Connor was busy getting a kitten out of its kennel so he could hold it for a while and keep it entertained, when a voice so pretty asked if they had any puppies left made him turn slowly as his heart began to pound. He was then standing there agape as he struggled for words when he saw the beautiful woman who had halted his brain less than a week ago on Main Street. Realizing he was staring, he shook his head to clear it and his mouth pulled shut before he swallowed thickly to get his senses back.
“We have puppies and they all have multiple applications,” Connor offered in his best attempt not to go into a speech about her eyes, which was not needed. “But the kittens haven’t been getting anything today. Are you allergic to cats? Because you would have a better shot at one of these darlings than the pups, I think.” The kitten squirmed in his hold and tried to climb his chest, but Connor just kept looking at the woman as his hands moved to catch up with the runaway tabby. “I’m Connor,” he finally said and felt dumb for it. “If you want to meet the puppies we can do that.”

Connor was actually a decent a dancer, so he’d shown up at the Harbor dance ready to dance with as many people as he could. When he finished a dance with one person, he clapped and gave them a hug before watching them go. He sighed and looked around for another dance partner when he spotted his boss’s wife.
“Hey, Belle!” Connor said over the din as he approached. “Hey, I’m Connor, we met at the staff Halloween party last year? I was Superman, if you can believe that!” He chuckled and held his arm up to her like a proper gentleman. “You mid joining me in a dance?”

Connor was taking a break from the Humane Society booth and walking down to get some food so that when he returned, Sam could do the same. There were a couple other booths he wanted stop at though and along the way he came across the Kissing Booth and saw Brooke looking gorgeous which made his stomach swoop. Before he realized what he was doing he waved to her and approached, seeing two other women and fidgeting guy.
“Hey! I didn’t know you were doing the Kissing Booth!” Connor said before he blushed lightly realizing he needed to pay for a kiss from someone now. “Um, how much does it cost for a kiss? Does anyone actually want to give me a kiss?” he asked with a chuckle and smile.

Rain was pouring down, which wasn’t out of character for Maine, especially with a town on the water. Connor had needed to stop by the bank to take care of something before work and he’d need to haggle with the principal to leave on his planning hour. When he stepped out of the bank he put up his umbrella and held the door for someone and shielded them with his umbrella as they got out theirs. He nodded and smiled at their thanks as he moved away from the building and went to find his car. He’d parked on the street because the sky had been cloudy but not raining when he’d gone into the bank. There was no parking on this side of the street, though, so he was headed up to the stoplight to cross at the crosswalk when he saw her.
Piles of gorgeous red hair on were on the woman’s head and her blue eyes shone bright despite the dreary day. Her lips were plump and her eyelashes batted she waited underneath her own umbrella. She had on a simple black dress and black heels and she seemed lost in another world as she waited. The slope of her neck looking so beautiful with the modest cut of the top of her dress.
Connor didn’t realize he’d stopped walking until someone else’s umbrella bumped his and he apologized before walking again, but not quick enough to catch up with the beautiful woman as she crossed the street with a walk signal. The way she moved caught him off guard because for all the innocence she exuded she was clearly a confident person with a bit of stomp in her step. By the time Connor got to the crosswalk the signal had changed and he sighed as he watched her back depart down the street.
“Shucks,” he said under his breath, just in time for a truck to go past and its tires dipped into the water draining around the curb that Connor stood on. A rip of water went up before Connor could duck and he was suddenly soaked and cold. He shook himself off and backed up. The woman was gone and he looked like a drowned cat. What a wonderful day.
Why is having strings a problem?
Because her comfort means more to me than my need for connection.
If you could have one night with anyone you know, no strings attached who would it be?
I want strings. That's the problem.

Brooklyn loved when he blushed. She frowned shaking out her thoughts and working on his back. “I swear you work way too hard. You are so stiff back here.” She pushed hard on a knot and smirked at his words. “Was it Cal because I swear he does things like that.” She moved slightly lower, using all of the things she learned to do to massage others, it was a skill not many knew she had. At his question she laughed. “I could ask you the same question, when was the last time you had a home cooked meal…that wasn’t prepared by me?”
The massage made Connor’s eyes roll up and he slumped forward to rest his hands on the stool and expose more of his lower back to Brooke without his dress shirt climbing to where he showed skin. “Yes,” he said but it came out more of a indulgent and he dropped his head to clear his throat. When he came back up, his eyes were closed and he was grinning. “Do you remember when he tried to skateboard through your wing and tackled poor Mrs. Hughey?” Connor chuckled and shook his head. Cal and Mrs. Hughey, the history teacher at the time, had both been so embarrassed. “They don’t grow as quickly as it seems,” Connor noted. When Brooke countered his question with one of her own, Connor pulled up straight on the stool and grinned. “I’ll have you know, I’ve started some cooking classes online,” he proudly said and then slowly turned to look at her. “You deserve to live a little sometimes.”

Brooke hated when he smiled at her, it always made her stomach flutter just a bit. She walked closer to him and beamed. “Nope, it was a gift from me to the kids and I know you probably haven’t eaten so I brought you a treat.” She set the plate down and shook her head as she notice him sigh. “Sit down I got something for you.” She moved behind him and had him sit back on the stool. She let her hands run down his back and began to massage his lower back. It was something she often did just because he was too stubborn to take full care of himself. “My dad was, well it was okay. The kids are ready for summer vacation thats for sure. What about you?”
Connor became sheepish when she called him out for not having dinner. “I’m finishing this stack and then picking up something from Mariner's,” he explained as he met her gaze and felt her smile’s warmth that he finally smiled and nodded as she offered to help his back without actually saying it. He just knew. Sitting back down on the stool, he straightened himself up from the hunch he’d been leaning into as he graded papers. “Even more ready now that they have cup-,” a grunt escaped Connor as Brooke hit the spot that was giving him trouble, “-cakes. Mmm. Had a student get diluted acid on his hand and-,” his breath hitched and he straightened up again, “-he was so delighted at the colors his skin was changing and disappointed when I made him wash it off completely.” He hummed softly in delight and just let her work his back for a time before he added, “When was the last time you ate anywhere but home, hmm?” He wasn’t asking her on a date. They were coworkers and too good of friends for that.
F2F || Brooklyn and Connor
Brooklyn made her way to Connor’s classroom, walking down the empty hallway. She knew he was still at the school and sitting in his classroom, doing some kind of work. He was one of the hardest workers she knew and that was saying a lot. When she first got to the school he was the first person she met and besides wondering when the hell science teachers started looking like him, she noticed how sweet he was. Since that day he was the closest person to her besides her family. “Knock Knock.” She said walking into his classroom and seeing Conner sitting there the way he always was. “I brought something for you.”
Connor usually stayed late to keep the chemistry lab under control and to grade the work the students had done with their frogs, none of which he could do from the comfort of home. There were papers to grade, too, but he liked the silence of the school after the students and most of the other teachers were gone. He was grading chemistry lab work when a familiar voice entered his classroom and his stomach did its little swoop before he looked up with wondering eyebrows. Connor smiled when he saw Brooke standing there with a little plate and a cupcake.
“Did I miss another birthday?” Connor asked with a hint of disappointment though he was smiling at her. He capped his pen and laid it down on the enormous table of science equipment that he called his desk. He slowly stood up off his stool and his back immediately complained. “Long day,” he commented with a puff of a sigh. “How was yours?”
