That’s it, we’ve come full circle… 4 years ago we became world champions. 4 years ago was the most beautiful night of my entire life, the night that I have been waiting for 12 years as a fan. All the highs and lows throughout all those years, the fighting, the hopes crushed, the lessons learned and the tears, all led to that night in Rio. Unsere nacht von vier stern… We reached the stars, and ever since that night I have never left the maracanã. My soul is still and forever there. Every day is a 13 july. I could swear 4 years haven’t passed by but 4 months… And on that night I had never ever thought how hard it would be to let go our crown, to give our place and our title to someone else… We still haven’t fully grasped that we had it that we already have to let it go. And some of us had even dreamed higher with the possibility of doing a back to back.., but reality hit us damn hard, with what may be the worst way ever to let go of a world champion title. But we have won together 4 years ago and we have fallen together this year. Jeder für jeden.

The one remaining thing that we will never let go is the 4th star on our shirt and the pride in our hearts.

Before the world cup picks up again I’d just like to let everyone know that the 12 boys and their football coach who’s been stuck in a cave in Thailand for more than 2 weeks are finally free and being given medical attention.

I feel like I should add that none of the parents of the boys blame the coach. He’s a 25-year old orphan who became a monk but left to go back to his home town to coach the boys. He kept the 12 boys calm through meditation and gave them his portion when the rescuers gave them rations until they got rescued.

honestly one of the best things grad school’s taught me so far is it’s okay to be wrong or admit you don’t know something. i used to be terrified and embarrassed to be wrong or not know the answer to a question. but now my boss says “i don’t know” all the time. i hear other professors go “huh that’s interesting i’ve never thought about that!” during lectures or seminars. i’ve witnessed nationally renowned speakers say “you know what, i have no idea” to hundreds of people in the audience. and when someone’s wrong they just go “i apologize. that’s my mistake” and it’s great. i have so much respect for people who can admit they don’t know or were wrong about something. because honestly any specialty in science is sooo huge and always changing and it’s just impossible to know everything about anything ya know? so not knowing something or admitting you’re wrong is a-ok and i love it.

I started learning so much more when I learned how to be wrong graciously, and accept that other people might know more than me or see something from an angle I haven’t
