"Research fields?"

"Ah, yes.  Research on monsters, people, fonons, fonon frequencies and the various other components of such, biochemistry, physics.  In my more early years I tried dabbling in technology, but grew disgusted rather quickly. I believe there was a rumor that I collected the bodies of those killed in war to run tests on~"

"I would strangle you where you stand if you weren’t so fucking important."

"Ah. Welcome to the city, Neku Sakuraba.  I do hope you'll prove to be an asset with your reconstruction efforts.  It would be a shame if we ended up having to use such excitable youth as cannon fodder."

"How the hell are you supposed to even dissect a zygote— Shouldn’t you be busy at the city borders anyway?!"

[corpsehunt]

"Oh, no.  I forgot about my post.  Whatever shall we do.  I think I can hear the infected breaking through the borders as we speak.  Are those the screams of the innocent as they're being bitten and maimed?  We should all run and duck for cover.  Who can save us."

[overrtower]

"So morbid! Were you a doctor or surgeon, Jade-san?"

[corpsehunt]

"Oh, no, no, nothing like that.  I did dabble in a few research fields in my youth, though."

[overrtower]

"Dissect… You mean like frogs? They sound more like people than they do frogs, though. Not once did I hear an angry person ribbit."

[corpsehunt]

"Ah, yes, I suppose people do dissect frogs quite a bit.  Amphibians are not the only creatures worth dissection, however.  You can learn quite a bit by slowly taking apart the bodies of once living creatures."

[fusionstar]

"If you’re elderly, then I must be a newborn zygote or some shit.”

[corpsehunt]

"Didn't we just cover this?  If you didn't think I was elderly, you probably would have refrained from commenting on my ability to protect you from the infected." The man slightly sighs. "But yes, of course you're a newborn zygote.  All the better for me to dissect."

[fusionstar]

Holy shit. “Only in my thirties” is like, twice Neku’s age. This guy is old as balls.

"I couldn’t care less about your hair, honestly. Can you actually hold them off is what I want to know."

[corpsehunt]

"Well, I'm still quite alive standing in front of you holding your bike.  I'm not sure if there is any better answer than that.  Unless you would like to attack me and test for yourself~ But then I'd have to arrest you for bullying the elderly."

[fusionstar]

Muttering under his breath, “They might mistake your graying hair for a ghost and just pass you over, anyway…”

[corpsehunt]

"Grey hair? But I'm only in my thirties, my hair isn't grey!" Yep.  He heard that.

[fusionstar]

"That’s a bad joke, right? What’s a fragile old man like you doing being a nightguard?”

[corpsehunt]

"It's such a sad tale!  All the young ones are too terrified of the creatures to face them, leaving us old fragile folk to protect the entirety of the city."

[fusionstar]

"I hope you fall over and break your hip anyway."

[corpsehunt]

"Now, now, I doubt you would want one of your precious nightguards to break their hips.  Unless you are willing to replace me, of course~"

[overrtower]

He flexes and throws a punch at the air to demonstrate. His form is all off and his weight isn’t backing the strike, but he has the girth to afford a few mistakes in technique.

"Yes! I know how to defend myself." And then the tone of his voice shifts into one of awed fear and respect, "That sounds so scary…"

[corpsehunt]

The colonel watches the punch, but doesn't comment on the lack of form.  His smirking expression doesn't budge an inch.

"Good, good~  We always need more people who can defend themselves. Scavenging is quite the important job."  His eyes close, momentarily, at the change in the other's voice. "I've grown used to them.  Their bio-molecular structure interests me more than anything.  Perhaps one day I'll have the means to capture and dissect one~"

Lo and behold— the dingy old blue bike makes an appearance. In the other man’s hands, no less.

"If you’re going to steal a bike, at least ride it, you asshole!”

[corpsehunt]

"You want such an old and fragile man like me to ride a bike?  I could throw my back out! Maybe I would fall and break a hip!  It's much safer to simply walk the bike." 

[overrtower]

"Yes. That’s what I signed up for. I think it’d be safer if they sent me outside instead of someone less durable. You defend the gate, right?"

[corpsehunt]

"'Less durable' is a peculiar way of putting it.  Are you skilled in combat?" The man shifted a bit, though his red eyes remained resting on the masked boy. "Yes, yes.  I get to make contact with those lovely creatures almost daily."

[fusionstar]

"I’m pretty sure I left my bike here before I left." Dude what the hell, stupid thieves.

[corpsehunt]

"Hmm.. I'm pretty sure I saw a monkey run off with it about five minutes ago.  It's quite a shame. You just missed him~"

[overrtower]

He stands up ramrod straight at that. Atten-hut! There will be no mess on Clear’s watch. “Sir! I can cook, clean, and even sew if needed. I would make the perfect housewife! Or at least a decent roommate.”

[corpsehunt]

"I'm glad to hear that.  I'm sure we wont have any issues then." The man slightly chuckles and eases into the chair at his desk.  "I hear you're part of the scavenger force, is that right?"

[overrtower]

"Ah! Okaerinasai~! Welcome home, Jeido-san. Did the mayor tell you that I would be staying here with you? I don’t take up very much space.”

[corpsehunt]

"Ah, yes. You must be Clear." A slight smirk plays on the colonel's lips. "I hope you're good at cleaning up after yourself.  The last person who lived with me was so messy he mysteriously disappeared one day into his own clutter~"
