Riverdale is bad
Riverdale is bad, yes. That’s the point.
I think something a lot of people don’t understand about the show is that it’s supposed to be bad. Riverdale is supposed to have dialogue like “I’d recognize those abs anywhere” and “I’m cookoo bananas for you, obvi”, that’s their thing.
I now find it profoundly amusing when someone posts about how bad it is or about how awful the writers are at their jobs ‘cause like, can you be any more arrogant and egocentric? Imagine thinking you can do a better job at writing a fucking worldwide streamed TV show than people who have been in the industrie for longer than since you were in diapers.
Furthermore, do you think they don’t realize their dialogues and plots are unrealistic? Take the (and yes, this show justifies the use of the word) awful Heathers reboot; their use of “edgy” dialogue is not meant to be a joke, you can tell the writers take their word choice seriously when in Riverdale even Cole said they try not to laugh while saying their lines. No one. Absolutely no one can write for a teen in this day and age “It came from the core of my bosom” and not mean it as a joke, satire if you must.
That’s the thing that defines Riverdale, its very essence, as Jughead would put it. They changed their formula from season one, it’s not the same show anymore and that’s okay, I like season two and three way better even if it sometimes frustrates me.
Season one took itself seriously and that was a poor decision that they redeemed with the now infamous dialogue of “I’m weird, I’m a weirdo”. A CW show can’t take itself completely seriously, of course they can discuss serious topics and of course it can be good, take Jane The Virgin for example. An amazing show, absolutely genius, great actors, representation on check, good plots and yet it’s self conscious and makes fun of itself. Riverdale made the decision to become a satire of what it was in season one because it understood its target audience. They understood teens like incessant shots of KJ Apa’s abs and endless dialogues of Cole Sprouse telling Lili Reinhart she’s the queen of his teen gang.
AND IT FUCKING WORKED.
So stop whining (or don’t, honestly, this hellsite is made out of drama queens and crybabies) about dialogue and laughable storylines. I’m not saying to stop being critical of the show, it has its fair share of questionable and outright terrible decisions (the whole Beronica queer baiting, the way Choni was developed, the romanticization of awful parents, sexualization of teens, etc), I’m just writing this because a lot of people don’t know it’s supposed to be the way it is.

Dear everyone who is currently working on a Thing, whatever that Thing may be,
Good luck with the Thing. You can do the Thing. You will do the Thing. You just have to do the Thing.
Best wishes,
Someone who is also doing a Thing
