Watch this movie!
The production value couldn't have been very high but the movie was funny, smart and had good character development.
Very excellent! Would watch again and again.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
I am loving everything about this show.
Pacific Rim
The visuals were awesome!
The plot was predictable.
The acting was decent.. Nothing spectacular.
See this movie if you like predictable monster movies. Don't see this movie if you want a quality movie experience
Arrested Development (season 4) (spoilers)
I’ve been excitedly waiting along with everyone for the newest arrested development season.
My love for the show (actors, writers, cameramen, coffee fetchers, Netflix.. ANYONE INVOLVED IN ANY WAY) has grown exponentially. I read not long ago that the viewer should watch in small chunks of no more than 4 episodes at a time. I didn’t pay that any attention. I watched all the episodes in 2 days. Then watched them all again over the following 3 days.
Fans of the show are familiar with reoccurring jokes. This season takes the overlapping action to another level. (spoiler alert) the episodes overlap beautifully. Things that happen in the background or that seem insignificant at the time come back in later episodes as major plot points.
Some of my favorite gags from this season: George Maharris Maeby’s story line is incredible George Michael doesn’t know Lucille 2!
Season 4 is a testament to the amazing writers of the show. The seasons build on one another and fully reward loyal watchers with subtle and smart humor.
This season demands to be rewatched! If you haven’t watched arrested development yet then you are very much missing out.
The Great Gatsby
I have not read the book so this is not the place to find a book/movie comparison.
The opening 20 or 30 minutes closely mirrored Moulin Rouge.
Similarities include:
A narrator, who is also writing the story
Text [from story] appears on screen
Discovering drugs (alcohol). then launching into a bit of a music montage about it
Meeting the female lead. then launching into a bit of a music montage about it
I was concerned that this would be Moulin Rouge without the actors joining in on the singing, but after the initial "remember this other awesome movie I directed" segment was complete I was not distracted by picking out similarities to Baz Luhrmanns previous work.
I was distracted by the amazing costumes! The costumes were colorful, the makeup was stunning and I couldn't concentrate on the dialogue at times because I was focusing so much on how to recreate the nail designs I saw.
There were lots of different film styles used in flashbacks and in aerial shots that kept in line with the unique eye of the director. I suspect the arial shots were done using a model town and stop motion animation a la Fantastic Mr. Fox. AMAZING!
I liked many things about this movie. I will be adding it to my collection once it is available.
Iron Man 3
Saw it at 9:00 tonight. Earliest possible time.
Tony Stark is the best! The first 5 minutes of the movie set up a wicked humor streak that continues throughout the movie. My favorite part of the whole movie is the relationship that develops between Tony and the kid (please forgive me for not knowing his name). I thought it was illegal to talk to children the way he talks to that kid is absolutely hilarious!
Without giving away spoilers: the last 20 minutes of the movie had me audibly gasping. The special effects masters really went all out for this one.
I would recommend this movie to everyone. Loved it! Would watch again, for sure!
The L Word
There's been a lull in movie posts because I'm watching The L Word. I just started season 4 and the show took a whole different direction. I'm going to keep watching because I like Shane and Jenni. I might put it on hold to rewatch arrested development for the umpteenth time.
Pulp Fiction
Just go watch this movie. I would not recommend this for my grandma, but maybe your grandma is cooler than mine.
The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games movie was great. There ARE differences between the book and the movie, none that I am prepared to go into detail about right now, but I loved how they brought the intensity of the book into the movie. Visually, amazing. The Districts looked good (the few we've seen so far), the training areas and the Hunger games themselves. I love how they depict everyone from the Capitol. Effie (shown here with the most unfortunate smirk I've ever seen) is the most visually entertaining character anywhere in cinema. So far I love the film interpretation of the book series.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Exclusive Teaser Trailer (by TheHungerGamesMovie)
I am very much looking forward to watch Catching Fire when it comes out! I loved the books (read them in less than a week the first time I read through them).
Oz The Great and Powerful
(I saw this movie in the theater the weekend it came out.)
I really enjoyed it. I liked the whole cast. It was whimsical and had the same tone as The Wizard of Oz. I realized part way through that we were watching the sister that got squished by the house in the beginning of The Wizard of Oz. It was fun getting the see the witch we just hear mentions of in the Wizard of Oz. I've read Wicked by Gregory Maguire which was adapted into a stage production. I'm sure a movie will be soon to follow. (i hope!) I've also read a few of the books in the Oz series by L. Frank Baum and would LOVE to see more of these combined to make movies about the great land of Oz and all its inhabitants.
Back to the movie at hand.. I loved it! It looked awesome, the cast was awesome. See it! If you liked the Wizard of Oz or ever wondered what happened in Oz before Dorothy arrived, SEE THIS MOVIE!
Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2
Watching Kill Bill 1 & 2 in one day is my favorite thing to do. I've seen them both about 10 times and just keep loving each movie more each time I see it. This movie duo has something for everyone: crazy awesome fight scenes, a badass heroine, an amazing soundtrack, a little bit of romance, a lot of revenge. It's more Mary Poppins than Mary Poppins. ("Practically perfect in every way".... "anyone.. anyone??") Admittedly, I am a bit of a Tarantino fangirl (OMG HAVE YOU SEEN DJANGO, YET??) but his dialogue is witty, his cinematography is stunning and his casting is , dare I say, perfect.
Kill Bill Vol 1 focuses on The Bride and takes us on the beginning of her journey of revenge. The Bride decides not only does she need to kill Bill, but everyone in his band of assassins, the group she was once a member. As the title states, she wants to Kill Bill. What Bill did to deserve this fate is not fully explained until Vol 2 in the series.
Kill Bill Vol 2 continues to follow The Bride on her rampage. In some regards I like Vol 2 better than the first. Mr Tarantino rounds the characters so gracefully. It allows the watcher to gain insights towards the motivations of some characters.
Overall these are two of my all time favorite movies. If you haven't seen them yet, watch them! There is some blood... Ok there is a lot of blood in some spots. But I never found it grotesque. There are also a lot of curse words. It is rated R with good reason.
You should post more stuff about movies!
Good idea!!
Sassy Pants
Netflix has been recommending this movie to me for a few weeks and I finally decided to see why. I was not disappointed. Sheltered kid wants to go off into the world but mom isn't ready to let go or let up. It's basically predictable but worth watching. Anna Gunn plays the overprotective mom, June, perfectly. Her daughter Bethany, played by Ashley Rickards, was also perfect. But by far the best thing about this movie is Haley Joel Osment's character Chip. He was FABULOUS! If I met Chip in real life he would be my best friend. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would love to see a sequel (and I HATE sequels!) that shows us life away from home and the characters' changes.
I would not recommend this to my guy friends. I would just show them a scene or two with Haley Joel in them because he is FIERCE in this flick! Girlfriends and sisters and mom et. al. would enjoy watching.
PS (to movie execs): Make sequels of movies that deserve sequels!
Safety Not Guaranteed
I think this is the first movie made from a meme. The premise of the movie is that a news crew goes to investigate the claim of the meme. I was skeptical about this movie going in but Aubrey Plaza quickly set my doubts aside. SNG is a little sciency, a little mysterious, a little Hitchhikers guide-y, and really made me want to see the end. You don't really know what's what until the end, which is good. I would watch this movie again, would recommend it to friends and encourage everyone to take time to watch it.
Fight Club
Don’t talk about it, watch it. This movie changed my life the first time I saw it. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen it since. There are memorable quotes throughout. It’s haunting in a way that makes you keep thinking about what the fuck you just saw.
Thor
I didn't know what to expect from Thor. What I got was riveting action scenes meshed perfectly with humorous dialogue. Thor has some super moves with his hammer and I wouldn't mind seeing him shirtless again. (chest and arms, yum yum eat 'um up) Natalie Portman stole every scene she was in. She was the most captivating in this movie.
