concept: nick clark, but not dead anymore

nick has a flip phone and his mom family coerced him into making an instagram he can barely use. as a result, he has five photos on it: two of his family and three from a photography class he took in college before dropping out ( he named the collection ‘ modern D.K. ’ ). his bandcamp link leads to nowhere.

some information about nick’s “ zombie ” verse

it isn’t so much that nick is immortal as he is a carrier of a different strain of the virus that lives in everyone. in a way , it’s poetic irony , isn’t it ? not quite living , not quite dead – feels like that’s how nick’s always been

he looks dead – but not quite rotting. this is a combination of the strain’s effect as well as nick’s own attempts at reducing decay

he has a theory that he could jump start the systems in his body that have shut down , but without someone with medical training / the right equipment , it seems unlikely he’ll ever know

the dead recognize him as one of them , so now his only threat is the living , but , uh , what’s new am i right ?

his voice sounds rougher , like he has strep throat and his movement is generally stiffer

the most  decay he’s experience is from his festering chest wound ( love that for him ) , so he does his best to keep it covered and contained

I’m keeping nick separate , but i’ve decided to once more take a crack at a multimuse , except this one is STRICTLY horror or things that feel horror adjacent. i don’t have an icon yet , but i swear it isn’t a spam blog.

reasons nick’s arc should have led to him being immune to becoming one of the dead / immune to turning fully:

ftwd was a look at how the world turned , watching the chaos unfold – how poetic if this were the series that pointed to a potential “ cure ” or way beyond simply adapting / surviving ??

we’ve seen so many pieces of media where a main character who deals with substance abuse / suicide / mental illness dies and people acting like that’s a “ natural ” progression and FUCK THAT !!!!! imagine the power of ftwd for being like , psych , this character who has danced with death for so long actually has within him the source of life and living through what no one else can

GOD JUST ALL THE “ FORSHADOWING ” OF NICK WALKING AMONG THE DEAD WITHOUT BEING ONE LIKE IMAGINE THE PARALLEL GIFSETS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE QUOTE “ I MOVE AMONG THEM , MOM. INVISIBLE. I WILL NOT DIE ” !!!!!!!

have you been sleeping any better ?

           no. the answer is no. when she’d first found him , he’d slept for so long. days , maybe. he never asked. but ever since then , it was like his body rejected the very idea. every time he closed his eyes, the darkness turned his thoughts to venom. body convulsing. skin hot and frozen. it was the closest thing to withdrawal he’d ever felt , a sickening purge that kept him in a limbo state. sometimes , when the sun was still up , his heavy eyes would close , and for a couple minutes something like sleep would take him away. but it never lasted. not long enough to count.

but despite all of that , he smiles at his mom and with a nod, lies. “ yeah , i have. ” he nudges her then , eyebrow raised. “ what about you ? ”
