con!)
Arrow swizzle stick (for angry Katniss cosplayer, and the weaponry Ana steals from her)
Viking drinking horn (because this story couldn’t be complete without a gigantic drunken angry viking cosplayer!)
Open the seltzer water. It will probably explode all over you. This is part of the showmanship of preparing this drink.
In a shaker with ice, mix seltzer water with vodka.
Put a wedge of tangerine at the bottom of viking drinking horn. Like the search for Clayton, you shouldn’t be able to find until the end. But squeeze the rest of the tangerine into the vodka mixture, so that you are always tasting it, and know it is around somewhere.
Add midori, because it takes something crazy (or several crazy things!) to bring these ingredients together! Mix all ingredients in shaker.
Rim with cocaine. Er, we mean sugar.
Strain vodka/seltzer/midori into viking drinking horn.
Spear strawberry onto arrow swizzle stick, and add as garnish, along with a couple of magic cards.
MOCKTAIL:
Substitute generic lemon lime soda for vodka, and melon syrup for Midori. Here is a Martha Stewart recipe, though Martha Stewart would be the last person you would expect at a con!
