Sup, I'm Coq aka StarKoalaTea on ao3 and this is my Miraculous Ladybug sideblog (that means I follow back from another account entirely and send messages on anon or as my main blog)

I like the punk kids in MLB and talk about them a lot but also include their loved ones or people I think they would get along with

Villains AU aka Akuma City, once you're an akuma, you are never de-akumatized, Monarch is actually the Miraculous Sage aka the first person to make a Miraculous, and he's using it for Evil Science, Marc/Luka, has a side AU where i adjust the timeline for shitty evil family shenanigans

Wonderland's Wide Universe, a kwamiswap where Marinette is the Black Cat, Adrien is Ladybug (genders and names stay the same) and Marc is the Rabbit, other swaps yet to be spoken about at length, mostly focuses on AFTER the Big Final Battle. [much trauma being dealt with, read with caution], Past Marc/Nath, Future Marc/Any Guy That's Cute Enough and Some Girls

Among Us aka Sussy AU, Adrien/Marc based, legit just a small AU with many of the cast as Among Us Crewmates, Adrien's an Imposter (or is it Felix?)

Half Life AU, specifically Half Life TWO but yeah, it's an offshoot of my Mafia AU but with Marc old enough to have remembered when the aliens came, but young enough to easily fall in line with the new world order

Mafia AU, a very very detailed AU with family trees created that basically has the world of MLB having gone to the wolves before the main cast had even been born, and every change that stems from oh, the peacock being used to create the Graham de Vanily family line as eternal servants to royalty, very much based in the Beta Designs and the Quantic Kids are a major show of the whole thing

i am Once Again Wondering

why Claw Noir didn't speak as a civilian

why did he wait until he was back in uniform to question his Shadybug

yes he made some noises but

he didn't speak

Shadybug didn't even expect him to say anything, she was watching him and got her answers from his reactions or lack thereof

i am ALSO once again suggesting that perhaps civilian adrien had never been able to speak

perhaps only emilie had his rings (assuming he was still a Senti) and she (hopefully) accidentally told him to be quiet before she died and then wearing Plagg's ring lets him go around it??

perhaps the motherfucker in charge (the Supreme) removed his speech somehow???

we just dont know, theres so many options

even just a simple, he's selectively mute and only feels able to speak when he's not himself

Young claw noir used to babble constantly, present-day Betterfly can't remember when he stopped but if he tried really hard, it always coincided with hia wife's death

Every now and then he'll get a sentence from his son but mostly he's quiet

After he learns his son is claw noir, he blames the Supreme entirely, never once thinking it might be his wife's fault

Because she never told him what she did with the stolen miraculous

He legitimately has no idea

He only finds out when his Adrien needs to borrow the peacock for some reason and Duusu fawns over the boy, saying he grew up so well

They are struck with horror at what Emilie did

Question...is it just talking or any type of communication... Cause sign-language is not seen as talking

Oh I know, I still consider it talking when I'm chatting about a character and my asl headcanons

But the average person? They require a voice saying words without any aid from any robots or other people

And by the logic of genie magic, if a senti was specifically told "be quiet", I imagine that would only affect the voice

Hey! Dunno if you’re aware of this, but from your post on the 1st night of chanukkah where you mentioned wanting to see Nathaniel confirmed as Jewish in the show, there is reason the show doesn’t do that.

Astruc said in a tweet a few years ago that the show would not portray and explicit religious symbol or topics because french broadcasters are extremely strict about such content in children’s shows to avoid “proselytizing”. Astruc himself agreed, saying “I agree [with this decision] 100%. Religion = private matter.

This kinda boils down to France’s different cultural perspective around religious identity. Meaning we won’t ever see a Jewish, Muslim, or Christian character depicted the same way we do in America (or other English speaking countries idk if you’re American or not) because our understanding of representation around religion is a lot more accepting given how much religion plays a part in our society unconsciously.

France also doesn’t have a great track record with being okay with Muslim people. I don’t think antisemitism is a problem there the same way it is for Islamophobia, but definitely also an issue.

TLDR: France is not jumping for joy at the idea of kids being exposed to religion via TV and not their parents, and the show reflects that :(

It’s def weird for me (an American) to see queer characters, BIPOC characters, black autistic representation, disabled characters galore and not a single religious person 😭

I'm actually well aware of this, I thought I implied it fairly well in the post itself that I knew France had a thing about it.

I just didnt want to really get in on that when it was a headcanons post

But since you're here, lemme give you the full context of my trip to France.

When I was 21, my very religious Catholic parents told me I could go to Europe for 2 and a half weeks, I just had to go as part of a pilgrimage. We spent 2 weeks in Italy and half a week in France. And I was very much pretending my hardest to still be Catholic cuz it was a free trip to Europe

When we got to France, we were doing a whole 3 days walking and camping thing from Chartes to Paris and we have a very specific itinerary that told us where we would be at the end of each night

I overhead the adultier adults gossiping at the campfire and complaining about how we had to change at least one of the campgrounds because of discrimination

I, of course, dont know how true they were being, cuz I was eavesdropping and really only knew foods in French at the time

But I remembered that shit

And I remembered all the other tiny details like the faces of waiters when we walked into a restaurant with our ladies covering their heads or when they also made a face when we ordered specific food

And I remembered flipping through the TV channels the one night we stayed in a hotel in France, trying to find something to watch, and the chaperone suggesting i give it up because I wouldn't find anything religious (i didn't care what'd I found honestly)

So yeah

While I WISH that we could tell more easily when a character is Jewish or Muslim in a show like Miraculous Ladybug, I am well aware of the issues with that

When I first saw Marc in miraculous, I thought he was trans. I don't think he is???? But its nice to think so??? Idk, recently found out his character was not intended to be seen as trans

Besides what others said, the only thing about his gender that was said was actually that his pronouns are he/ him, not that he was a boy, but that he uses he/ him pronouns

So even when I write nonbinary Marc i use he/him because of that, mostly at least, everyone can have a she day or a they day

final/8th night of chanukah

i hope yall enjoyed this, i intend to keep going and spread out to other characters after today

because while its the last night of chanukah, the holidays are still here

i missed Yule, on purpose, because i wanted to focus on Chanukah, and once its the 25th, I'll focus on Christmas as i know very little about Kwanza beyond the technicality that not many of the active Miraculous Characters would celebrate as, if i recall correctly, its strictly an American holiday

As for Chanukah tonight--

my last Nath headcanon (for now) is that he's trans

it took him a bit to come out to his family, and by the time he had told his parents, they had already started planning a bat mitzvah for him and was actually the leading reason for why he decided he HAD to tell them SOON

he didn't want to be recognized as a young lady of his culture, so he squared his shoulders and said to his parents, in the middle of their planning, "ACTUALLY!! imaboy...bai!"

his parents were thrown off by his confession and then his running off to Alix's

they didn't immediately run after him, mostly because they were trying to figure out what he said

eventually they called up Nath who ignored their call, then Alix, who also ignored it, and THEN Alix's dad who answered and then questioned Nath "your parents are saying you mumbled something at them before you came here today and want to know what you said"

and nath mumbled more so Alix sighed and smacked him with a pillow before raising her voice so she could be heard on the phone by her dad's ear

"Your SON says his name is NATHANIEL!"

her father repeated it on the phone and that was that

7th night of chanukah

alix is in a curious way

in my headcanons, her mom died young, which seems to be canon implied as well, and so was raised by her father

her father, whom i wanna say is mostly non-religious but during his days of archaeology took into his own personal culture aspects of what he's learned

which leaves Alix? taking the bits and pieces she learned from her dad ("In Ancient Sumeria, they would--") and then going to Nath's house every other day since she was small and learning all about her bestie's culture

so Alix, in my mind, is almost jewish

she was adopted into the family easily

and she had a legitimate moment of confusion when she realized she wasn't technically going to have a bat mitzvah

i imagine she did still have one, just not at the expected time, especially with her dad having a tiny bit of pushback about it based on "she's not meant for this world... why restrain her to a religion?"

in my mind, he did tell Nath's mom WHY he was resistant about it, quietly, they cried about it together, and then setup her party a bit later

6th night of chanukah

canon and headcanon combo for yall tonight

first i wanna talk about the CANON which is that Nath is absolutely a reference to a famous comic artist yall may or may not know

this is Jack Kurtzberg, better known as Jack Kirby

this man is the inspiration for many comic artists, including Nath. A Jewish comic artist making superheroes, with the last name Kurtzberg

and here's where my headcanon is: my headcanon is that Jack Kirby does still exist in the universe and Nath actively looks up to him

he saw this successful guy that was just like himself and he was so happy (we're ignoring the sexuality in this moment) that he went to his mum and said "look ma! a really cool and famous comic artist!"

she didn't take it well

she insisted it wasn't real art and the man was just a nobody

that hit Nath hard

it took him a few years to get his confidence back, but he just kept looking at what his favorite people could do and he quietly worked at his chosen hobby, Alix over his shoulder making unhelpful suggestions

5th night

i slept right after work so forgive on missing days, my schedule is fucky during the holiday season

lets keep it small and simple

my next headcanon about nath is Alix is not just his best friend but his sister in his heart

they met when they were kids, roughhousing and being dorks, and then Alix just kept going home with Nath and Nath kept going home with Alix

and Nath's mom doesn't know WHEN she gave birth to a daughter but there's a pink-haired punk at her table every other night calling her mom and she can't help but love this girl with all her heart

4th night of headcanons for the holidays

OKAY so i've talked a LOT about Nath for chanukah, but heres a the thing, pretty much ANYBODY in the show can be Jewish since NO ONE is confirmed to be of ANY religion

so for the 4th night?

Marinette is now Jewish

she started her clothes making business because she wanted the PERFECT outfit for her bat mitzvah and she started planning it when she was ten years old

and then when it was time for Nath's bar mitzvah, he casually remarked how he had his fitting and his shirt just wouldn't sit right no matter what and the texture was weird

marinette tried her best to finish a shirt on time for Nath and that affection and dedication his friend gave him for such an important day is what caused his crush on her to start

he fumbled through thanking her as his hands slid across the soft shirt that fit him perfectly

she didn't notice a thing, too happy to have finished on time
