Actually I’m a member of the League and uuuuh we DO have a member who can see the future. So we’re very well informed… on your future
Stay safe out there Jay… stay safe….

WELL. I spent my whole day undoing and redoing a very key part of the cosplay but I gotta say, I am very happy with it. I think this looks so much nicer and blends with the aesthetic I’m going for a lot better too.
Lmk what you think
I’ve decided to try to redo a part of this… WISH ME LUCK
Of course now that I’m almost totally done with this dumb thing I’ve seen several artist’s renditions of different ways to do it. And it’s KILLING ME that I can’t start over but we persist
We are nearing the end and I am NERVOUS. But let’s see what other updates I have.
The jacket front and back have patterns. Since the whole costume has a little bit of a “worn down” feel I haven’t decided if I want to leave the gold patterns on one layer so they’re slightly unfinished or not. I’ll make a decision today, though.
The Mino is mostly finished (it’s further than this I’ll have to take a picture later) and WOW was it a pain in my assholes. I hate this thing but it did come out looking pretty good.
I went back and forth on the shoes but I decided to cut myself some slack and just buy a pair of Tabi shoes. It was getting kind of intense trying to figure that part out from a fabrication standpoint. (They’re so comfy by the way)
I havent shown any of the progress on the arm and leg wraps I made but those are completely finished… the undershirt is a mess but it’s also almost done. By the end of today I’ll post all the individual bits and I HOPE be able to try the whole thing on. Just have to make sure everything is dry.
Alright. Sso I did a little makeup test and then I made a video about it
I definitely aged Jay up but that’s okay. He’s older now anyways.
My beautiful perfect amazing wife has helped me mark out the patterns on Jay’s jacket. I have been putting this off for months because I was scared to mess it up. It’s not done yet, but it’s looking SO GOOD
I forgot I also have some pictures of the progress on the MINO which I was SO worried about
So you can see in these first few how I was piecing things together. I bought some craft raffia, grabbed small clumps and folded them in half to tack them down, then went across the whole thing with a straight stitch in embroidery thread to secure it down. YES IT TOOK AN ETERNITY NEXT QUESTION
After I went across one row I was like... its not secure. So I had to make a second row because I dont want to shed all over the con??? obvously
and then because I just couldn't leave it alone.... I went back and put some Xs over the blue line for extra security. My hands cramped up something serious doing all this i swear...
Once I'd done all that, I freehanded the cutting after setting it on my form. This was crazy... but you can see how much better it looks in the photos below as opposed to the photos above. PRETTY COOL RIGHT????
AHA LOOK HOW GOOD HES COMING TOGETHER YALL.
I only threw all this on the mannequin to check something with the undershirt which is still in progress, but WOW I was blown away by how amazing it’s starting to look. Everything is half done right now, including the Mino, but I’m SO HAPPY WITH THE PROGRESS!!!
Here’s closer on the shirt and jacket without the shoulder stuff. Undershirt is not done either. AAAAA
COSPLAY UPDATE
hello all how are we. If anyone was wondering what happened to me, I apologize and I will explain:
We are 15 days away from San Japan and I AM still making the cosplay. The only thing is... I decided I hated the idea of competing with it.
I really want to compete in a cosplay competition eventually, but I got around the entry date in July and I got kind of overwhelmed by the requirements and keeping up with everything... I just didn't like it. I've never been good at keeping records of things and I was getting stressed realizing how much of a record i'd have to keep to qualify for the competition.
Aaaaand that leads to this blog... which I made just to keep records for that purpose. At first I was gonna abandon it, but actually I really still wanna share! So I'll post what I have but it'll probably be spotty. I love cosplaying, and i want to share and communicate so!! Thank you for sticking around (all ten of you hehe) and look forward to a completed Jay Walker soon!!!
ITS PANTS TIIIIIIIME
So ironically, even though the pants are probably the easiest part of the cosplay I have been putting them off for an eternity. What can I say I’m scared. So I cut the mock up for these days ago, with the exception of the middle part…
The plan is to recreate these pants (sorry they’re so dirty I have cats) and man it is harder than it sounds. The main body of the pants (excluding the waistband and ankles) is only 3 pieces. Two rectangles and a little triangle piece that goes around the crotch. Last night I made myself a little mock up, and it came out a lot better than I thought!
It’s kind of laying funny in the picture but I swear it lays flat. And I’ve tried them on and they fit perfect!! So I’m about to cut it out of the actual fabric and get to work.
I don’t know if I mentioned my sewing machine isn’t working rn so I am hand sewing everything. It’s kind of therapeutic and also a little frustrating ngl
I knew people were gonna follow me but I’m still scared,,,
Hi how are you all thanks for being here
I’m trying to keep up with what I’ve already done so that I can get up to what I’m doing now, so I’m gonna talk about these little chord things on Jay’s jacket let’s go.
Now. What in the hell are these. I don’t know. Originally, I had planned to use these little border things to make a smooth strip of gold to put around them, but then I was trying to sew bias strips around some weird trim and uuuuh. I raged quit real bad. I crashed out. I cried. SO I switched to just rope.
I think it COULD be rope. Realistically if it was actually rope it would have the texture and it doesn’t but that’s okay. We’re gonna let it slide unless I change my mind later.
So I went back to the craft store recently and picked up this rope trim, which originally was that pale whiteish color. There’s no way to make the rope metallic that I’m comfortable with, but we can still make it gold!! So I picked up some Rit dye and did some tests.
My first test was 3/4 marigold and 1/4 golden yellow which was waaaaaaaay too orange. So I did a second round with 3/4 golden yellow and 1/4 marigold, and produced the color in the middle. I think it’s PERFECT.
At this point, the jacket is already assembled and hemmed, but the dyed strips aren’t all the way dry, AND I have to wash the blue jacket once before I put on the chord, so all I have is the pieces right now.
I’m really happy with how it’s coming along : D
WOOOOOOW WELCOME TO MY FIRST POST ABOUT THIS FUCKASS JACKET
So the first thing I wanted to do with this cosplay was make this jacket. And man was it some kind of project. Oh my gods. It was kind of a nightmare.
Thanks to the fact that I have previously read this book and its siblings, I knew just enough to try and work out an outline for this. But using what I learned from that book requires M A T H which I detest. So, what I did instead was sort of like. Drape styling or whatever it is.
Behold. The two shirts I destroyed to produce my pattern.
I was gifted two shirts to cut apart for pattern making and picked the looser one to be my sample for the inside jacket. I cut the curves and shapes I wanted, then separated the shirts at the seams and traced those pattern pieces onto some brown wrapping paper to make my pattern pieces.
Once I had my brown paper pattern, I cut MORE pieces out of scrap fabric to do myself a little mock up… and it went horribly.
All things considered horribly is a bit of an exaggeration. It was wearable but predictably uneven. I had to redo several pattern pieces three or four times before it started to really make sense.
And once I polished it off, I could start on the actual thing!!!
