when the news reached him there was an instant feeling of relief. there had been uncertainty about the boy’s chances after he had been taken to the hospital with injuries that he’d suffered by kakashi’s own hand. and while he knew there was nothing he could’ve done to foresee that the boy would jump in front of zabuza to save his life, kakashi still thought about that incident more than he was willing to admit. did he blame himself? well, sometimes. logic would say that he was just trying to protect his students, and that haku’s actions couldn’t have been predicted (and he knew that. really, he did.) but logic didn’t always play a part in what he actually felt. and sometimes, he did blame himself for haku ending up in a coma. which is why he would pay a visit once in a while when he wasn’t busy, so as to see if there was any good news from the medical-nins at the hospital. so yes, to finally receive the news, that he was not only awake, but well on his way to recovery, was a relief. it didn’t take long for kakashi to find the boy outside.

Though she doesn’t entirely see how the symbol etched into his headband resembles a leaf, Ava simply nods along with a hum of understanding meant only to appease him. She’s learned what she wanted to know, and sees no need to pursue the topic further.

it’s pretty clear that she’s lost, and though she seems embarrassed to admit it, he doesn’t see any reason for why she would be. if anything, now he knew that she might need some help, which he was happy to offer.

He offered another bow, pleading the jounin to comply to his request. To everyone who would hear this story, they would think ill of his teammates, finding their actions to be unnecessarily cruel but Kura was still able to forgive and find logic in their actions even though it shouldn’t be defended.
However, now the boy found himself to be in a little bit of a bind. He had failed this mission and had nothing to bring back to his teammates. As he straightened up, he kept his head down, pinching his shorts just thinking about what kind of punishment was in sort for him when he returned.
“ well, obviously i don’t know them, so i’m not one to judge whether or not they’re bad people. for all i know, they might’ve just not known any better. but still, it doesn’t change the fact that asking you to do this task is putting your life at risk before you’re even ready for it — something which training is supposed to prepare you for...”
there’s a reason he’s being so critical of whoever had sent the kid out here ; because he used to have a very similar mentality himself. he used to think that he was better than his teammates, and that they were only holding him back. that obito in particular didn’t have it in him to become a real shinobi. if only he had opened his eyes a little earlier and realized that obito had always been more of a shinobi than he’d ever be, then maybe obito... and maybe rin... would’ve both still been alive today...
as memories flood back, his gaze seems to drop. just the very thought of his former teammates is enough to make his entire body feel more heavy, yet hollow at the same time. taking a deep breath, he lets a heavy sigh escape his lips, and when he speaks again, his voice sounds a lot more quiet — tired, as if all his energy had just been drained from him. “ i’m guessing your sensei isn’t the one who told you to do this... right?”

having been bed-ridden for quite some time after sustaining serious injuries on a mission, the first thing kakashi did once his body allowed it, was to go outside to test his current capacity. he soon found that he still wasn’t entirely recovered just yet, however — there was certain moves that still sent a wave of pain through him, and his stamina wasn’t quite there either.
upon hearing the other’s comment, kakashi pauses to look over at her.
“ thanks...” he mutters, though his voice ends up sounding more exhausted than he’d intended. and even more, for a brief moment, he even feels dizzy. maybe he should’ve listened to the warnings about pushing himself too much before he got back to full health after all. taking a step back to support himself against the tree behind him, a hand comes up to touch his brow. probably best to take a break, he figures. || @lockedfighter ||
