Charlus raised his shoulders in a quick shrug, he wasnât sure either, he had always assumed that certain designated areas were protected from specific kind of spells, but he was also well aware that his fellow students were often more than capable to work their way around such limitations and obstacles, magical and not. âIt depends on the secret, obviously, but yeahâŠâ He pointed out, but then he nodded in agreement, they had to be careful and some things needed to stay secret anyway. âI hope you never end up in the Owl.â He had no reason to wish anyone, especially people he liked, to be targeted by the Midnight Owl author. He smiled and then, with a joking note in his voice and a soft pink hue on his cheeks, he asked Connor. âHow scandalous are you?â
âIt does, but for the most part they only seem to report secrets that will do harm to the people involved.â Otherwise, it probably wasnât fun enough for whoever was involved. Once upon a time it had seemed to be mostly who had made out with who which was fairly tame and not overly detrimental unless it was a secret relationship. âI hope you donât end up there again, and Iâll try not to end up there either,â he said hoping he really could stay out of there. He couldnât help but chuckle at Charlusâ next question noticing his pink cheeks reminded him of someone else. âWell, Iâd say Iâm quite scandalous,â he grinned throwing him a wink. Really he was in the same boat as Charlus had been, he just prayed it would end differently for him.Â

In his heart, he knows that heâs offering Connor a certain level of trust by allowing him to confide in his best friend which is nothing in comparison to forcing the Gryffindor to be in this secret. It seems fair to do so. Curse this logical brain of his that seems to be working four steps ahead of the moment, looking at different outcomes of potential situations as if this were a big game of chess. To what lengths would Connor be willing to go to just so they can have a sliver of happiness? Itâs apparent that he is the type of guy that wants to be able to show his feelings publicly no matter who is watching, and maybe one day Hugo will be comfortable enough to do so. âNo, of course not, Connor. If it does come out then the media would spin it as some scandal and it could tarnish my reputation when it shouldnât. Being the first might put me in the history books.â Hugo murmurs the last bit to try and come up with a decision, even though he still has years before he has to make the final one. With a shake of his head he pushes out these thoughts for a momentâs time to explain himself. âThere are tons of wizards and witches that have draconian views, and having a gay minister is definitely not on the top of their list. I just donât want anything to hinder my dream.â Pushing through the negativity starting to build up in his head, Hugo reaches out to hold Connorâs hands but first looking up at him to make sure it was okay to do so. âIâm sorry. This whole âa guy interested in meâ thing is the first and I donât want to ruin it by listening to my fears instead ofââ There go his cheeks starting to do their signature changing of hues, and the boy only begins to chuckle slightly to cover up how nervous Connor makes him feel. ââwell what feels right. Youâre undeniably the hottest guy in school and Iâm just honored by the simple fact that you have eyes on me.â
Connor felt like it was a good sign that Hugo was allowing him to tell anyone at all, it showed trust which was good, and frankly necessary if you were to have any success in a relationship. People always seemed to think secret relationships were âhotâ he couldnât fathom why though and they usually got out after awhile, one slip of affection or someone seeing was all it took. What would Hugo do if it got out? The whole thing made his skin itch as if he were wearing a particularly uncomfortable jumper one that was far too small. He hadnât ever been in the closet really, but it appeared thatâs where he would be now and he could almost feel the tight space he was confined to close around him. It scared him a bit, to say the least, having to be so careful every second he had a feeling Hugo would be worth it, though. âHow would they make it a scandal?â he asked, curious what he meant. âBut It would put you in the history books,â he agreed his voice subdued. This whole conversation was kind of depressing to him, it laid out a future in which their relationship would always be hidden. He could do it for awhile, but could he do it forever? âWell, I donât want to stand in the way of it,â he said quietly biting at his lower lip. A smile forms on his lips as Hugo takes his hand and he laces his fingers through the others feeling a little better now that he was touching him. âAnd what feels right?â he murmured leaning a little closer. âHottest guy in the school, huh?â he chuckled, using his other hand to stroke the blush on Hugoâs cheeks. âWell, I donât know about that, I think Iâd have to disagree and give it to a certain redhead, but Iâm glad you think so.â Yes, he definitely had his eyes all over Hugo whenever he saw him in the halls and right now.
Anna pouted up at Connor, her little nose scrunching up at his comment. âI think youâre just bitter that you arenât as cute as me. Makes sense, seeing as your giant body can hold much more bitterness than my petite form,â she teased, relishing in the playful back and forth between the pair. It was always so easy with her friend. âWho says I canât pursue whatever good I want?â she toyed, trying to be serious before a bright, cheeky grin split onto her face. âKidding.â And she was⊠kind of. There were certain friends with whom, under the right conditions, she could see herself messing around with. As long as it didnât mess with the friendship itself, she was probably down for it. âWe can co-write a letter ourselves, if we really wanted to show our appreciation.â She grinned brightly as he teased her, nudging him back before realizing the time. âShit,â she groaned, her head falling onto his arm for a second. âBinns really is going to kill me. Iâm late.â
âI think youâve got that backwards, you reek of bitterness that you canât be as charming as me. It can also hold a lot more cute and charm,â he teased her with a grin a laugh soon following. He enjoyed being tall as he was, he liked having to lean down to kiss the one he was with or the way their smaller form seemed to fit into his. It worked out that his current interest was still a bit smaller than him. âWell if you were Iâd have to tell you, you were doing a bloody awful job, I like compliments when being wooed not insults,â he chuckled, nudging her lightly. There was sometimes that fine line that seemed to appear between them. If they had enough to drink things might have turned down that road in the past. Now that he was with someone he was always faithful so the point was moot. âBetter hurry, with those short legs youâll have to flat out run to make it.â
âDo you think?â Werenât those rooms shielded against certain kind of prying spells? They should have, as well as other private areas of the castle. Charlus grimaced slightly, looking around for a few moments before returning his gaze to Connor. âPeople should be more careful, always and anyway.â He shrugged, there were ways to protect themselves against such intrusive charms. âIt surely doesnât help that any student has almost free access to every dorm.â
âSeems possible, but then again I donât really remember much of âHogwarts a Historyâ so I donât know what can and canât be done,â he shrugged. He might have to take a look at it again, see if there was any mention of what enchantments could be performed within the walls of the castle or certain areas. âThey should, with things that need to stay secret anyway,â he agreed. He wasnât really the best at that himself, but he had to learn now that he was involved with Hugo. It would hurt him if their relationship ever got out, even if it hurt him that it couldnât. âNo, that makes things more difficult certainly, since they could easily come and go through anyone to plant a spell.â
âIf you play it right, it does. âDepends on how committed you are to not be in a relationshipâ He shrugged, shaking his head. âOr you could just cut âem off before it gets anywhere.â That was always the safer route. While Colin mightâve questioned a relationship in any other situation, he already felt as if he was holding the world up on his shoulders. The last thing he needed was another person to worry about. âBoth.â He grinned at the thought of his younger sister. âItâs what siblings do, I suppose. Iâd probably do the same thing, if I were her.âÂ
âI have a feeling that would all go terribly wrong for me. Probably get a stage five clinger situation,â he laughed. It would certainly be his luck for that to happen. âTrue, but you never know how quickly some people can get attached. So, one night stands seem safest if you donât want a relationship.â The problem was, he wanted one, he had the person he wanted, just no one else was allowed to know. It killed him that he couldnât say he had someone, or even get to close to Hugo in public. âI donât have any siblings so I am out of the loop as far as all that goes. They seem like more trouble than theyâre worth sometimes,â he grinned.
She chuckled. âBut Iâm guessing you think itâs worth it?â Not that she hadnât had her share of detentions, but she was trying to fly under the radar now.
âYou donât know everything! Iâve just been cleaning up my act this year, but that doesnât mean I completely lost my charm,â Nova said with a mock-glare. âI know. But I guess theyâre just going for whatever âsellsâ.â She glanced over at him as he spoke and rolled her eyes. âConnor, thatâs your job. Iâm a prefect. Itâs literally my job to not corrupt them.â Nova grinned. âI know the whole prefect thing isnât exactly glamorous, but they gave it to me and Iâd feel pretty shitty if I just blew it off.â She frowned as she heard him sigh and put her hand on his forearm. âHey, thatâs not true. I mean, we all mess up, but itâs not as if you ruin anything.â
âFor the most part, really depends on what Iâve done and what kind of detention Iâm given. Sometimes I think the boring ones are more torture than the others, makes the time go by slower.â It was probably why that particular one was still used.
âMaybe not, but I think Iâm pretty well versed in flirting and charm,â he teased. âSee thatâs why being a prefect is so dull, you cleaned up your act and have lost some of your abilities,â he grinned seeing her glare. âIâm not sure how well thatâs selling, seems like people were pretty angry about that one,â he shook his head slightly before giving her a drawn out sigh. âSee, I keep thinking weâre on the same side, but youâve joined the dark side and can longer have any fun. Guess Iâll just have to recruit the others for corruption,â he smirked. âI suppose, still kind of blows though.â Not that he would ever be offered a prefect position, but heâd have no trouble turning it down. âI seem to mess up more than most...things just get out of hand so easily,â he said looking at her speculatively, Hugo had given him the go-ahead to tell one person, in the middle of the common room wasnât the place for that conversation, though. âI can tell you a little more about the whole thing, just not here.â
âAlright, Iâll think about it,â Lily replied with a smile, before pointing over to a particularly tall tree that sheâd been sketching, âThat one. I liked the way the sunlight was reflecting behind it.â
âI think Iâd be a rather good model, even as a stick figure if thatâs all you can turn out,â he teased following her eyes to what she had been drawing. âYes, that is quite nice, and I suppose the bark has interesting textures to draw,â he said venturing a guess since he was a poor artist himself.
It Seems
Kingsley shook his head, âI know there are plenty of people in the D.A. as well as plenty on the other side. Itâs just senseless violence.â he shrugged, âSo what can even be done?â
âSo you donât agree with either side? It is, but the only way to stop permanent violence is to fight back.â War was always senseless violence but the option of doing nothing didnât solve things either. âNothing except more fighting, that seems to be the way it always goes.â
