~~Throughout my twenty-five years of existence, I've had countless vivid dreams, many of which manifest some seriously twisted, surreal landscapes, characters, and creatures. I didn't even know dream journaling was a thing until a couple years ago when I ran across several databases online. Now I'm not one who really subscribes to the idea that dreams have any mystical qualities whatsoever, but I consider what my brain pieces together while I sleep to be one of the most raw forms of creativity I can muster. So I thought that making a detailed illustrated bestiary of dream creatures was a worthwhile endeavor.~~ (11-20-17) 

One of a colony of wingless dragons that lived on the pockmarked surface of a planetoid hurtling aimlessly through deep space. They spent most of their time lounging on the edges of craters or on top of plateaus, only rousing themselves to spit bubbles of fire at anyone who wandered too close and I mean you had to get REALLY close. They were so lazy they didn't even concern themselves with the lack of breathable atmosphere but I suppose with a view like that, why worry about the little things y'know?   An attempt at coloring was made. Sketched with mechanical pencil. Colored and background added in Photoshop CS5/Wacom Bamboo tablet.

A more realistic version of a Powerwild Heartless gallivanting off to ruin some poor sap’s day. More of a preliminary sketch because I thought of a better design the second I published this but here you go. 

Based on terrestrial Old-World monkeys, namely baboons because those  things are terrifying enough on their own, nevermind a mouthful of black fangs and intent to tear your heart out Temple of Doom-style . 

Can’t accurately gauge my excitement for KH III yet, considering how many prequels and console changes it has required to explain the plot, but at the same time I get to lay waste to legions with Disney rides so I mean...I dunno yet. We’ll see.

Skutler (01/13/15) Part of an entourage of mutated creatures encountered carrying a treasure chest into a wooded area, Skutler noticed me peeking over the bushes I was hiding in and charged over to confront me. The scream he made was disturbingly reminiscent of that made by The Thing (1982), a vain attempt to scare me and the pair of dream-generated companions away from their operation. For some reason I put a lot of focus on the way his face split and the double rows of fangs he displayed but after he had said his piece I told him to buzz off, which he complied to rather dejectedly. A detail I omitted for the sake of anatomical reference was the unbuttoned plaid shirt he had draped on like the 90's rocker I guess he thought he was. He's name Skutler because he scuttles, geddit?? ...I'll show myself out.

Dream Creature #133: Vostok The Vostok was a predator plaguing the tribe of Tapejari, using the cover of darkness to prey on the tribe's children. By unknown circumstances, I was contracted to dispose of it, spending most of the dream trudging through the forest to track it down. Upon being ambushed, I took it down by slamming a giant meathook into its face.

Dream Creature #132: Tapejari   The Tapejari were a tribe of intelligent creatures resembling terrestrial pterosaurs with two extra pairs of limbs used for grasping. The tribe was led by a dominant male, whose crest was much larger and more colorful than that of the one pictured here. In the dream they were hunter-gatherers who foraged in a tropical forest. The rainforest hosted several extremely dangerous creatures, including one (who will be pictured as Dream Creature #133: The Vostok) who preyed on the Tapejari's children. According to dream narrative, this drove them to overcome their distrust of outsiders and request my help in disposing of the aforementioned predator.

Like two and a half peas in a pod. Or two peas spliced together and a third pea in a pod. Or a baby carrot and a second baby carrot with another baby carrot growing inside it - in a bag at the organic section of Whole Foods. You get the idea. Thanks, dahlin’!

Dream Creature #1: Blisterback I encountered this creature in a dream during my childhood (I can't remember the exact date), during which I and several dream-generated comrades were forced to fight him in an indoor arena. The only thing that interrupted his uniform electric-blue body color was his beady yellow eyes, light blue horns, and amber blisters erupting from his back. Being around the size of a wild boar, he used his size and muscular build to trample combatants. I made the mistake of piercing one of the blisters, releasing a caustic fluid that smelled strongly of garlic and produced a mind-numbing effect when the fumes were inhaled. After a lengthy fight, I leaped onto a ledge and pulled a switch that electrified the floor, killing the Blisterback instantly before the dream ended.

"Summery: Mushrew spend most of their time living and feeding underground. They come up to the surface for water. They rely on ther mushroom like tail to blend into the leaf litter of the forest floor while searching for food such as insects and plant matter. If threatened suddenly; Mushrew release toxic spores/ liquid that could poison and kill its foe. Mushrew couples mate for life. The mother will give birth to a litter of 8-10 offspring and both parents will look after the youngsters until they are 1-2 years of age. History: Mushrew have been long since loathed and in some cases; feared for their fact that their poison in large dosages could be harmful. But one researcher found out that people suffering Fits/Epilepsy amongst other conditions that had no cure; The Mushrew's toxins in small and steady doses; worked as therapy. The condition of these people got better the more they were exposed given the doses stayed the same. They are known as Magic Mushrews. sufferers who are still undergoing treatment have obtained the right to own the species as pets and companions"

Dream Creature #61: The Harpy Encountered at the end of a dream (April 27, 2014). The Harpy acted as the guardian of a graveyard, perching atop the ruins of a mausoleum. In spite of her appearance, she had a wise, gentle demeanor, but had to be approached with caution. Her most unique feature was the underside of her wings: brilliant white and sporting markings similar to an inkblot/Rorschach. The markings continuously shifted in appearance and would entrance anyone unfortunate enough to see them, making the victims easy prey to snatch up into her talons. During the dream, she made short work of an intruder to the graveyard before turning to me. In her anger, she opened her wings wide to display the anomolous undersides. The last thing I remember seeing is the image of the inkblot being burned into my mind before she leapt from the mausoleum and dove toward me with her talons outstretched.... Ees a grumpy old birb. I feel like she should have a name. Wings and overall body shape modeled after a Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus)

A fully aquatic cetacean-esque creature evolved from Procellariiformes like the albatross/shearwater/petrel. Much like their airborne relatives, they propel themselves through the water with a pair of long pectoral flippers, using their fused pair of hind legs as a rudder. Most species feed on small fish, engulfing entire shoals into their gaping mouths. However, a few belonging to the Xiphos genus use their sharp, segmented beaks to subdue or shear chunks of flesh from larger animals. The tube-shaped nostrils characteristic of Procellariiformes have evolved to be situated closer to the top of the head, making it easier for the animals to breathe at the water's surface. Due to their inability to lay their eggs on dry land,  Procellacetacea have become ovoviviparous.
