DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO!
Okay, so the last time I got bad vibes from a video essayist I completely brushed them aside, because who am I to judge? I don't know anything concrete so I'm probably wrong about something being amiss. That video essayist was James Somerton.
So yeah. I have nothing concrete. I might be completely wrong about something being amiss. But there are a ton of things that are really fucking suspicious here.
The essayist consistently pronounces Polle's name wrong, even though the right pronunciation isn't only repeated in the game multiple times, but actively shown in the clips being presented in this very video! This would suggest the essayist actually hasn't played the game. At all.
Minor details are just wrong. Jimmy isn't constantly seeing old timey televisions playing propaganda about how great it is to work for a company. That happens ONE TIME. You don't play Curly's segments after finishing Jimmy's. Sure, I get presenting it that way in the video for dramatic effect, but then there would usually be a disclaimer about how things were actually presented in the game. Lastly (and this is a minor thing that would be nothing by itself, but I felt some type of way about it, so idk) he mentions the cryochambers, but neglects to mention that in the end, there is only one cryochamber left. Again, not very important to the story that the video is trying to tell, but if it was included I would be more inclined to believe he actually played the game.
Any interpolation of Joe Rogan in a video not about Joe Rogan is suspect to me. That means he watches Joe Rogan. Otherwise he wouldn't know which part to use in the video. Granted, he is apparently a leftist streamer on Twitch, so maybe he just happened to watch Joe Rogan for his audience in order to do commentary about him and stumbled on the correct clip there. By itself, not a red flag, but a huge yellow one to me at least.
The way footage and script is juxtaposed is just clunky at times. That Red Dead Redemption scene being shown in the beginning has absolutely nothing to do with what he just said. Maybe it does for someone who has played Red Dead and knows the context of the scene! I haven't! If so, that's bad educational writing. If it is just as it feels, and that it's just a random scene from Red Dead only tangentially related to what he said, then that suggests that the script was created without the video essayist actually having a plan of what media to use as an example.
Again. All of this is just tangential, circumstantial evidence. I was honestly going to let it slide. If it wasn't for...
5. HE ATTACKS ANY PERSON IN THE COMMENTS WHO POINTS OUT ANY OF THESE INCONSISTENCIES! HE DOESN'T EVEN ARGUE WITH THEM! JUST THROWS GENERIC INSULTS THEIR WAY! THIS IS A MASSIVE FUCKING RED FLAG!
So yeah.
I actually have no idea if there's anything untoward going on in the creation of these video essays. What I DO feel almost 100% certain of is his motivation for creating these video essays.
His horror novels are prominently displayed in the background of shots. There are links to buy them in the video's bio.
So yeah, don't watch educational content who's primary reason for existing is to be a fucking advertisement. You deserve better than that.
Anyways!
Sorry for the long, rambling text. I hope this Tumblr page isn't going to be completely unusable from now. From what I've seen of his behavior, he's pretty fucking gung ho at throwing insults his critics ways and I hope this doesn't lead to a barrage of harassment. But I had to say something. Otherwise, I would not have had any peace of mind.
