I understand why this happens, but I think it is a little disingenuous to try and evaluate a fictional vampires thought process by modern standards when they are like 150+. Like ok yeah I know everyone jokes about it, but Daniel Molloy is the maknae and is probably the most informed about things like trauma by virtue of not being born before Freud was a sperm cell.
