Oh my good god, forget what I said earlier. Yes, tell me if I owe you posts, but for the past four hours, I have been losing data left and right as this laptop shuts down on me for no reason at all. Without Rhyme or Reason
âG-gopher?  Am I really no better than that?â  Steven is⌠slightly, only slightly, taking offense by that little comment.  However, as a grown man, he manages to shrug it off and realize that Wallace was only joking or teasing him.  At least⌠thatâs what he was hoping.
If Steven were going to come up with a comeback, he honestly would have failed in doing so. Â He couldnât think of anything clever anyway. Â Yet he still at least tries to think of something. Â Which is just going to backfire on him, in some way shape or form.
âWell then Wallace, If Iâm no better than a gopher, then youâre no better than a fish! Â Do you know how hard it is to pull you of all people away from the water. Â Quite.â Â He laughed, knowing that it wasnât a great comeback, but at least he tried. Â And now things were somewhat going back to how they usually were.
[Blue eyes gain a flicker of recognition. He heard that stammer quite clearly, and it's actually... funny. His attempt to keep even footing makes it all the sillier.
Naturally, that means it's time to keep that up.]
Oh, I have an idea. Probably as hard a time as it is to get you out of a cave.
[He angles his head away from the stone collector, propping himself up against the arm of the sofa here. It's far easier to go along with this mess now; he's glad things were steered away from the source of the problem, at least for now.]
It wouldn't be half as hard to get me to listen to you if you weren't such a stiff about swimming with me, yourself. Unless you're worried you'll dissolve in water, what with all the dirt you bury yourself in?
[Actually, thinking about it? If that's the case, he doesn't want Steven near his Pokemon. He keeps his Pokemon habitat in pristine condition - thanks to various systems, of course - and hardly wants to tolerate a dust ball messing it up.
Call him a prude if you want, but really. You wouldn't let a blob of mud hug your children, either.]

Dragon Dancing in the Rain
[Naturally, he can't pass an event like this up. They're not very common, after all! Pokemon Contests are one thing, but genuine shows are harder to come by. Master Juan constantly sponsors them and performs his own, and this time, Wallace has agreed to take part while his mentor's busy with gym responsibilities.
As long as the city's properly represented, that's fine with him. It's also a great excuse to dote on well-conditioned water-type Pokemon. âŤ
It'll be a good day.
And to start that day off, he's helping with some of the last pieces of setup before the show gets under way. Some of the entering trainers are already getting a start on wooing the crowds by practicing their warm-ups.
To be honest, it kind of makes him jealous. Aurora Beams, Water Pulses-- Whirlpools and Hydro Pumps that wouldn't look out of place in a contest at all!
The man straightens himself, wiping his wrist back across his brow as he scans over the practicing Pokemon. The last few decorative streamers here are officially fastened down, so that's done. He's due for a break, at this point.]
Talented trainers everywhere! I can safely say that I'm liking this turnout quite a bit already.
It's just a shame Milotic can't join them yet.
[Lord knows he'd love to show the water-type off like the rest of them, but alas. The poor thing's too big for anything except the stage.]

Latias and Longitude
[He loves the few months when he can actually be home. Not that Wallace has anything against travelling - he loves that, too. But it's always comforting to be able to know exactly where you need to go, how long it will take you to get there, and what awaits you when you arrive.
Far easier than dealing with a bunch of foggy uncertainties.
The man actually has business in Slateport here. One of the gym trainers is having a birthday, and he's hardly one to ignore the occasion. Since she's younger - not far along into her teen years - he went the somewhat-obvious route and chose an Azurill doll for her. The hard part was actually finding one of the things, since they're particularly expensive.]
At least it didn't take too long. I've had worse disasters, all things considered.
[Readjusting the giftwrapped box in his arms, he eases his way through the crowd to return to his car and drop it off. Let's get this out of the way and get back to life!

A Watery Grave
âI call it an attack,â Phoebe said as she winked at Wallace. âSorry, I become too lax & forget to call it out. Sorry,â Phoebe said as she rubbed the back of her head. Since Phoebe can communicate wordlessly with her Pokemon, she has to constantly remind herself to state attacks to be fair to her opponents. In official matches, she is much better. Though in causal ones she often forgets. âX used Hex.â
Phoebe looked down at Grey. While he didnât need air to live, being submerged wasnât going to help the situation.Â
âGrey! Faint Attack on the flopping fishy,â Phoebe yelled out. Grey faded & reappeared on Whiscash. It landed a strong blow on the fish & stood on its back.Â
Wh--!?
[Are you kidding!? That thing's not knocked out yet? That's why he thought it was an ability-- he had assumed X had fainted. His folly's costing him quite a bit here, as there's essentially nothing he can do for Whiscash now.
The catfish couldn't even dodge-- it's actually painful to watch Grey hit the poor thing so hard.
It's a flawless knock-out, and he retrieves the proper Pokeball to call him back.]
Well, Milotic. It's up to you, then.
[Not that he doesn't think his beloved Pokemon can pull it off. They've faced odds like this before. Plus, it isn't as though Phoebe's Pokemon are full on health, either. If that Drifblim can even move, he'll take it down fast.

[Milotic remains under the water to carry out the first bit of his command, and annoyed that the tide of battle is not in their favor, the colorful Pokemon swims up toward the surface in something of a rage, blasting steaming water from its mouth toward the ghost. As soon as the attack leaves its vicinity, the water-type plays it smart and ducks back down into the pool. At this point, it's play it safe or take careless hits.]

Really though, in all seriousness-- I'm familiar with music, song, dance, theatre, literature, and... honestly quite a bit more. I studied under master Juan, after all. He wouldn't dream of letting me calling myself an artist without understanding all aspects of it!
As for the more typical fields... Well. I don't really think I ever quite grasped the concept of paint and pen.

'Knowledge' and 'experience' are really very different things. I should have spent more time practicing that particular art form, looking back on things, but. You can't live with regrets, I suppose.

Flying Flags of Fame
[He'd recently received an invitation to be a special judge at one of the top contests in Johto, which he was honored to accept. It's not often he gets to visit the place, after all. Not only that, he has friends in the region he should probably catch up with. So even though the actual contest is tomorrow and he isn't due to report 'til some time in the morning, Wallace set out to spend today bothering old company.
Not only that, it'd also just be easier to simply rent a hotel for the night and start from there. He'd be well-rested and in the city without fuss in the morning instead of having to rush around at a ridiculous hour of the night to make it to the contest hall on time.
Regardless.
For this particular visit, he actually called ahead, as Lance could be... essentially anywhere at a moment's notice. Between all of them, it's absolutely hellish to run into each other without planning for it somewhere. And even with preplanning, it's still a headache.
Happily, he was able to get a hold of the man and a time was worked out between them.]
...But does he offer directions? No. Of course not.
[He's truly not as aggravated as he sounds. There are only so many directions he can take, and most of them are obvious - it's just a matter of pinpointing the pinhead.
Sooner or later, he has to be somewhere. Until then, he'll search at his own pace and enjoy the scenery.]
Whoever wrote this just-- they triggered my heart, oh my gosh. I've aimed for breaking the stereotype mold with this guy from day one, and I don't think there are words in the dictionary to spell out how impossibly happy I am that it seems like it's working!

Taking Shelter from the Rain
âHow is it hard to believe?â She asked, looking at Wallace. âTwenty scoops isnât that much. Your saying it like itâs a bad thing! (but cynthia it is ;;) âAnd Iâm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Sinnoh is a cold place.â The Sinnoh champion stood up, deciding to head out to a new location. Maybe it was because of the group of people gathering outside at the sigh of two mighty Champions..?
âHmm.. It looks like we should move out before itâs impossible.â She said, smiling at Wallace.
Every time, hm? [He returns the smile, albeit it's a little strained. He's used to the curious folks - between Cynthia and himself, it's likely that they have ninety percent of the overall champion fanbase - but it would be nice to have more than a rare day for unbothered recreation. While he doesn't particularly want to visit something as loud as an amusement park, the idea of being able to without possible mauling and requests for photographs every street corner would be nice.
Surely she feels the same way, so he won't bother to bring it up aside from that.
Instead of blathering, he straightens to join her, dusting off his sleeves and legs out of habit.]
If experience talks, the whole town might be off limits to us by now. It's actually unfortunate.
[Glancing toward the rather crowded windows, he humors the curious and offers them a wink and a wave. While the attention is drastically tiring, he can't bring himself to be annoyed at those followers. They're not really causing harm, after all.]
Any ideas, then? In this weather, we might be trapped. Maybe a library? I wouldn't be opposed to an aquarium, if they had one. But maybe that's too predictable?
A Mountain of Silver, a Moment of Gold
âI am pretty good at getting outa tight spots no worriesâ The girl reassured making a small laugh, while he Lucario looked less impressed about the idea, it had been quite the crybaby when it hatched it didnât seem to be enjoying the topic lingering on him after it had just lost, though at least he was able to take losing pretty well.Â
Raising her hand to her chin she started to try recall exactly what had happened, or rather the best way she could actually phrase it, a lot was going on and once at the time it was probably better to skip over some of the details such as the huge thing about team galatic blowing up lakesâŚ
âWell I had finally gotten through this cave with my party after well⌠nearly getting lost, if it wasnât for staraptor getting rid of all the fog I have no idea how long we would had been in there, but any ways we had to eventually climb up this huuuge mountain which was coated in some real thick snow, though when we got about half way up a blizzard started kicking in, then this guyâ The girl then gently nudged her Lucario which just glanced down at the floor feeling slightly ashamed. âEnded up hatching while in the middle of dealing with some wild sneasels, ice pokemon really are relentless up there, it was a real rough time for him to come out though.â
âTaking care of a baby pokemon in a snowstorm while battling is as easy as it likes to soundâŚThough I canât forget how awful I felt while it was all happening it was pretty much impossible to stay focused, I thought I was gonna lose him after finally getting to meet him.â
[He laughs, not because it's funny, but because the sheer amount of bad luck there is astounding. That's quite the situation!]
Really? He gave you that much trouble from day one? [The man chuckles into his wrist, kneeling lakeside next to the two.]
I suppose that's one way to find out what you've signed up for, then, isn't it? No surprises or devious revelations down the road.
[This girl's leading quite the adventurous life. Good for her! That's the whole point of the journey - anyone who can make a true story out of it, intentionally or not, gains benefit from it.]

âX!â Phoebe cringed as Driftblim takes some damage the rushing water. Driftblim managed to strike a bold pose before being entombed by Ice Beam. âNot bad,â Phoebe said as Driftblim fell into the pool. It bobbed in the waves as a malicious aura surrounded Driftblim.Â
âYou ready for a little solo action, Grey?â Banette faded & reappeared on Phoebeâs half of the battlefield. âLetâs show give them a small sampling of the afterlife. Give Milotic a hug with Faint Attack!â Banette faded into darkness. & appeared behind Milotic & landed a powerful strike. It grabbed onto the Pokemonâs neck & held tightly.
[Small miracles. Wallace slumps for a moment as the Drifblim goes down, releasing a breath. That's unfortunately all he has time for, as Grey targets-- Milotic?
Brows furrow, figuring that she would have had the ghost type attack Whiscash and even the playing field it while the fish was weak. If he were familiar with the fainted Pokemon's species, he would've put two and two together, but its ability is foreign to him.]
Milotic, get it off of you! Try diving under the water.
[The elegant water type grimaces at its injury, tossing its head to try and launch the clingy ghost away to no avail. Its response to its trainer is slower as a result of the shock, but it does comply. Although whether or not water will deter the undead is debatable and both Wallace and his Pokemon are aware of it.
They can't hurt it if it they can't hit it, either.
While he's brainstorming how to command Whiscash to hit that ghost while it's so close to Milotic, the carp gives a harsh wobble in the pool, flopping over onto its side.]
--!? Whiscash, wh-- [A frustrated noise. So it's one on one, then.]
... Your Drifblim-- what did it do? [He's not so clueless as to miss that, now that it's taken its toll. That darkness must have been responsible, somehow.]

Volkner was actually incredibly surprised to look up to see someone else there, curiously glancing to whoâd appeared. âAh, I can get on my own, but if you insist.â He replied, shrugging.
He turned, taking one of the boxes, managing to open the door awkwardly between  his elbow and foot, carrying it to a little spot under the stairs. He turned, sliding back through the door.Â
The manâs name was bugging him. He certainly looked familiar, but Volkner didnât think theyâd ever spoken, which usually meant he should know who he was, but in all honesty, Volkner rarely actually knew.Â
Quietly, he hoisted up a heavier box, âCould you get the door?â He asked, leaning into his hip to make the weight a little better distributed while he waited for the door to be opened.
Finally, heâd looked over to the other man to take in his appearance fully, hoping to put a name to a face. Light bluish hair, dressed well in whites and blues, there could be an argument for green hues in any of the shades, except that his pants were a dull but well matched purple. This guy obviously cared a great deal for his appearance.
If Volkner was to take a guess, the man probably trained water types, type trainers always look the part, hell, he had spiky yellow hair and trains electric types.
[Well, there can be one thing said about this man: he certainly knows the benefit of hard labor. Admirable!
Perhaps due to that - and again, curiosity rearing its head - Wallace answers the blond's request without a complaint, stepping through with a more manageable box tucked in his arms to remain out of the way of his progress. Blue eyes take in the interior of the lighthouse since the opportunity's presented itself, noting how modernized it is.
That does hint why so much needs to go in there. Maintenance and storage?
Either way, he gives a gesture to Volkner to let the other man know the doorway's clear and he can get through.]
Now. What was that about being fine on your own?
[It's harmless ribbing, though he is distracted by scanning the ground for any sort of stick or something to serve as a door stopper. The doors may just hold open on their own, too...]

Once you've taken care of that beast of a box, I'd actually recommend propping this door open somehow, else we'll be killing one another playing butler like this. I don't like the idea of you having to cart all of these boxes primarily by yourself.
[Because really, looking between the two of them? Which is better suited to the heavy lifting and which for the service work?]

Honesty, of course Steven is being honest with him. Wallace could be such an⌠idiot sometimes.  He knew how honest they were with each other.  They pretty much told each other everything⌠and anything.  Heck, if Steven was a crime boss, heâd still tell Wallace.  That was the level of their relationship between them.  They really just cared that much.  There were no lies and everything was out in the open.  They really just trusted each other more than they trusted anyone else in the world.
âHmâŚ?  Since when have I not been honest?â  He smiled, gently pushing Wallaceâs shoulder in a playful fashion.
Wallace always did love this sort of playful behavior. Â Steven would know. Â It seemed to cheer him up, if he wasnât in the best of moods.
âLook, you dont have to give me an answer right away Wallace.  I can understand whyâ why you feel like if we tried a second time, and if it didnât work out,  it would ruin our friendship.  But⌠I can assure you that, no matter what⌠I will always be your friend.  You are one of the most precious people in my life, after all.  Where would I be without you?  In a hole in the ground, probably.â
He is again, trying to lift Wallaceâs spirit because he seems to be uncomfortable or rather much more hesitant than anything else.
[Well. It's kind of working. He lets Steven push at him, going along with the momentum from the affectionate shove. The coordinator shakes his head as his light-haired friend pretty much bends himself over backwards trying to make his point, and the taller of the two returns that shove in kind.]
Overkill isn't flattering.
[He is smiling, though, albeit faintly. So it's doing its job.]
As for that comment about where you would be... Steven Stone, you already spend all of your time in a hole in the ground. You're no better than a gopher, as it stands.
[Wallace laughs under his breath, leaning back in the seat he's occupying in an effort to further dispel the tension.
There we go, back to a hint of normalcy. It's not the flawless torment these two are famous for inflicting on each other, but it's a start.]
