You weren’t particularly excited to hear King Kuma’s voice echoing through the halls again.
“Iiiiiit’s time! For everyone to get to the courtyard again!”
“Remember, if you don’t show up, I can punish you!”
With that addendum, it was hard not to comply, so you found yourself and the others drifting into the courtyard. Some took longer than others, but that was only natural. At least it didn’t look like anyone else had died yet.
“Allll right! Is everybody ready to go?”
“Maybe not everybody, after the fire-head’s final stunt, but...”
“I have another quest for you all! Today we’ll be having an archery competition!”
“I know we won’t all know what we’re doing with a bow and arrow, but that’s okay!”
“If you miss, the worst you can do is kill somebody!”
“Having teams seemed like fun last time, so I’ve set up more! A few of you are even exempt from the competition! I suggest you stay away from the targets set up behind me...”
King Kuma lifted a paw and seemed upset when you weren’t sure what that meant. He then looked at his lack of fingers, huffed, and let it fall back to his side.
“You’ll all get three arrows to make your shots! And don’t worry, I made sure to get some bows that even you weaklings can use.”
He cleared his throat before spinning and wildly gesturing at the nearest target.
“The center area is worth 50 points! The next ring is 25, and outside of that is 10! Failing to hit the target at all gets you -5 points per shot! So you’d better try your hardest if you don’t want your teammates at your throat!”
“Not that I’d mind that!”
He pointed you to the bows and arrows at either side of the range, the line at which you were to stand while shooting, and a display on your save menus to keep track of each team’s scores.
“Oh, and since we didn’t have that high of stakes last time, I thought I’d change that... This time, if you lose, you’ll be locked out of your dorms... permanently.”
“Good luck getting a good night’s sleep when anyone could walk up and kill you!”
