Echoes of Silence || Seunghyun - Isaiah
This friend thing, it was taking Seunghyun awhile to get back into the swing of it, but heâd like to think he was doing okayâor, at least better than he was. After all, if he wasnât doing any better, would he be outside of Isaiahâs apartment this late with bags filled with food, weird games, and liquor in hand in order to try to cheer him up? As of late, the other man had been kind of silent, ignoringâor barely acknowledgingâall forms of Seunghyunâs attempted communication. Yeah, heâd been the silent type when they met, but once they began to come to know each other a bit more, Isaiah really seemed to open up, and given the fact that they worked together, they saw each other quite a bit. And even with the slight language barrier between them, the two of them got on well, talking about everything under the sun that they could possibly manage, even going as far as checking out women together during their lunch breaks. Even though, if Seunghyun was forced to be honest with himself, heâd done more staring at Isaiah than any of the women that passed by. But he couldnât allow himself to dwell on those thoughts much, despite the fact that they constantly bubbled up to the surface of his mind. It was strange, the feelings he got when his mind crossed over Isaiah, or when he looked at him. It was strange and he just didnât understand it. And honestly, part of him didnât want to. Though, that was probably out of fear. And strangely enough, not out of fear of the judgment of others, but the judgment of his father, of that voice that continued to linger, ringing out loud and clear in the back of his mind.
Those specific fears were quick to be pushed out of Seunghyunâs head however while he continued to stand there, alternating between repeatedly pushing the buzzer to Isaiahâs apartment and increasingly worried sounding texts and calls, calls that always went to voicemail after it seemed to ring for an eternity. Isaiah always answered unless he was working, and Seunghyun knew for a fact that heâd gone home, that he had to be at home. Even if heâd fallen asleep, the man woke up and answered him. Thatâs just how he worked. Isaiah was diligent through and through. Something had to be wrong, Seunghyun could feel it in his bones.
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: Isaiah. Let me up. }
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: Are you okay? }
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: Please answer⊠}
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: I swear Iâll punch you if Iâm worrying about you for no reason. }
All of Seunghyunâs messages were beginning to sound the same, just repeats of themselves, broadcasting that same faint, open-ended hope that Isaiah was okay, that heâd answer him and call him some name or other and tell him he was stupid and annoying for texting and calling him so much, that heâd tell him to shut the fuck up and go home. Something, anything. But those messages never came. And instead of continuing to try, Seunghyun found himself resorting to the next best thing; pushing all the buttons in hopes that someone would let him in. But even that felt like a hopeless, last-ditch effort as he frantically slammed his hand down over them again and againâand again, until finally⊠The door buzzed and that fateful little clicking sound reached his ears. Seunghyunâs eyes widened, staring at it for a split second before instantaneously reaching forward, practically jumping to open it, not wanting to give it a chance to lock itself again and put him back through that hell. Not to mention, he didnât feel like having the whole building hate him and remember him as âthat annoying door buzzer guy.â Thatâd be some nickname, wouldnât it?
As amusing as it was, Seunghyun couldnât even bring himself to laugh about it when he shoved his way into the elevator, hissing to himself when he hit the button for Isaiahâs floor a little too harshly with the tip of his finger. That awkward feeling was quick to be forgotten however, seeing as within the next instant, Seunghyun was digging his phone back out of his pocket, fumbling with it for a moment before shooting another text message to Isaiah, glancing up at the changing floor numbers impatiently in between every couple of words.
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: If youâre with a girl or something, you better tell me now. Iâm coming up. }
The elevator dinged and the shining metal doors slowly slid open, allowing Seunghyun through, briskly walking towards Isaiahâs door, blindly texting him for the seconâbillionth time.
{ sáŽs †ÉȘsáŽÉȘáŽÊ: Alright, you can thank me later for ruining your moment then. }
He hit send just as he reached the other manâs door, staring at it with a small, yet somewhat drawn-out sigh. Seunghyun suddenly felt like a moron. What if Isaiah wasnât even home? What if he had a life that he didnât want Seunghyun to be a part of? Maybe he liked parties or something and he didnât want Seunghyun to know? He doubted it, but his sometimes hesitant nature tried its best to force him to believe otherwise. Seunghyun wasnât about to let himself be fooled by it though, not this time. Even if he were to look like a complete imbecile, at least he wouldâve been a good friend, right? At least he wouldâve worried about him and fought to find out if he was okay in the end. One couldnât be too careful in times like these, Seunghyun knew that much at least.
After tucking his phone away, he instinctively raised his hand and began to pound on the door with the side of his fist, the deep vibrations of the wood practically chilling him to the core when no sounds followed them. So he knocked again. And again.
âIsaiah⊠Isaiah, god damn it. Open the fucking door,â Seunghyun called out loudly, leaning up against it slightly before knocking and calling out to the other man again. âIsaiah⊠Please. Even if itâs to hit me, open up.â There was nothing. There was nothing to answer him but the bone-chilling, gut-wrenching sounds of silence.
Life was a funny thing; chaotic and constant, right up until the moment it wasn't. No one had proper time to breathe, to exist; until they were filled with too many regrets and it was over. Some people genuinely wanted to live while others wanted to die. To cease their pitiful and short existences earlier than nature intended.
Isaiah was one of these few.

âNo, no, no, please---â
Isaiah laughed at the plea as it reached his ear, choosing to blatantly disregard it in favor of throwing more of his weight against the small woman in front of him; urging her up against the wall more securely. One of his hands slipped up to her throat, fingers wrapping around it in order to secure her position â pressing down harder on her windpipe when she struggled against him; a warning.
