“That’s true. You have to take that into consideration when you are dealing with a break. You have to make sure you don’t give them some sort of medication that they could easily become addicted to if they were already addicted to some sort of drug and that kind of stuff, so yeah. I would say you are right about that. But I hate when people say patients are crazy because I don’t believe in one bit. I just think that you lost your way.

“I’ve been called crazy a lot. And I’ve had doctors tell me I just want attention. So part of me doesn’t even believe you a little bit. But then again, what reason would you have to lie to me? Hopefully dealing with patients for years won’t make you jaded.”

“Pleased to meet you, Constance.”

“Yeah, it’s my first day. It kind of feels like being a freshman all over again, I’ve got the first day jitters and everything.”

“First day always feels really surreal to me.”

“I mean, yeah.. They do want my help.. But as a doctor here, I assume they would want my help too. Since nurses hand out the medication and all that, the doctors don’t deal with them as much except when it comes to major stuff like needed surgery or passing out or even broken bones or something, you know?”

“It’s not always that easy. Not when mental illness or shit like that is involved. Being crazy sucks.”

“Sorry I’m a crappy tourist. I’m Ivy by the way.”

“Hi Ivy. I’m Constance.”

“Did you just arrive?”

“Yeah, that’s all I really do right now.” He told the girl and smiled. He hadn’t thought about it in a while. What kind of doctor did he really want to be? “I don’t know to be quite honest with you. I might want to work with patients like you guys, or I was kind of thinking about a surgeon in a real hospital.”

“I think we’re probably going to be spending a lot of time together,” Constance said with a giggle. “And that wasn’t me saying I’m planning on hurting myself, so you don’t have to report that.”

“Both are equally exciting, I’m sure both would provide lots of challenges. But I guess at least if you’re a surgeon most of your patients probably want your help.”

“I do some stuff since I have been in school for two years now and am technically a registered nurse, but I also shadow the doctors because I think that’s what I might want to do.”

“Let me guess. Stuff like taking vital, giving out crazy pills, and doing stitches? What kind of doctor? Just a normal one, or one for people like us?”

“I am an intern here. I am twenty-two years old.”

“We’re the same age. You’re here learning, and I am a patient, wow.. What do you do around here, or are you just here to observe?”

Christmas

 Claira decided that she was going to put her best foot forwards and try to be in the christmas spirit, her best friend and sent her a present in an attempt to help her  out over the holidays. Claira rolled her eyes as she opened the present but slipped into  it anyway. Making her way to the dining hall she smile as those eating “  Merry Christmas Everyone “ 

The feeling of not being with family for Christmas wasn’t anything new for Constance, but that didn’t mean it hurt any less or felt better. Safe to say her mood reflected the anger that being in this place made her feel. Seeing other people smiling only made her more angry, so when a girl walked in with a smile all Constance could do was look the other way and hope not to be noticed.

“Would you mind pointing me toward the restroom?” Ivy asked the person standing in the hallway with her. 

“I’m not sure I remember where it is, but I can walk around with you and try to find it?”

“I mean, I know it’s hard being in here against your will. I really do. But it just feels nice being in one of these places, but being able to leave for the night.”

“You work here? You look sorta young.”

“Yeah I did. But that’s also probably because i get to leave everyday.”

“Maybe don’t say that around patients that are here against their will?”

[con-stance-young]

     “Right, well are you alright now? Want anything? Some tea, hot cocoa?” Jane motioned towards a small box holding tea packets and cocoa mix.

“I’m fucking grand, except for the fact that I’m locked up in a mental hospital. There are lots of things I want. To get out of here, drugs, booze, some privacy and freedom. But I’m assuming I don’t get those things.”

“I’d like to keep my blood inside of my body…”

“Okay, I guess I’ll let you keep your blood.”

“Not making jokes, I just know how to own up to the reason for me being here unlike a lot of other people.” He said to her and couldn’t help but laugh more at her.

“I’m happy you’ve come to terms with your crimes.”

“And you’re not special for owning up to that. I’m hear because I’m crazy. There, did it too.”

“I’d sleep on the floor. There’s no way you’d win.”

“I would totally win.”

“Eh, maybe you changed your mind.” Eli smiled, looking down at the cutlery on the table. Maybe it wasn’t very good, but surely they’d get sharper stuff for Christmas… or not. “See how it goes. I believe in you.”

“Well I can promise that if I have changed my mind I won’t pick you to be my victim because you believe in me. Unless you’re into that.”
