One thing I will give props for is Karkat’s voice. It fits him perfectly.

Too bad that not many people get to hear it as he speaks very briefly and then gets a little blurb at the end where he complains about only having one line that a lot of people don’t see because they stopped watching before then.

Now that the hype has died down in my brain, I can see a pretty glaring problem in the Homestuck pilot.

That being Dave.

Dave Strider does not smile that much nor is he that animated and excited. He’s a pretty chill guy over all.

Not only that.. he seems much more annoying???

In the original, he didn’t even mock John for his hammer weapon. He just simply says and I quote “hope you like hammers, dude!”.

It’s like the only thing they could come up with when looking at his character was making Dave an annoying douchebag.

The apple juice is pretty spot on at least because they couldn’t include their talk about Little Monsters in there(still reeling over the fact that it’s a real movie that exists).

I noticed the high amount of swearing, but I’m not gonna be a prude about it. It’s Spindleroo, a branch of Spindlehorse. Of course there’s a lot of cursing. Plus there is cursing from the kids in the comic(yes, even John.). I am willing to admit that it is excessive especially for act 1.

Also the JohnDave baiting from Rose was a little unnecessary, but hey, gotta get some people something to care about if they don’t care for plot.

In the original, Rose never brings it up.

The title drop could have been longer too. Not as long as the one in the original, but it could have been longer than what it was.

Just… there’s a lot I ignored at the time, but hey, that’s how it usually happens with my brain. I have to wait until my excitement level drops to really dissect things.

I have to say, watching people who’ve never interacted with Homestuck watch the animated pilot has been a trip lol

I keep forgetting that normal people don’t know what Homestuck is.

The amount of people absolutely confused is amazing and it’s only going to get worse.

I know that there’s gonna be a lot of people who won’t like how quick pace the Homestuck pilot is, but… you gotta realize that Homestuck is really LONG.

Like most the pages of the first act is literally “do this”, “no, do this, dumbass.”, and “and then, this happened for some fucking reason”. It’s a lot of filler that has to be trimmed down and cobbled together. They had to do something the make sure it all fit into the pilot.

The pacing could become a little better in the next episodes especially once we get to the longer acts.

For that reason, I won’t be judging it too harshly just yet.

Okay so Homestuck’s animated pilot is out and so far it’s shaping up to be pretty good!

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

It really does capture that feel of the original comic with a more modern feel. Even though it’s pretty quick.

I especially like how they did the cut ins for everyone while they pester John while he tries to get the beta. Much more entertaining than just reading the pesterchum logs.

I also liked the little nods to the original like John’s original sprite being a shaped hole his dad blew him through and of course “DAD STRIFE!” Lol

Also love this little visual gag. That did make me giggle a little to see.

We got to see all the beta trolls at the end (wonder if the dancestor trolls will show up at some point) and here’s my baby girl Nepeta! She’s so cute! 🥰

I’m loving this so far and can’t wait for more!

I’m sorry but I would block people too if they kept pestering me and telling me I’m a horrible person over my decision about my own character.

She literally clarified things and people got offended because it wasn’t what they wanted.

Dana owes you nothing in the end.

So… Frankie was confirmed cis.

Not disappointing as I never cared either way, but the response to Dana’s post is disappointing.

Why are KOG fans so upset over this? Frankie not being trans is literally not a big deal. You all act as if trans rep in media is a once in a blue moon thing and Dana robbed you of it. Imagine being this entitled.

You can still headcanon her trans. Nobody’s stopping you, but stop calling someone a TERF for simply committing the crime of not making their nontraditional female character trans in some way. It’s not transphobic to have a butch female character.

Get over it and move on please and thank you.

I hate to be that guy, especially since I saw a lot of Trans!Frankie posts that were genuinely fascinating ideas about the character...BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...

Dana said no. Any Trans symbolism/storytelling you saw was unintentional on her part. Sorry about that...At least she's upfront about it. Most creators see the high hopes from fans, say NOTHING, and tease them throughout the series only to give fans scraps instead of what they REALLY want. So...there's that.
