‘That proves that I’m actually in a dream.’
“There was a moment, as a kid, maybe twelve - I was stopped at a stoplight with my folks, and to my left, I heard this music. And I looked over and there was a band playing in the parking lot of a shopping centre. And they were playing [Aerosmith’s] ‘Dream On.’ And that is the very reason I picked up a guitar. So for me to be playing in a band with THE man who’s responsible for me playing the guitar is quite an honour.”

Image courtesy of Warner Bros. The early reviews are out of the Venice Film Festival for Scott Cooper's Black Mass. The all-star gangster saga stars Depp as infamous Boston mobster Whitey Bulger and features the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton, and Dakota Johnson. The film opens from Warner Bros./Time [...]
Although I don’t completely agree with the comeback thing I find this article very refreshing and it’s actually a very good read for all who think that Black Mass is Johnny’s ‘’return’’ to acting.
THANK YOU FORBES. Holy shit colour me shocked that Forbes published this opinion piece because they’re quite deliberately going against every other serious Hollywood paper’s opinion.
Some highlights:
“But don’t pretend that he wasn’t trying and that he wasn’t putting in a real effort to craft a unique (and often fantastical) character just because you/we didn’t like the surrounding movie. And don’t designate one carefully constructed character as “not trying” while designating the other as “real acting.”
The notion that Johnny Depp’s work in Black Mass, be it good or bad and be it in a film that is good or bad, is more legitimate because he is playing a scary gangster is a disingenuous falsehood born of the notion that some films (scary adult dramas about bad men who hurt people) are automatically more legitimate than others (pretty much everything else).”
“And anyone who thinks his work as Tonto in the painfully underrated The Lone Ranger is merely a riff on Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl is either deluding themselves or needs to watch both films back-to-back.”
