Here I go: National Novel Writing Month
It's National Novel Writing Month! Come check out my progress as I feverishly type my way to 50,000 words in a month. Will I succeed? Only this very short amount of time will tell.
After two days, I have over 4,000 words written, which is exciting. I have a lot of travel coming up next week, so I hope that I can keep the momentum going. Lucky for me, I will have a hotel room to my self during that week, so I should get some quality time in.
I have been working on one novel my entire life. In 8th grade, Mr. Beck assigned us a fantasy story for Language Arts and I was inspired. Since then, I have been building this magical world, creating characters, and writing draft and after draft, none of which exceed 25,000 words. This year I decided to take a different approach. Rather than work on my dream project in a hurry, I will write a prequel. The story of the origin of my fantasy land. I thought it would give me some context, but a new novel would take all the emotional attachment out of it. I don't have to worry about this one being good, because no one will ever read it. And, just to shake things up, I wrote an outline. It's making the words trickle out much faster!
Is it great? No. There are hordes of unnecessary adjectives, and too much explanation of things I should show instead of tell about. It takes place in Civil War era New Orleans, a place and time I know very little about. I am constantly asking myself, "Would the culture be this way? Would they drink that? How long would it take to get form New Orleans to the Smokey Mountains?"
So why go through all this trouble just to write something bad, or at best, mediocre?
The motivation for me to write for NaNoWriMo, as it is known, is driven by two things. The first is to prove to myself that I can commit to creative projects done only for me, for my spirit. The second reason is because there is an amazing community, a selection of pep talks and discussion, and a chance to meet other writing enthusiasts.Â
Want to join in, or just check out my progress? Find my NaNoWriMo profile here.

If you're not voting for Bernie Sanders, I just want to know one thing...
âŠwhy?
Bernie Sanders is true lover of humanity.
In two days I can do all those things [BoJack Horseman]
This is my body. It is the only one I have. I can cry and lament the state that it is in or I can love and honor it no matter what it looks like. I can bask in the sun, I can play outside, and I can pity people who fill their minds with hateful thoughts about my shape or size. Then I can encourage others to follow suit.

Dear âSo Deliciousâ,
I happened across your âMint Chipâ Coconut Milk non-dairy frozen dessert while perusing the over-the-counter drug aisle for Zyrtec at Gelsonâs in West Hollywood.
The only reason I really use Zyrtec so much is because I walk my friend Sheenaâs two dogs every day, one being...
