Some days is good, some days is derp!
When you just fed your snakes and now all they can think of is second dinner
Hey reptiblr, could I get the help of people familiar with blue tongue skinks? My friend has taken one in that belonged to a different family member of hers and needs help identifying the subspecies so she can make sure she gives him the proper care. (Our best guess right now is Merauke.)
Ignore the big sore on his hind end for now, that is being treated. From what I understand, the body condition in general isn’t great and tips on getting him back into top shape are also welcome.

Definitely an Indonesian species, but I’m not familiar enough with those species/subspecies to say for sure. I would recommend checking out the detailed care sheet at bluetongueskinks.net if you haven’t already. I don’t follow it exactly, but it’s a good jumping-off point.
If nobody on tumblr can give you an 100% confident ID on the species/subspecies (or if you just want a second opinion) I would recommend finding a blue tongue ID Facebook group or checking out the ID forum on bluetongueskinks.net.
Hope that helps!
Definitely a merauke!
What problems are there with body condition? A common issue is that Indonesian blue tongue species are kept in low humidity, so make sure humidity is at least 70% and your basking spot is at least 100 F. Skinks are pretty hardy, so as long as you provide him a proper set up and diet, he should be alright!
Thank you guys for the advice! We asked on Facebook too and Merauke has been a pretty consistent answer.
I'm not entirely sure about what the issues are with the body condition; I'm not very familiar with skinks. My friend thought it seemed like his hips were jutting a little, and then this isn't so much body shape but his nails are a mess. But he's eating well and putting up with treating the sore. I sent her that care sheet and hopefully he'll be doing great before too long here!

So we got this kingsnake a while back at the museum I volunteer at caring for their animals who is such a sweetheart and it got me interested in acquiring a kingsnake of my own. The other day I was at the local pet shop and took a look at their baby snakes. This girl was buried in the aspen but popped her head out when I looked over, stuck out her tongue and then yawned really big and it was so dang cute, I just fell in love. So meet Rhosyn, my new Florida kingsnake!
Please tell Simba that I love him.
Simba says thanks and he loves you too!

Happy World Snake Day from Bryony!

The best boy
Had a warm day so I let Bracken check out my baby tree
Simba is very photogenic and I really need to get my camera back from my friend so I can actually capture that. (And also maybe the sun needs to come back.)
Getting big though!
