New Constitution
The Residents’ Club Committee at Connaught Hall looks after the bar and most of our leisure facilities and social events. Until now, it’s been run according to a quite old-fashioned Constitution. Over the summer, we’ve modernised the Constitution but we need Connaught Hall residents to approve the new Constitution before it can take effect.
So, on Monday 25th September, there will be a brief meeting in the dining hall after dinner where we will ask you to vote. The question will be very simple:
“Do you agree that we should adopt the new Constitution?”

Overall, the changes are designed to make things more modern and more flexible, and to make the Constitution a much shorter document that’s easier to read and understand.
The main changes are:
The Residents’ Club is renamed the “Connaught Hall Association”.
The Resident’s Club Committee is renamed the “Association Management Committee” (AMC for short).
The size of the Committee is no longer fixed at five elected students - it will be flexible, but we intend to start with seven elected students.
The titles of the elected students will no longer be fixed, so we can create more flexible and imaginative roles within the Committee.
Many rules have been removed from the Constitution. Instead, it allows for the AMC to make regulations for things like elections. the conduct of meetings, and the management of the bar. This should make things more flexible and able to adapt to new situations and circumstances.
