beau-mccallum:
By the inflexion in Cooper’s tone and his expressions, it became instantly clear the topic of his father was a touchy one. One reason, Beau kept the fact his own father used to take him as well. Instead, Beau rambled on about the holidays coming up and somehow his way back towards Nathan. At Cooper’s remark, he nodded in agreement though wanted to add that he should be spending time with Nathan as well since they were best friends. But he managed to keep himself in check. “Do you have any plans for the holidays yet? Are you going to be spending them with Miss Leslie?” He questioned. “By the way how is your mother doing?” When it came to the other man’s mother, Beau found her to be an absolute delight.
Cooper was truly trying to keep his cool as the conversation continued, mainly because he adored Beau and respected his friendship. “Uh...yeah. She and I usually get some small game hens to eat. A whole turkey is too big for both of us. We’ve been doin’ it since I’ve been eight,” he explained. Everything was minimal- it was less waste that way. One can of corn, one box of stuffing, a couple of baked potatoes- sweet potatoes on a good year. “She’s good though. She’s real good. I’ll tell her you asked about her.” Cooper reached out and patted Beau’s shoulder, forcing a smile on his face. “You have fun, alright? You deserve it.”
beau-mccallum:
It was not Beau’s intention to lecture or even lay anything on the man across from him. All he wanted was to appeal to the man at reaching out towards Nathan. Even though deep down he knew it was not his place to resolve their problems. Beau nodded in agreement with Cooper’s comment. In his mind, he wondered if he could persuade Nathan to text Cooper. Then again, he probably was overstepping his bounds now. At Cooper’s request, Beau ended the conversation pertaining to Nathan and eased the subject into something else. “Sounds lovely, I remember enjoying doing that as a child.” The southern responded. “Not a whole lot is going on with me. Just recently got back from a fishing trip over the weekend. Classes are going well. I am excited for the holidays though I have yet to commit to go down to Georgia for Thanksgiving and Christmas to visit my family. Other than that my life is rather quiet. Just spend most of my free time with,” he paused for a moment embarrassed he already did a 180 back to Nathan. “Nathan.”
“My dad used to take me fishing.” His eyes peered down, struggling to listen to what Beau had to say. Blurry memories of his father hovering over him, teaching him how to cast and reel swarmed his mind. The faint scent of low tide was becoming real, but he snapped out of the daze as soon as he heard Nathan’s name. Cooper had definitely heard Nathan leaving his place to see Beau a number of times, but was too prideful to go out and quickly apologize. It was pathetic, the way Cooper would pop up off his couch and run to the peephole to see if Nathan was coming home or on his way out. If anything the constant reminder of his newfound loneliness was eating him alive. “Yeah, well...you should be spending time together. You guys are boyfriends or whatever.” The tone of his voice was equivalent to the eyeroll of a teenage girl.
rydell-lefleur:
“Oh, you know, the usual- plotting world domination, scouting locations for a secret lair and trying to recruit all the dastardly villains I can. All in a day’s work.” Despite the obviously ridiculous answer Rydell smiled as she said it- and really? Anyone who knew he would believe that over believing she was doing anything kind or generous. Given her general attitude towards people she had no doubt that people would believe that over her planning something like world peace or putting together a group of somewhat heroes to help people. Oh well. Being considered more villainous than kind wasn’t all bad. At least people didn’t expect too much from her at the end of the day. And she didn’t have to push herself to be nice when she didn’t want to be. There were some upsides, after all.
“What about you? What brings you here today, Coop?” Cocking her head to the side she gave him a quick once over, eyes narrowed as she pretended to be reading the situation. “Saving puppies? No, running an errand for your mom? No, I know- you’re pulling a LouAnne Johnson and reaching out to one of your students who needs extra care and help.” Okay, so she was teasing him but really, it was all done in good fun. She had yet to find a reason to tease Cooper in any other way which was surprising- she usually found a good reason to mask her bitchiness as being playful. But with him she only found herself teasing him in the friendliest way she could. Surprise, surprise.
He shook his head in an attempt to hide the smile that was creeping upon her face. She was silly. Cooper would never tell her that- she could probably have him seriously injured- but she was. “Well when you build your secret lair, make sure to gimme the passcode. I still wanna be able to hang out with you.” A soft chuckle escaped the tail end of his statement. As Rydell attempted to figure out why Cooper was at the shop, he couldn’t help but feel proud that all her thoughts seemed to be...noble. He may not have been the best or most intelligent guy when it came to certain subjects, but he prided himself on being a decent man. “As much as I would love to be rescuing a litter of puppies, it’s something much more dull. I lost my bike a few weeks ago and need a new one. You know how that goes,” he clenched his jaw. Did she know how it went? Probably not. Most adults had cars, even in the city. Turns out, people like to travel out of the city. “I just need somethin’ that’ll get me to and from work. Nothin’ crazy, not like those mountain biking bikes. Just a regular ten-speed.” There was more information than needed, but it was easy to talk to her. She didn’t judge- at least she hadn’t judged him so far.

What is your favorite thing about the class you teach?
I don’t have to take myself seriously while in the class, but also that moment when you see everything just make sense in a kids head? That shit is amazing. Being able to see their faces light up when they learn....it’s incredible.
Are you a jealous person?
As much as I wanna say ‘no,’ I can’t. I’m get extremely jealous very easily.
Talk to me.
“you’re so sweet!” thank you i have abandonment issues
I’m so sorry. You’re right.

larkshepherd:
There was only a partial second, mid-laugh, when Lark considered feeling bad for interrupting what looked like a run the man had been intensely focusing on. That was, until, her spoon was being lifted from her ice cream dish and her gaze, wide and surprised, followed it up, up, and into Cooper’s mouth. A sound fell out of her mouth after the laugh, short and surprised, somewhere between a gasp and a scoff and some other mangled noise of disbelief as she not only watched the man stick her one and only spoon into his mouth, but also consume her ice cream as well. She supposed his resistance to eating anything organic or naturally made didn’t apply to the ice cream of someone who very recently flicked a blueberry at his face (although in her defense, it wasn’t like she was aiming for the face}.
“Hey!” Her voice raised, following the surprised noise, eyes wide and yet, a teasing tone accompanying her voice. Did she deserve the stolen ice cream? Most likely. Was she completely thrown off by the forwardness? Absolutely. Although Lark shouldn’t have expected anything less from Cooper, especially when they had somehow slid from an awkward acquaintanceship into a comfortable friendship, something she was still thrown off by, sometimes even questioning her decision making when she remembered she became friends with the man, but still not entirely opposed to. It was easy and simple and Lark wasn’t exactly the best at making friends. “You’re such an obnoxious jerk,” She laughed lightly, swatting once at his leg. “I didn’t mean to hit your face, okay, but now that I think about it, it was probably an improvement.”
“Hey what?” he asked, a glint of mischief sparkling behind his brown eyes. There was a frequent push-and-pull with Lark that he enjoyed; she typically didn’t put up with any of his shit and he would try anything to get on her nerves. If anybody ever saw them together, they would think that they were mortal enemies. Truth be told, Cooper needed someone like Lark in his life. “I’m not a jerk! Obnoxious for sure, but definitely not a jerk,” he fought back playfully. Pulling up a chair from a neighboring table, Cooper helped himself to some more of Lark’s dessert. “You know, you can just tell me you wanna sleep with me. You don’t have to bully me like we’re in second grade.” He gave her a wink. “But Lark, tell me, why are you out here eating ice cream by yourself?”
beau-mccallum:
“Now Mr. Cooper, you are always good for something. Especially when it comes to keeping me company.” Beau responded with a pleasant smile across his lips. A part of Beau already regretted speaking about Cooper and Nathan’s squabble, but Cooper was the one to mention Nathan’s name and for some reason he spoke up about it. At Cooper’s expression of their happiness, Beau gave a slight nod. “Thank you,” he simply replied not sure what else he could even say. With Cooper’s next words, Beau slowly drew in air through his nostrils as he took a moment to think about his words. It was a delicate spot to be in right now and he certainly did not want to offend either parties. “Very kind of you to be thinking about Nathan’s and my relationship. Maybe it is not my place to say anything, however I have a feeling you want things repaired between you and him. And I also have a feeling Nathan misses you. It would be an absolute shame to allow pride to keep you apart longer than need be, but that is just my opinion on the matter. You do what you think is best. I shall drop the subject.” His blue eyes remained on the other man. “How is the school year going? Any fun field trips planned?”
His head hung low as Beau spoke. Obviously he wanted everything to be normal with Nathan again; it was absurd how much he missed him. At the mention of his pride, Cooper opened his mouth to argue but quickly closed it. Had it been anybody besides Beau talking to him, he would have spoke about how Nathan’s pride and ego weighed him down, and how he would never be the one to step up first. “It would be nice if he at least texted me. Or mom.” Leslie had attempted to talk to Cooper about the split numerous times, but there was nothing to say. Mainly, he didn’t want his mother to be mad at him as well; she was the last person he had on his side. When the topic turned to careers, a dull but safe subject, he nodded. “Field trips, got a few comin’ up. Gonna do the whole pumpkin-pickin’ thing next week. It works out because then they can just paint them and I can send them home.” He shrugged a bit. “What about you? What’s happenin’ in the life of Beau?”
emsigurdson:
Emilia felt pretty bad with how things just randomly stopped between the two. They use to always keep in contact with each other and suddenly it was like they ghosted. Life really happened, got in the way of things. “Same old same old, still the same Emilia, still the same bullshit at the hospital,” Emilia said as she shrugs her shoulders. “Listen, um…” The woman hesitated, an arm reached over to her neck and began to rub it. “I really feel awful about us drifting apart the way that we did. It wasn’t intentional and I am really not going to try to give you some dumb ass pathetic excuse why I haven’t reached out when a text takes only a few seconds.”
“Hey...,” he reached out and grabbed her free hand, softly grazing over the top of her palm. Cooper wouldn’t necessarily say the two drifted apart, it was just a matter of life getting in the way for both of them. Well, at least for him. “I’m much to blame as you are. A phone works both ways,” he gave her a gentle squeeze along with a grin. Cooper hadn’t been using or looking at his phone much these days, so even if Emilia had tried to reach out the chances of him responding would’ve been slim. “I’m here now though. Tell me everything that’s goin’ on.”
