Okay so I have Bird Thoughts(TM) the blue and gold I work (for) with loves to just???? Lick you???? like a freak and also will preen your leg hair (again like a freak) so imagine if you will, Ilya meeting Miko and Miko deciding both that she likes him and immediately starts trying to preen his leg hair, much to his utter bafflement and mild horror
GOD combining this with shane coming out getting disrupted by miko going, "SHANE! SHANE! SHANE! SHANE!" until he picks her up, i'm fucking CACKLING imagining them sitting down to talk it out, and ilya is trying SO HARD to be a good, supportive boyfriend.
but also?? they sit down at the table?? and miko climbs down off of shane's shoulder and tap tap taps her way over to ilya on the table?? and starts??? licking his arms and hands???? he doesn't want to be rude here but WHAT is this fucking bird doing??? and then he holds still while she uses him like a jungle gym to climb down??? and okay at least she isn't just licking him anymore?? but then she starts??? preening his leg hair???? and he has to just NOT react????
he's trying SO hard to be supportive and present and make sure shane is okay, but this bird is NOT making it easier. shane is having a stressful day, but ilya is just having a fucking WEIRD day.
GOD shane not realizing where miko is under the table while she's diligently getting ilya's leg hair in order and going to do the supportive shoe tap only to accidentally knock against her, so now there is an ANGERY macaw screeching and attacking his shoe for the audacity of knocking her beautiful self aside when she is so busy getting this household in order
No matter how shitty it might feel in the moment, most of the time when someone comes to you to communicate a boundary or a need or a negative feeling about something you did, it is actually a compliment. They are telling you BECAUSE they care about you and want it to work between you and because they trust you to care to do better. If they didn't care about you, they'd just avoid you. That uncomfortable convo is in fact a declaration of love and trust. Or at least intention of friendship. If they didn't like you, they'd just try to avoid you whenever possible. They wouldn't care to have The Talk (which is often scary and uncomfortable for them also). So try to treat their trust with care, even if it really upsets you to learn that you've accidentally hurt them
I find it very offensive that the more unwell you are, the more things you have to do to maintain your health. Things like following special diets, going to medical appointments, making big and important decisions about what treatments to use. At the same time, the more unwell you are the less energy you have to do all of these extra things. It seems grossly unfair.
Being an adult will have you unironically craving a vegetable
Being an adult will have you unironically sad about a parasite outbreak in fresh vegetables.
the human mind is prone to catastrophizing when left unoccupied. And thatâs why itâs important to always have a little Blorbo to rotate in your head. It acts as a protective charm of sorts to redirect your imagination away from harmful spirals
thoughts without Blorbo: oh my god I was so cringe in seventh grade why did I do that
thoughts with Blorbo: I havenât considered the interactions with bleebus; I must rectify this immediately
Shane flirting w Carter Vaughn really is such a juicy little subplot of the whole show.. he loves a charisma magnet w curly hair and 1 Stanley cup that's his gay kryptonite
Like no he really does light up every time Carter talks to him or squeezes him except for that one time when Carter emotionally shot him w a gun in sochi but even then he still makes sure to sit next to him in the stands (NOT dinosaur Scott hunter) and yk there's even a part of Shane that's like "omg he likes gay peopleđđđđ" and ALSO that part of Shane really was 25 and flirty and thriving in tampa
If Your Scene Feels Lifeless, Someone Is Being Too Polite
Stories stall when everyone behaves. Real tension appears when someone:
⢠asks the wrong question ⢠says something they shouldnât ⢠notices something uncomfortable ⢠refuses to drop the topic ⢠misunderstands something important ⢠interrupts at the worst moment
Conflict doesnât always look like shouting.
Couple more options for tension:
They want something REALLY REALLY REALLY bad, but for some reason they can't ask for it -- or can't have it even if they did ask.
They don't notice something that the audience HAS noticed (like in a horror movie when the monster is sneaking up behind the protagonist, or if someone drinks a glass of unboiled water during a cholera outbreak because they don't know about germ theory)
Takes a risk (or otherwise does something they "shouldn't" do) which the audience has to sit through for a prolongued period of time (e.g. slips away from the party to go into the host's private office and rifle through their papers before the guards catch them)
Loses when they thought they were going to win
this is me just talking out of my own observations and has no research behind it (and is coming from an american pov so your mileage might vary), but i feel like one of the reasons diet culture is SO entrenched and powerful is because christianity is so soaked into mainstream culture as well.
like yeah of COURSE your body is inherently an enemy to master. that's the original sin lazy weakness in you. of course you have to go to the gym and work out until it hurts and you feel sick, especially if you sinned indulged with something of the devil bad for you. you have to repent burn those calories off.
and you have things like gwen shamblin and her weigh down workshop where the link between the two is blatant and disordered eating got a shiny rebrand as spiritual mindfulness, but even out of christian program contexts, i feel like the entire mindset of, "punish and control your body because you can't trust it and pleasure is bad for you and means you're doing something wrong" is SO fucking christian in origin even when the serial numbers have been filed off and replaced with a weight watchers logo.
I've been thinking about Spaghetti the snake for three straight days, and you know how Harris has the little video series with some of the players? BBQing with Bood, Riding with Roz, something with Wyatt and comics... I offer you: Snakes with Shane. He shows off Spaghetti, answers common questions about snake ownership, and corrects common misconceptions. He doesn't want to be the Asian hockey player, and he doesn't want to be the Gay hockey player, but he will be the Snake hockey player.
i love the idea of shane just accepting that the world is going to try and box him into SOMETHING other than just hockey so FUCK IT
SNAKES
if herptology with hollzy means he doesn't get any more questions about gay culture that he cannot answer and doesn't want to learn about, then FINE
listen UP motherfuckers today we're talking about the importance of proper feeding schedules-
this is also me speaking from the outside so possible i'm wrong, but i feel like a significant portion of the snake community is queer people, and i am so delighted by the idea of shane just. stumbling his way into accidental queer community through the avenue of snakes.
i feel like it would be valuable for him being able to process that being gay doesn't have to be his defining trait and that he can embrace it without having to perform anything other than himself, and i also just find it extremely funny to imagine him just. not even knowing at first. it's like three years before he discovers miranda the milk snake has two moms and the triplets (three near-identical cornsnakes) are the triplets because they're owned by a triad that first met on a reptile forum when they discovered other people had a snake that looked like theirs.

Really good article by a chemist on why most ice cream sucks nowâ itâs because itâs not really ice cream.
part of me wants to be like "do people really not know this" and part of me knows full well i only read the labels because i have gut problems and don't want to suffer
anyway i've had my eye on the fat content for years. actual ice cream made with real cream won't trigger my lactose intolerance, because the higher the fat content of dairy, the lower the lactose content. my personal tipping point is around half-and-half so if you make "ice cream" with with skim milk, the enshittification i experience is unfortunately literal

Cultural Insights of Our Own: Lessons From a Newly Decoded Digital Archive
Interplanetary Journal of Cultural Studies Volume 16, Issue 3, Pages 322-340
Abstract
The recently decoded Internet Archive includes the digital artifact called âArchive of Our Ownâ (AO3) from early third millennium Earth. AO3 is unusually well backed up and therefore is presumed to contain some of the most significant -- perhaps even sacred -- texts of the time. In this paper we present our preliminary analysis of AO3 metadata, including new insights about the literature, gender and sexuality, religion, and scientific understanding of this historical era:Â
I. LITERATURE. We describe the cultural centrality of figures such as the Winchesters and Reader. We explore how they featured heavily in every dominant literature genre of the era, including Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, and Oral Sex. Â
II. GENDER AND SEXUALITY. We review the overwhelming evidence that male-male relationships were the most culturally significant sexual and romantic relationships, but we also show that it was a culture with an unusually broad set of sexual and gender roles. In particular, we highlight the unusual tripartite conceptualization of gender as including alpha, beta, and omega roles; we note the apparent prejudice against betas, illustrated in the prevalence of âno beta we die like menâ and similar protest slogans.Â
III. RELIGION. We describe a newly discovered religious taboo: doves were a common sacrificial animal of the time, but they were forbidden from being eaten. Â
IV. SCIENCE. Finally, we present new insight about alternate universes. While previous scholars hypothesized that the scientists of Earth may have developed a correct early theory of the multiverse by the late second millennium, our analysis of AO3 presents evidence to the contrary. As late as the early third millennium, prevailing theories postulated highly specific universes, such as a universe in which everyone is in high school, or a universe contained within a coffee shop. Â
Taken together, these historical insights show that further investigation is warranted into the valuable documents stored within AO3, perhaps even going beyond the metadata to examine the full texts.
WHY IS THIS SO GOOD?!
They put drugs in this show, and this edit is the closest I've come to being able to snort it like cocaine. Excluding binging the entire show in 6 hours after first turning on episode one to see what all the fuss was about.
@yearnalisms requested to bring this beautiful text post by @honeyybrii to gif form! all inspo credit to op of the text post! đ this tag is especially a good sum up of the set:
