My least favorite new politically correct term is "unhoused." Like you can just tell it was created to make liberals feel less icky when talking about homeless people.
I was homeless. I was homeless as a child and as an adult. That shit sucks believe it or not.
The uncertainty. The ever-present grimy feeling from lack of access to running water. Having nothing to your name. The shame you feel is asking your fellow man for the bare minimum. Just so much shame, man.
"Unhoused" is so clinical. A technical term. Sure, its not incorrect, but it doesn't properly convey the emotional and psychological impact homelessness has on you.
You say "house", I think of a structure.
You say "home", I think of stability.
As someone who was also homeless as a child, you put my discomfort with this term into words perfectly. I once had to argue with someone who outright refused to use the term homeless because she worked with homeless people, even when I— an actual homeless person— was telling her that it felt like she was sanitising what I actually went through.
I wasn’t just without a house, I was fundamentally living on the outskirts of society without an ounce of stability, and sometimes not even shelter can relieve that. Sometimes I wasn’t unhoused, but I was still homeless.
do you think two pennies is still enough for the ferryman or has inflation driven up the fare
if he makes me use an app I am simply not crossing the river Styx.
I admire you, Harry. You changed. Uh, okay. Well, hey, not to, uh, deny a compliment, which I appreciate but from what I'm told, so did you. Yeah, but it didn't start out that way. You know, first I was with the others because it let me do different kinds of crimes. Stuff I'd never done before. It challenged me and I wasn't really being challenged back then. It was only later, after being together we decided to change together. See, I changed with people. And it felt good because we were helping each other change.
Beth Riesgraf as Parker in season 3 of Leverage: Redemption (2021-present) created by John Rogers and Chris Downey
i think it's beautiful that cats eat you if you die in your apartment and nobody finds you for a while. i don't know why it's used as anti-kitty cat propaganda as if eating you means they don't love u. if i died and no one found me for a while i would want my kitty cat to eat me bc i love her so much and i don't want her to starve. it's not her fault i'm too dead to give her her fancy feasts. she's going thru something scary ok. i don't know a single cat owner who doesn't feel the same way
John Rogers, proving himself once again to be an entire vibe.
John Rogers is the creator of two of my favorite things:
Leverage and Leverage: Redemption, show(s) about criminals who team up to punish billionaires and corporations who take advantage of regular people in ways that the law won't punish. It's a great heist show, it's hilarious, it's satisfying in a vengeance sort of way, it's deeply nerdy in sometimes subtle ways (criminals using aliases from Doctor Who, anyone?), and seeing the characters and relationships develop is really nice, too.
The following quote: "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
John Rogers is one third of my Rogers philosophy.
Mr Rogers: Be kind
Steve Rogers: Do the right thing
John Rogers: Billionaires steal more than all the street crime combined.
zero patience for "irreversible damage" rhetoric because like... parents are allowed to do all kinds of other irreversible body modification to their kids and nobody gives a fuck. you can pierce your kid's ears, you can sign them up for a sport that will injure them for life, you can provide or withhold medical care like vaccines according to whatever whims you like. i've mentioned this before but my mom forced me to get laser hair removal done on my legs when i was a teenager because my body wasn't mine, the way i chose to upkeep it was a reflection on her. "irreversible damage" is very much part and parcel of the broader belief that parents own their children's bodies.
diet talk is so inexpressibly nonsensical the instant you know anything about "the human body" or "nutrition" or if you think about it for three seconds
"this is a great, low-calorie meal for meal prep!"
okay how do I explain this to you. "calories" is the part of food that makes it food. you actually need calories to stay alive. so "low-calorie" is the opposite of a selling point. kind of makes it sound like I'm going to be putting in a lot of time and effort just to not be nourished
"I then immediately ruined the nutrition of the broccoli by pouring cheese all over it, but, hey, I tried"
okay hang on tight because this is a tough one. I'm going to try to explain the concept of "addition" to you. so the broccoli has a certain amount of calories, vitamins, and other nutrients in it, right? and the cheese has a certain amount of calories, vitamins, and other nutrients in it. and when you add the cheese to the broccoli, well... the nutrition of the resulting food can be found by adding the contents of both of its components to each other. I hope this helps
People who actually know about nutrition tell you to eat cheese and butter with your vegetables, because each has unique vitamins and minerals and other nutrients that your body struggles or straight up cannot absorb without something the other has. When you eat only raw veg because it's "healthy," you're missing out on half its nutritive value because some of those nutrients require additional lipids or specific vitamins like vitamin A or D or E to be readily absorbed by your digestive tract and again to be used in different parts of your body. Dieting makes it so instead of just dumping out all your pieces in a pile and following the instructions you can build your flatpack shelf, it's like placing each component in a different place in your house, and the shelf never gets built because you got tired of waking every time you needed something, so there it sits until one day you decide it's garbage and throw it out. A little butter or olive oil and a quick stir fry turns your vegetables from expensive fiber supplements to bioavaliable nutrients. Have your berries with some cream or full-fat yogurt: it's literally healthier and more complete nutrition. Put plenty of dressing on your salad. Have a steak: you need the iron. Stop starving yourself in the name of health because that's not how that works.
I hope there’s an afterlife so that whoever made this pot 2,000 years ago can brag that their cookware is so good it’s still usable literally millennia later. Something about this object being lost for centuries and then rediscovered, and being put (successfully) to its original purpose again is so pleasing to me.
Some Uzbek digging a canal: “Oh fuck yes a free pot. This rules.”
I think it’s kind of beautiful that this pot just got used as an ordinary pot. Like imagine you’re a smith and you make a pot so good that people are using it 2000 years later. You’d be proud, right?
"gender is a social construct": fairly easy for leftists to understand
"race is a social construct": a bit harder to swallow for some but still reasonable
"mental illness is a social construct": this one gets you hate mail in your inbox

If Neil Gaiman shows his face on tumblr again we all have an obligation to bully him out of here with rocks
And I’m sorry if this is how you had to find out he’s on an “apology” tour (denying everything) and promoting a new book that we are all going to very loudly ignore
make amends to your victims and fix your heart
Tl;dr how you can personally make Neil Gaiman lose money (and not be a jerk to others.)
I see a lot of folks upset that NG will financially benefit from residuals and other compensation surrounding his involvement in the adaptation of Sandman and Good Omens (and he will.) But the answer isn’t “rage at the fans who are so emotionally attached to their blorbos because they grieve differently, and then somehow NG will be financially punished.” That’s lower-class/middle-class thinking. NG is too rich and financially diversified to really be hurt by little boycott or a couple of show cancellations (though said cancellations can cause life-changing poverty to the little guys who signed contracts and turned down other opportunities before all of this came out. Boy does NG love women in poverty 🤮)
So if you want to substantially reduce the wealth of someone at NG’s financial level—you need to do it with professional services fees.
Details below the cut:
So we're all in agreement that if Neil Gaiman the serial rapist ever tries to come back to tumblr, we are all morally obligated to bully him off the platform, right?
It’s really that simple.
Withhold time/resources from organizations building an anti-human future
its so hard to take fatphobes seriously when you realize they're living in a fullfledged delusion. Like you could look at a thin person and i buying our groceries one after the other and see them buying nothing but carbs and snacks and soda and frozen processed foods and me buying nothing but locally sourced meats and whole vegetables and water and maintain that i must live a less healthy lifestyle bc of my weight. You can watch me and a thin person walk up the same hill and see them losing their breath and needing to take breaks and see me make it to the top without breaking a sweat and maintain that i must live a less healthy lifestyle bc of my weight. You can watch a thin person eat an entire bucket of fried chicken in one sitting and have nothing to say and then see a fat person eat nothing but salads for a week and tell them "hey you know salad isn't as healthy as you think it is i bet that dressing is full of fats and croutons are just carbs i bet that salad is mostly croutons and disgusting fatty dressing this is why you aren't losing weight". You have to completely divorce yourself from reality to maintain your worldview and its pathetic. 99% of the thin people i know dont go to a gym regularly and dont worry about eating healthily at all. Im simply not going to live in your fantasy world where thin people are allowed to be thin because of their genetics but fat people can never ever be fat because of their genetics and every choice they make is a moral failing.
No matter how little notes something i post about fat liberation gets some volatile fatphobe always manages to find it and say the stupidest least science informed bullshit ive ever heard in my life, its a true show of dedication from them even i don't think about fat people this much
