The first chapter was finished with a gruesome execution.
She was sitting in her living room, reflecting on the recent events.
While others were disgusted and horrified at the public execution of a young girl, she only felt the increasingly cold air. When players gagged at the sight of the body, she was one of the first to approach it. And as she watched one of her friends cradle her dying father, she felt nothing.
How has nothing changed? Her circumstances were much more intense but yet, she only felt perpetual emptiness. Was she this far gone already? At this point, it seemed that even the snakes had more humanity than her.
She hated this. Why wasn’t she allowed to just disappear after dying? Or become a new person entirely? Why? Maybe it would be better if she just ended it herself-
Knock knock knock.
She raised her head and looked at the door. Who could that be? It definitely wasn’t Samael and nobody else knew where she lived to her knowledge...
“...Satou-chan?”
That voice. She knew that voice. She jumped her feet and scrambled to the door, turned the lock and pulled it open. The person standing in front of her was someone she thought she would never see again.
“Satou-chan....”
“S-Shio-chan?” Her knees gave out at the sight but she managed to keep herself from falling on her face. “Is i-it really you?” This could just be a cruel trick by one of the snakes to torment her. But she couldn’t stop herself from reaching out to her, her hand shaking.
All these thoughts would vanish when Shio held her hand and their fingers laced together.
“Don’t cry, Satou-chan. You’re a lot prettier when you're smiling.” With her other hand, she began to pat the top of the pinkette’s head. “Good girl, good girl.”
“Uuu...” It really was her. There was no question about it. Wrapping her arms around her, Satou began sobbing uncontrollably while Shio resumed her patting.
