Happy 14th Hatchday to the royalist of derp, Little prince!
(The discoloured tail tip is normal for him this time of year. During breeding season blood is diverted away from the extremities towards the testes. On snakes that have more see-through skin like Little Prince, you can see the reduced oxygenation in the tail tip. It'll return to normal once breeding season is over.)

I'm still figuring out the style I'm going to use for the Orochi High reboot, so I need to draw more snakes!
Send me an ask with your pet snake, snaracter (snake character), or an OC you'd like to see as a snudent at Orochi High, along with a brief description (gender, personality, what their favorite snubject would be, etc.).

First up is @the-mighty-python's Christine! She's a pretty orange dream pied ball python.
At Orochi High, they describe her as a quiet lone wolf who likes to doodle in the margins of her classwork. Just don't push her too far, because beneath that quiet facade hides a firey temper!
Next up is @mirateski's Sir Boosquish the Second, AKA "Boo!"
This Kenyan sand boa's favorite snubject at O-Hi is Snath, though he's not the best at it.
Next up is Bob, @mrspicydad's albino ball python!
Though not the best snudent, he's a great cook and does well in home snekonomics class.
Next up is @hearthawk's beautiful corn snake Aya, whose real-life inspiration has sadly passed away.
Last up for this first batch is @lycantherous' Shel, a hipster-ajacent boa poet (boet?)!

As we've already got Little Prince and Yuma as celebrities, lets throw in little Butch Cassidy and his rabbit ear markings XD
He has trouble getting to school on time as he's a deep sleeper and sleeps through alarm clocks. On the plus side, when he wants to take a nap, he can fall asleep anywhere! He's also a bit shy about eating in front of anyone. he always waits for people to look away. He loves nature and has the patience to watch wildlife for hours (though sometimes ends up falling asleep instead XD)
Just as a little heads up, PetSmart is (and presumably other pet stores are) starting to carry Regal Jumping Spiders as pet stock.
The ones being sold are WILD CAUGHT. They're being found MISLABELED for sex (females labeled as males etc), and no consideration is being given to the fact that wild caught jumping spider females are pretty much ALWAYS GRAVID. They mate once and will lay around 5 clutches of 25+ eggs each clutch. Since they're only native to a few states, releasing spiderlings means potentially introducing invasive animals, meaning the choice comes down to raising a hundred or more babies or euthanizing a hundred or more babies.
If you've been thinking about getting a jumping spider pet, please do not shop from a major pet store. There are plenty of breeders now, selection for cool traits and more friendly dispositions is being done. You can get a young spider you know is young AND know won't make more of itself despite you never putting another spider in with her. Or get an actually confirmed male if you prefer. And it'll cost you about the same amount as a pet store disaster.
Little Prince was asleep in his favorite place in the linen drawer last night. In the middle of the night he decided to troll me by coming out, climbing up the bed, somehow worked his way into my pillowcase…

Serpent meets tiny serpent.
The snakes got their annual vet check today. The vet was able to confirm that Little prince has cataracts, he has partial sight in his right eye and is completely blind in his left side.
That explains his behavior change last year as not wanting to leave his viv and suddenly startling and whipping his head round. I'm hoping he'll be able to adapt in time as it's hard seeing him getting so scared and panic bolting.
Other than that, he got a clean bill of health!
Yuma also got a clean bill of health! It was such a relief after having her develop respiratory infections the last couple of years after her Winter dormancy. It looks like adding the heat panel to the top of the viv and keeping her cool temps raised to 22-23c has made the difference :D
I'm glad i've got such a good local reptile vet. There's so little info out there about older snake care that I hadn't come across anything that talked about keeping them a couple of degrees warmer to compensate for a weaker immune system. Fingers crossed she'll keep well this year ^^

Was feeling irrated while sorting some stuff in the bedroom and turned round to see Prince going 'hmmmmm?' at me. It's hard to stay in a grump with this little derp around XD

I'm sorry for the lack of Prince photos this year. Since Summer, he hasn't wanted to come out of his viv once. He's also been startling and whipping his head round when I walk past the viv like Yuma did when she first started to develop cataracts. So I think he may now also be getting cataracts and he's lost some confidence moving around. He'll get his usual annual vet check up in the Spring so hopefully they can take a closer look and confirm if cataracts are developing!
But with him not being out and about, most photos of him this year are basically this-

Yuma usually loves to snooze the winter away in the bookshelf. But as she's older, she has to be kept warmer so has to stay in her viv over Winter so I can control the temperature. As you can imagine, she was very unhappy so I made her a mini-bookcase in her viv to sleep in!
I matched the same size gap at the top, there's a space behind the books for her to sleep in and the book's have her smell on them so fingers crossed she'll find it acceptable XD
