Making Art - despite warnings. Thinn Thinn, born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar discovered her love for art and nature from playing in her grandmother’s garden as a child. Dear Everyone, Nyein and I are thrilled to announce our passion project, "Surviving The Sunset," a fundraising art exhibition for Myanmar at the Mill Gallery in Adelaide. Taking place from the 4th to the 15th of April 2023, this group exhibition will feature works from Myanmar artists, Myanmar-Australian artists, and local South Australian artists. "Surviving the Sunset" refers to the current situation in Myanmar, where the Tatmadaw, a military-led junta, overthrew the democratically elected government. The theme underscores the need for the people of Myanmar to overcome the "sunset" of democracy in their country and to restore human rights and peace. Nyein and I will exhibit over twenty of our artworks at the event, with all sales proceeds being donated to the Kind Heart Foundation, the Australian Myanmar Institute for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace Limited (AMIDHRP), and Amnesty International. We invite art enthusiasts from the Adelaide community and beyond to join us for this exhibition, where traditional Myanmar treats, drinks, and snacks will be available for everyone to enjoy. The exhibition opening will take place on April 4th, 2023, starting at 4:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there. We will be posting art for online sale at the following link from the next few days. We appreciate your support. https://www.facebook.com/SurvivingtheSunsetArtGallery (at The Mill) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqDSt3uBVBZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It is wonderful to Myint Zu’s art exhibited @thefitzroyartcollective. I’m sad that she couldn’t be in Australia due to the visa issues. I am very proud of her to have the courage to express through art. This work is currently exhibited for 2 weeks at @thefitzroyartcollective at 66 Cecil St, Fitzroy VIC 3065. The art is available for sale - 75 AUD. Please contact @thefitzroyartcollective or contact Myintzu at [email protected] Artist statement This was created on my 18th birthday at Bayside Paint and Sip at Beaumaris last year. The inspiration is drawn from an image that I saw in Pinterest where a person was lying shallow water covered in lily pads and lotuses. This painting is a self-portrait implying the stress and struggles from my home country’s situation. The water represents the stress that is surrounding me, and I felt that I was drowning in it. Some people around me will undermine the stress that I am facing by describing as “Your stress is not that deep” or "You can’t do anything about it, learn to overcome it". It may seem easy to overcome but is difficult to get up and leaving this pond of stress. I also want to showcase that there is tranquillity and beauty even in some devastating situation. Upon reflection, there are parts of stillness and beauty even in the mist of memories of devastation. Title: ပန်းမစုံသော အတာအိုး ။ “A Ta Oh” with Incomplete arrangement” Medium: Mixed Media on Wood Size: 250x300 mm Size: 500x400 mm Nyein and I have been collaborating for the upcoming exhibition “Surviving the sunset” in Adelaide. We have been painting on wood with watercolour ground and paper. We have created two art works recently reflecting up on recent Australian Visa rejection for our families in Myanmar. Artist statement “A Ta Oh”, a flowerpot arranged during Myanmar New Year (Thingyan Festival) consists of seven different floral arrangements to represent people who were born across seven days of the week. The floral arrangement starts at the beginning of the Thingyan Festival, kept together during the festive season. On New Year’s Day, the old water is poured back to the earth, the arrangement is either kept at home or donated at the temple. This act reminds us of a change in time and season. Changing the old water on New Year’s Day serves as cleansing of the dark memories the past year and encourages to look forward to the New Year with refreshed thoughts. It is something I used to put together with my mum and grandmother every year around Thingyan Festival. Now, Myanmar New Year is approaching We live far away from our families Their visa applications have been rejected multiple times to visit Australia, Due to social political situation in our country Our ”A Ta Oh” sits in our hearts We are grateful for our lives in Australia But it our lives are incomplete It will remain incomplete. #surviving the sunset #mixedmediaart (at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Coi4SqEBelk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
