I wanted to distract myself from reality by choosing which Jane Austen couples most closely parallel each Bridgerton pairing! Please don't yell at me when you see that a couple of these are quite a stretch :)

Kate/Anthony: The Elizabeth/Darcy parallels cannot be denied :) Rivals to lovers who initially position themselves as opposites but are actually extremely similar. Both couples feature strong, smart, highly opinionated and maddeningly stubborn characters who are ultimately willing to abandon their preconceived notions of each other and candidly reevaluate themselves along the way. In both cases, the male is more rigid while the female is more willing to think - and behave - outside the proverbial box. Kate/Anthony and Elizabeth/Darcy all even have at least one sibling to whom they're FIERCELY devoted. I could go on but will spare you!

Simon and Daphne - This is already getting harder, but I'll pick Henry and Catherine from Northanger Abbey. Daphne was always viewed as ordinary, just as Catherine was, and both begin the stories as naive young women rather clueless as to how they should navigate society and what romance truly is. Both women are curious (and more than a bit nosy :)), optimistic and somewhat emotional. Simon and Henry are both somewhat cynical and jaded, both have ghastly fathers and a few of the 'daddy issues' that come with it, and both are weary of the machinations of the ton and are drawn to Daphne and Catherine in large part because they can have 'real' conversations with them.

Penelope and Colin - Emma and Knightley is my first instinct here due to both embodying the "friends to lovers" trope. Both couples knew each other for so many years on an emotional and intellectual level prior to becoming romantically involved. Knightley and Colin, while very different, are both people who have high ideals when it comes to the people they love and take it hard when the people in question (including themselves!) fall short of those lofty standards. Emma and Penelope seem radically different at first glance - the alpha 'popular girl' vs the sensitive and shy wallflower - but both make various questionable choices that are driven primarily by feeling lonely and isolated. And, let's be honest, Emma would adore being Lady Whistledown :)

Sophie and Benedict: Okay, hear me out...Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill! (Chosen primarily because no other pairing seems to parallel Benophie to any remote degree) Frank and Benedict are both initially restless, impulsive pleasure seekers who have a secret romance with the more ethical, quiet and duty-driven yet secretly passionate women they fell in love with. So let's just politely pretend this comparison works :)

Fran and John - Sense and Sensibility's Edward and Elinor! In fiction, we tend to see Introvert/Extrovert or Extrovert/Extrovert romances, but both of these couples consist of introverts who crave a peaceful, quietly happy life. In both cases, there was an unspoken but immediate understanding that this was the person who understood them best and who they wanted to spend their lives with. Both enjoy a natural compatibility without having to change or sacrifice. And both consist of women who deeply love their families but also need some space from them to avoid melting down!
