HELL🎃WEEN IN JAPAN 1989(Japanese Music Magazine VIVA ROCK)🎸
I recently stumbled upon a rare vintage magazine at a secondhand bookstore!
It features some incredibly cute and funny photos of Helloween during their 1989 visit to Japan, along with a hilarious article.
I’d love to share some of it with you here.
Ingo with cat 🐈 (According to the article ,during his sightseeing trips while on tour in Japan, he often enjoyed playing with local cats ☺️)
Weiki and Michi teasing each other on the sofa
It seems they went to see a circus near the concert venue. In the fourth photo, you can see Ingo riding an elephant and Weiki recording it!📹
Pumpkins got their palms read!
During their promotional tour in Japan in 1989, the members of Helloween sat down for a unique interview where they had their palms read by a Japanese fortune teller.
Here is the English translation along with the original Japanese text from the magazine at the time. (It seems like there are handprints, signatures, and self-portraits by the band members in this article! ✍️)
The scan didn’t turn out very well, so I apologize if it’s a bit hard to read. That being said, I think these handprints are actually life-size! (They are absolutely huge!)
Michael Kiske, a man full of youthful energy, tends to do everything on his own. He is blessed with the talent to handle almost anything by himself, without needing anyone’s help. Always smiling and charming, he is naturally well-liked by everyone.
Rather than grinding away step by step, he relies on his natural talent to get things done, which naturally puts him in the spotlight. His desire to stay at the top fuels his motivation for future projects, and his passionate, creative drive is what leads to hit songs.
Women feel completely at ease around Michael because he is romantic and kind. However, when it comes to choosing a lifelong partner—setting aside casual girlfriends—the woman he marries must be someone who can truly support him.
Although he is at the forefront of modern trends, he has this unexpected, traditional side to him. The stars are definitely aligned in his favor. Since he possesses a star that attracts wealth, he will likely own a large piece of land by his 50s and live a life of comfort and leisure.
Although he can sometimes be a bit too energetic, his cheerful and humorous personality makes him well-liked and cherished by those around him. Because he is thoughtful and kind-hearted, he can befriend just about anyone.
However, he has two sides to his personality: he is also strong-willed, unique, and has a firm core. He is the type of person who will spare no effort and persevere to the very end to get his way.
Combined with his strong fortune, he is the type for whom things tend to go smoothly. He also has the gift of leadership, though he leads by gathering people around him and taking care of them.
Between 1992 and 1995, Michael Weikath will experience a major turning point. Once he passes the age of 40, he will likely want to start his own venture and become independent. With excellent intuition, flashes of inspiration, and quick wit, he has a promising future and is bound to succeed.
He is an idealist with keen intuition and flashes of inspiration, living life according to his own unique ideas. While he isn’t cut out for leadership, he is single-minded and the type to push forward once he’s made up his mind. On one hand, he possesses grand plans and visions, but on the other, he also seems prone to having those plans derailed.
In public, he rarely reveals his true feelings or desires; he remains calm and composed, never clashing with others, and is unfazed by events. Because he is a deeply compassionate person, he is trusted by those around him, often consulted, and frequently asked for help—making him the affable Roland we know.
While he displays this flexible side, his way of thinking and decision-making is surprisingly rational. The approachable Roland tends to experience some fluctuations in his fortune, but he is a mature individual who interprets situations positively and overcomes them every time. Therefore, in the future of Helloween as well, he will play an active and contributing role, serving as a valuable buffer.
He has a philosophy of life that prioritizes the spiritual over the material. Markus loves music and is highly adaptable; he has a very cheerful and somewhat boisterous personality. He is also very athletic and loves to be constantly on the move, never sitting still for a moment.
He is curious about new things and can turn just about anything into a toy, surprising those around him. With a highly flexible mind, Markus draws people in with his wit and has a natural talent for brightening up any situation.
Plus, since he is a bit of a chatterbox and approaches everyone in an open, friendly manner, he is liked by everyone. Although he has his pride, he rarely asserts himself; he listens carefully to what others say, is open-minded, and loves a lively atmosphere—making him naturally sociable. However, he has a strong obsession with beauty and has very clear preferences when it comes to clothing.
Ingo isn’t exactly Rodin’s “The Thinker,” but he is the type to ponder things deeply. He’s a thoughtful person who carefully weighs his options before taking action. Far from being calculating, he possesses a genuine broad-mindedness, combined with foresight and the ability to act swiftly when the time is right. In other words, he adapts effortlessly to any situation.
Furthermore, he has a natural gift for drawing people in—the true mark of an entertainer. Not only is he good-looking, but he also carries a charm that makes you want to strike up a conversation. His personality is equally wonderful: gentle, calm, and composed. Highly capable, he takes initiative and learns incredibly fast, making him someone you can always rely on.
While he is highly skilled, he tends to move at his own pace, which sometimes makes him stand out—but this patience is exactly what allows him to see things through to the end. Like new buds ready to burst into bloom in spring, Ingo has an exciting energy, and his future is truly something to look forward to.
