After some attempts to create the rim, I’ve decided I won’t use this is my exhibition as it won’t go round. I feel that I have not put enough layers on the body of the cauldron therefor it’s not strong enough to hold. Due to this taking so long to complete, I can’t to make it again. It’s also a lot bigger than I thought it would be and in my opinion it’s too big for what I wanted to do with it.

This is the final outcome of my lookbook and I am very happy with how it turned out

These are some of the final pages of my lookbook. By looking at the examples of lookbooks and putting them into my own style and theme, I feel I did well and I am proud of the outcome.

When creating my lookbook, other than my research in magazines I also looked on Pinterest at some simple but effective lookbook layouts. I feel some of these ideas helped to inspire my own.

Design twenty one

To create this design, I looked at my research into Isobel Gowdie and what I saw at the witchcraft museum in Cornwall. The skirt was inspired by the inside of the faerie meeting area she attended, I added similar affect as the branches patterning the skirt. The bottom of the skirt was inspired by the shape of the hill of the meeting and the small chain of moons and suns across was inspired by the symbols inside the meeting area. The top of the design was inspired by the hare she was said to have turned into. I like how the enlarged ears look and I feel this design fits my customer and theme very well. The front of the dress is very low cut and quite revealing inspired by the confessions she gave when being accused of witchcraft.

To create this design, I was inspired by my primary research from the witchcraft museum in Cornwall. The top and top skirt of this dress was inspired by the green man I saw in the museum I liked the way the leafs are shaped around the head and wanted to do that with a dress. I added a plain underskirt so I could have the top skirt as it is. The symbols on the top are also inspired by symbols of the green man. I like this design and I feel that it matches well to my customer and theme.

To create this design, I was inspired by my primary research from the witchcraft museum in Cornwall. The whole shape off the dress was inspired by a type of voodoo I saw in the museum, I really like how that dress is shaped as I feel it fits my theme very well. I added a large belt to the dress inspired by the ropes wrapping the cloth around the middle.

Design twenty four

To create this design, I was inspired by objects used in witchcraft and magic. The skirt of the dress was inspired by the pieces of cloth tied to a bucca I really like the layered and floaty look and I feel this fits my theme well. The top was inspired by the single tine antler prickers used in weather magic, I enlarged the top bit of the antler so it looks more avant-garde. I feel this design fits my customers style well.

During my research I was inspired by famous witch Isobel Gowdie. Her story was really interesting and I later went to Cornwall and visited an exhibition based around her and some of her confessions.

This video is the starting process of making a prop that I wanted to use in my photoshoot however due to how big this is and how long it was taking to do I couldn’t use it. If it works I will use it in my exhibition.

When I completed the designs for the first two design boards, I laid them out to see how they would fit and the places for them however as I’m doing illustration, even though I had changed the pose I felt they still weren’t good enough, so to add more interest and dynamic on them I made one design from each board much larger. I really like how they turned out and I’m glad I changed it as I am a lot happier with them now and I feel they fit my choice more for illustration.

These were my original sizes of designs next to each other however not all were completed at this point.

Here I was testing different layouts of my bigger designs as I didn’t like all the small ones together. I decided not to use this idea as I felt it looked too crowded and not as eye catching.

This is the smaller design next to the bigger one and I definitely like the bigger one better for this as I can see the details on the top much more clearly.

These are the layouts of my final design boards and I am much happier with them this way as they look a lot better and suited towards my path choice.

When completing my garment these are some samples of the techniques I used to construct it

Closed Seam

I chose this seam when constructing my garment as it is simple, effective, strong and looks good/neat. For the example I didn’t overlock it because I didn’t on my garment, the reasoning for this is because everything was lined none of the seams were visible.

Top Stitch

I chose this technique to use on my cape as I like the way it looks when on a finished garment and it looks neat and tidy. I added it to the long edge of my cape to close the gap and beaten where it had been folded and I feel that this was the best choice of stitch.

Hem

I chose to use this hem on my final garment’s top skirt as I feel it looks neat and gives it a nice finished edge.

Eyelet

For my garment I wanted a lace up back so I had to use eyelets for this. I really like how they look and feel they give the garment a nice finish.

Slip Stitch

For some areas of my garment, I used a slip stitch as they are neat and can’t be seen when sewn. I feel this was the best choice of stitch as I had placed on my garment that showed lost of sewing and needed covering up without seeing lots of stitches. I like how this stitch looks as it gives the garment a nice finished look.

Photoshoot at cannon hall

Makeup practice before photoshoot. I wanted a dark golden colour to match the dress and theme.

This is my final finished garment and I am very happy with how it turned out.

(The pink ribbon was for testing the lacing as I didn’t have the right colour at the time)

For the bodice of my dress, I chose a - material to match my colours of my design I also like the way it looks when the light catches it. For extra detailing I machine embroidered a pattern from my research to the front also adding french knots to finish it off. As the fabric I chose was quite flimsy I interfaced it first to give it more structure. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Due to a lot of my research being about Cornish witches and witchcraft, I visited Cornwall to see the places most inspired by magic and witchery. While there I visited the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic.
