this isn't actually a problem I've seen with any posts (rightfully) complaining about fandom misogyny, but it is a problem I keep seeing in the notes of those posts, which has been like... people being really quick to blame gay men and/or trans men as uniquely responsible for fandom misogyny, when, like. to be clear, being a queer man definitely doesn't make you immune to misogyny, or absolve you of perpetuating it, but there's also no gender or orientation that makes you immune to misogyny, or absolved of being misogynistic? because regardless of identity, we were all raised in a misogynistic culture, and I thought that fairly accepted? like, I'm a woman with no attraction to men whatsoever, but when I was in high school, my favorite characters were all men and I obviously cared about female characters way less — until I matured and I noticed that, and decided that I wanted to consciously care more about female characters, because I didn't want to just accept the biases I'd been taught in childhood and adolescence. so stop me if this sounds like a stretch, but I think maybe systemic misogyny is responsible for fandom misogyny, rather than the blame lying with any particular subgroup of queer people — which will automatically include both some people who've unlearned misogyny and some people who haven't. like pretty much any other queer subgroup

some trans women who've had surgery (or even just suppress their natural production very easily) need to supplement testosterone for their health by the way so like. the assumption that transfem-majority DIY groups just don't care about testosterone is pretty ill-informed.
When I've tried to make sense of how the "men's rights movement" operates, a tendency I've noticed is that the construction of "misandry" as a systemic force follows a very simple recipe:
Identify a systemic issue that applies to the whole population, such as rising cost of living, increasing alienation, car-dependent infrastructure
Frame it as a Man Problem, which only men have, relying on your target audience being so disconnected from women that they'll actually believe it, or just be willing to pretend to because it works to their advantage.
Blame feminism/women's rights for this, constructing a zero-sum game where the Man Problems are actually the fault of women having gotten too much.
I'm seeing a lot of concerning parallels in the trans version of this! For example, blaming the trans women doing DIY advocacy for the problems with DIYing a medication that those same trans women also need access to!
