cw shows truly were one of the best way to adapt comics into live-action. multiple seasons with many episodes, with enough time to develop the main character’s civilian identity / supporting cast / etc. these shows thrived on drama, much like comics do. they weren’t always perfect. but unless your favourite character is oliver queen, then you have a pretty decent show of your favourite character.

If people want a more morally grey/complex Superman who's less sure about his idea of justice and the value of life we already have that and her name is Supergirl. (hypothetically)
She's witnessed so much death and suffering, it's just obvious she would hold some resentment for humanity in some way. Why should she, as one of the last of her people, put her life on the line for humanity when no one came to save her or her planet. Especially since she's saving humanity from itself most of the time.
How would her brutal experiences with the deaths of everyone she's ever known change how she values life? How would her trauma affect her morality? Would she resent Clark for his lack of suffering?
There's so much to unpack with her but because she's a young woman she often just gets characterized as a peppy, sometimes reckless or bratty teenage girl.
One thing I especially loved about Supergirl is that they didn’t make her have a “sexy” or “sensual” scene that shows off how stunning and desirable she is. Obviously Milly Alcock is beautiful, but the fact that they let her be and stay a mess and have her ugly, unattractive moments inside of her grief really made the movie feel real to me.
Even in the screen caps where she’s having her big superhero moments and she’s shown in her suit for the first time, she’s not being sexualized when many other movies would’ve taken this opportunity to do so. Her suit gets to be form-fitting with a fun skirt without being a skin-tight sexy number. It’s so incredibly refreshing and forces viewers to respect her strength as a character and not just view her as the dominating woman of their wet dreams.
characters that fight sloppy ON purpose characters who fight to FEEL something characters who think every bruise is DESERVED characters who INTENTIONALLY pick fights for that reason

people think the show damaged supergirl’s reputation, but the real issue is the pushback from people who didn’t get the version they wanted. the show ended years ago, yet people are still complaining. they act like the show was to supergirl what the snyderverse was to superman, which is ridiculous. it's insulting to this version of supergirl to even say that. the adaptation wasn’t one-to-one, but it was still hundreds of times more faithful to the comics than anything snyder did. the show took liberties with kara's civilian life, but the supergirl stuff are pretty similar to how she's in the comics.
now supergirl gets painted as some angry, ruthless anti-hero, and not because that’s who she is, but just to be the “opposite” of the show’s version and of superman. but kara has always been a traditional superhero. she values kindness, compassion, and protecting life at all costs. that’s been true since her very first appearance, and it’s still true now. she’s never been an anti-hero. never been a vigilante. she's always been a hero through and through. the comics show that, the original movie showed that, and so did the show. if you actually consume supergirl media beyond skimming every third page of her new 52 run, you’ll see it for yourself.
i'm not actually responding under any of these to correct them, just blocking or ignoring and moving on with my day, but:

All things considered, Candace Flynn may be the best portrayal of a teenage girl in media
slightly annoyed always surrounding how everyone thinks minors can’t be surrounded by anything explicit ever. bestie think back to middle school when people drew dicks on everything and talked about fucking out in the open and thought everything was an innuendo. and you turned out fine! i turned out fine! i get that it’s important to protect kids up to a certain age but at a certain point the children are going to start seeking it out themselves. something something puritanism something something isolating children from the rest of the world even further
people in this fandom will really say some of the stupidest, braindead things for internet points and to show off how good and perfect they are to all their friends while actually being some of the most vile, insufferable, judgmental people to be around without understanding the kinds of stuff they’re saying at all whatsoever. it really takes my all not to get into discourse to be fully honest.
Gonna sound harsh but I don't care, I actually have no patience for any fans of TADC who refuse to feel sympathy for any one of these characters. This goes for both Jax haters and Ragatha haters. I have no interest in your interpretation of any part of this story if you refuse to understand any one of these characters past surface-level.
(and this goes double for people who think Pomni is a boring audience stand-in.)
I'll forever be angry at the Young Justice cartoon for the simple reason that it makes navigating fandom harder.
You have a one character overlap in these series: Kon/Conner Kent. Their personalities are strikingly different and their character arcs deviate immediately. Everyone else is a completely different cast that originate from different teams (ex: Dick is from the Titans, which formed years before YJ) so by the time the actual YJ characters are introduced seasons in, they're little more than side characters with no personality.
The series' overarching plot has nothing to do with the original comic run. It is tonally different, focuses on different villains, and wants to be a Serious Teen show instead of a campy episodic lineup of disaster teens left unsupervised.
Basically, DC took the name "Young Justice" and slapped it on an Angtsy Teen Titans reboot. Because of that, I have to sift through hundreds of fics that aren't labelled with the right YJ tag just so I can find the right Kon El. Or, god forbide, Empress and Slobo (my beloveds) who have basically been abandoned by DC.
The kicker? I literally would have no issue with this show if they had just PICKED A DIFFERENT TEAM NAME.
the thing i want to say to people all the time, but never do, is that if you spend 12 years brushing your kid off and/or making it clear you don't care what they're talking about, why would you expect your now teenager to talk to you openly?
so many people want the benefit of a good relationship with their soon-to-be-adult child while putting in zero effort on their side to achieve that
I love it when kids are actually written like kids (a little stupid. a little cringey. they do things that make the audience, mainly adults, a little pissed off. maybe it's not "a little" in a lot of situations) in media, and then the audience hates them for it and call it bad writing.
especially fucked up kids. like. kids who were neglected their whole lives. and then they act like little fucked up deliquents. or are a little off kilter. or act a little attention seeking. or a little desperate for a speck of affection from the wrong hand cause it's the only one offering.
