MY KIDSSSSS
September issue of Mothly Afternoon magazine with a collaboration cover between Wandance and Medalist.
“The internet’s a great place for finding out about stuff you’re kind of interested in, but it can’t really help with the things you really want to know. It’s even worse for things you don’t know anything about.”
— Emi Yagi, Diary of a Void
I love how when your a kid The Sound of Music its about a flibbertigibbet, yodeling, a drink with jam and bread, a dad connecting with his children, schnitzel with noodles. And then when your an adult its about ripping Nazi flags, having confidence that spring will come again, "I am not finished yet, Captain!""Oh, yes, you are, Captain!...Fraulein!", their embrace at the end of dancing the Ländler, "If the Nazis take over Austria, I have no doubt, Herr Zeller, that you will be the entire trumpet section" "You flatter me, Captain" "Oh, how clumsy of me - I meant to accuse you",
Every once in a while I like to remind of the combination of sheer hotness, unbelievably fucked up, devoted, repressed, bad assed, respectful, anti-fascism and can sing and dance that makes up the absolute MAN that is Captain Von Trapp as played by Christopher Plummer
Relevant words, still:
Max: What’s going to happen is going to happen. Just make sure it doesn’t happen to you.
Von Trapp: Max, don’t you ever say that again!
Max: You know I have no political convictions. Can I help it if other people do?
Von Trapp: Oh, yes, you can help it. You must help it.
is there ever a better moment in cinema than in the sound of music "reverend mother, i have sinned" "i too, reverend mother"

“A well-chosen bedtime story sets you on the path to the dream you most need to have.”
— Kate Albus, A Place to Hang the Moon
“The first words of a new book are so delicious—like the first taste of a cookie fresh from the oven and not yet properly cooled.”
— Kate Albus, A Place to Hang the Moon
it’s such a minor thing in the finale, but it’s devastating to hear vel and cassian talk about how other rebels claim to have been on aldhani.
andor, really is about quiet sacrifice. luthen and kleya’s achievements are swept under the rug by yavin—he dies to be forgotten, she becomes just another rebel (though i assume she becomes higher ranking later). nobody except kleya is left who knows lonni’s ultimate sacrifice. taramyn and gorn are forgotten after aldhani. nemik’s manifesto probably doesn’t have his name. nobody recognizes the sacrifice of kino—melshi and cassian are the last ones to remember him, and they die on scarif. the ghor are remembered but only as “the ghor”—meanwhile, the dhanis and the ferrixians are forgotten. wilson and bix are the last survivors of ferrix. cassian never gets recognition for saving mon. and cassian and vel are the last ones who were there at the first major rebel attack but they don’t even get recognition at all, with others lying about being there.
and cassian, jyn, chirrut, baze, bodi, melshi, and countless others die on scarif, only to be brushed over as a footnote by the opening crawl of a new hope.
their sacrifices weren’t in vain. without a single one of them the siege wouldn’t have been broken, as per the immortal words of karis nemik, but they weren’t the final thing to break the siege. and that’s just how things are. every single rebel who took the chance to leave yavin on rogue one is cassian andor—they have a story, a sacrifice, a reason for being where we are. but not even we can see their sacrifice.
andor is a story about quiet sacrifice. and it’s so perfect for it.
IM SO OBSESSED WITH ANDOR LGMDNNDMFMGMFM
"I have met all sorts of people over my years at this train station. Some pass through quickly, some stay for a while. Everyone I have ever encountered, no matter how brief, has either taken something or left something behind. Rude people can rip the smile from your face. Kind ones can give it back. I have learned that there is nothing to be gained from stealing other people's happiness. No matter how much you have stolen, it is not something that you can ever use for yourself."
Water Moon, Samantha Sotto Yambao
nemik's manifesto being spread galaxy wide, so well known that it reaches the inner workings of the empire, is so meaningful and impactful in ways i can't explain.
a young boy with a dream for the future, passionate about his hope for a better galaxy, dead before he can see his dreams come to fruition.
and cassian spreads his manifesto, his message, shares it onto the holonet and watches as it inspires people all across the galaxy. waking them up.
cassian andor is a messenger.
The way Andor enhances but also kind of ruins all other Star Wars media by comparison, even Rogue One.
Like, back in 2016 we all wondered “how did Cassian and K2-SO meet? Maybe it was a rollicking adventure full of laughs and hijinks in which they had to quickly reprogram an imperial droid to escape hahaha!”
And the reality is: “this droid nearly killed me and my friend after we both narrowly survived one of the most infamous massacres in the history of the galaxy. We saw dozens of these things tearing people apart on the street. I kept him because I understood the utility of its brutality. We’re on good terms now, but when I look at him I can still see the dead, lying there, eternally wide eyed...”
