Hey! I recently came across your stories on AO3 and I don't even know how to explain it, you have a very unique writing style. It's very sensory, magical and detailed... I don't think I've ever come across something like that before (at least in fanfiction!) And I wanted to let you know that you're absolutely brilliant and I always find myself coming back to read your stories again and again 🥹 Thank you so much for writing them ❤️
There's something I wanted to ask just out of mere curiosity (if you don't mind answering ofc). We usually learn from what we see and read, and I was wondering just what kind of authors you've read throughout your life that ultimately lead you to develop such a wonderful style! I'm asking because I'm curious and would love to look up their work (I need to read more beautiful poetry! 😭) Do you have any particular authors or works you love?
Sorry if this is something weird to ask, if you don't have any or if your style simply appeared as you started writing, that's totally fair! I'm just being curious.
Thank you so much for writing and sharing your stories. Take care! ❤️
Anon, I have no words to express how I feel, this is one of the loveliest messages I've ever received about my writing. Really, thank you so much. I've been sitting here for a while trying to come up with a coherent response because this made me so emotional I don't even know what to say 😭💖 I'm so happy that you like my work so much!
To answer your question, I'll try to put together a little list of works and authors that inspire me especially 🌸:
Federico García Lorca's entire life's work. I'm not all too familiar with the English translations, but I trust that there must be some good ones at least. If you're interested in poetry, that's my best recommendation. My favorite of his pieces is a very allegorical theatre play called Bodas de sangre (Blood Wedding).
Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. I first read this book when I was in college and I think it influenced my writing style a lot. If you enjoy sensory descriptions and short, thought-provoking pieces of poetic prose, you might like this one.
Miyazawa Kenji's Night on the Galactic Railroad. One of my favorite novels, it's a very special kind of enigmatic fantasy, very bittersweet and full of beautiful metaphors.
Anna-Marie McLemore's When the Moon Was Ours. Another one of my favorite novels. A beautiful piece of magical realism, written with so much care and sensitivity. I can't recommend it enough.
Off the top of my head, I think those are some of my strongest influences, though I doubt I can do them any justice! I hope you enjoy them if you decide to pick them up sometime 💖 And here's some special honorary mentions too, because why not: Patricia A. McKillip, Jorge Luis Borges, Irene Solà, Ursuka K. Le Guin, Ken Liu, Juan Rulfo.
Once again, thanks a lot for your beautiful words of support. I hope I can keep creating more stories for you to enjoy! Don't hesitate to ask any other questions, I'm always happy to chat.
Hope you have a lovely day, anon 🌸 Hugs!
