“Well I guess there’s some good in you not hunting her. I’d hate to have to be the one to claim her soul. No I don’t choose who dies I just choose whose worthy to go to Valhalla. You can die a warriors death but if you were a terrible person you don’t belong in Valhalla. Well maybe if you ask nicely I’ll see about getting you a custom made one as a present.”
“Loads of offense here, but I don’t think anything about this bitch is worthy of anything but being doused in a bottle of sanitizer and then gasoline and then set on fire. That’s the death of a pussy.” Corey points out, chuckling. “My mothers didn’t teach me manners so I don’t know how to ask nicely or do anything nicely.” That was a lie, she was just selective with what she retained.
“I’ll wait until the summer to agree with you.” Ruben chuckled wrapping his hands on his chest as if wanting to keep some of the warmth from seeping away from his body. “Although, yeah, sweat isn’t that nice either.” He nodded scrunching his nose as well, repeating her face. “If I could I would spend most of my day in the hot tub of water.” Ruben confessed smiling warmly at the thought. He wished he could just go back to his apartment… “But I’m happy we’ve met.” He opposed at her suspicions. “Nothing really important waiting for me.” He sighed and went back to drinking his coffee, his glare coming back to her after another moment. “How long are you staying?” He shrugged gently, not wanting to seem too curious. “Is it just a day or two… or?” He smiled waiting for her answer to continue. He could use some company and she didn’t seem that bad, even if their lives were completely different.
“Spring isn’t so bad. If you’re waiting until summer are you gonna be finding me to let me know how you feel about it or is it on me to track you down for your opinion?” Corey asks, arching a brow slightly at that. She scrunched up her nose with the mention of sweat because there was really no way around that being unpleasant but seeing him scrunch up his nose to repeat it made her chuckle lightly. “If I’m keeping you from a hot tub I’ll feel horrible because no amount of fries would be able to compensate.” Fries were good but a hot tub was above their league, hands down, though she finished off the jist of the fries fairly quickly without actually being rude or anything. “I don’t really have a set time. I like seeing my mothers and my siblings but I like being away too so I could be back home in minutes flat the moment I’ve had my fill of family.” It wasn’t an exaggeration but the hybrid didn’t need to disclose that she what she was and it was fine being a vague overzealous comment. “Depends on how interested I stay in things around here, really.” She answers simply. “City is busy and seems fun but there’s a lot of people and people like to plow over others on the sidewalks.”
“Hunting, huh..?” Somehow she didn’t seem a threat to him. Still the word brought the bloody meaning to it and a shiver ran down the demon’s back. “I don’t like woods.” He confessed, keeping the subject of their conversation pleasant and casual. “I prefer warm places.” He raised his coffee gesturing around, meaning the diner. He took another sip before answering her question. “I am the kind of genie.” Small chuckle left his lips. “If my clients want me to make their wishes come true, they just let me know.” It wasn’t a lie really. Only the currency in the deal mattered. He sighed leaning back in his seat comfortably. “I hope you have a nice time in town, even if you don’t like it and the fries are hard to get.”
“I only hunt dinner. Or problems.” She nodded to back-up what she’d said, answering him with that gesture. “Not even in the summer? It’s not always cold.” She points out, smiling a little. “Wait until it hits one of those hot days and then the woods are much better than walking around in the heat of other people’s body sweat.” Corey scrunched her nose up, wanting to shudder with the thought of the congestion in the city. Her brows knit curiously as he spoke, typical of most businessmen in the way he worded what he did for work. She wasn’t by any means uncomfortable with the vagueness but then she wasn’t really uncomfortable by anything and she picked at the fries. “They’re not usually hard to find, I just picked a bad place to start. Thank you, though. You don’t have to stay if I’m keeping you from anything.” Cities made her feel trapped, closed in, caged; something the hybrid couldn’t stand but she liked exploring and knowing her surroundings too, even ones she didn’t like.
“Yup. She never really made much sense. Well we all have our hobbies I guess. Hmm close but not quite. I’m a Valkyrie, a chooser of the slain and all that fun shit. I claim the souls of those who die a warriors death and bring them to Valhalla. I don’t have a scythe but I know someone who does. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you wanted to take a look at it.”
“I’ve gathered at least that much. She can enjoy that all on her own. I’d love to hunt and kill her but ya’ll just make me pity her as a weak creature and there’s no challenge in that. It’s like hunting prey that’s already bleeding out and dying. So you choose who dies or you just collect them once that’s set in motion? Badass. I want to hunt with one. Imagine taking down a moose with scythe.”
