Letter to a "Friend"
Receiving a letter was something that Eileen wasn’t expecting at their stay at Insolitus, or life really. Everything had seemed to move to technology now-a-days and emails were so much easier and faster to send. Instant messaging even was a popular thing, being able to talk to someone at any moment right away was very convenient.
Opening the letter Eileen nearly froze as they began to read it. They didn’t even have to look at the signature, they knew exactly who it was from and it was a bit painful seeing as they never even got a goodbye from them. Regardless, Eileen leaned up against the door frame of their room and continued reading the letter.
Once they had finished the letter they make their way into their room, pulling out a pen and piece of paper, keeping the letter and envelope neatly beside them as they began to write their own letter back to their ‘friend’ that they would mail today.

Dearest Rain,
I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well in Germany, although I wish I knew that you were there before now. If you ever sent me a goodbye letter, I did not receive one…it seemed as if you simply vanished. Even so, I’m happy that you reappeared.
Something about writing letters does seem more intimate and honestly I’ve always pegged you for the old fashioned type. Letters suit you more than e-mails.
I do miss you, I miss you a lot admittedly. The loss of your presence as put sort of a hold on my social life, so rest assured, I have not even come close to replacing you. Although a little selfish as that was, it’s also nice to hear that you still care. In return I hope you have not found anyone in Germany to replace me? I might be a little jealous otherwise. Please relay this message to Khal for me: “I knew you liked me, you should just admit it already.”
Even if it was just for a day, I’d love if you’d come to visit. You always have a place to stay as long as I’m around. I think I’ll be around for a while. I’ve started to make some connections with the students. I started an anonymous counseling website that the students seem to have really liked. I’m reaching a much bigger audience than before and I feel like I’m doing more to help. I think Vighulir and Pivdone Misto are going to be put on the back burner for now.
Like I said before, you always have a place if you’d like to come back and visit, even if it’s to visit the city and not me. Haha.
Thank you for writing to me, it’s set me at ease to know that you’re okay.
Please stay healthy and happy,
Eileen
It was a couple of weeks later that Rain received a letter back from Eileen, but in truth, he was surprise, and very happy, that he even received one at all. He opened it as soon as he possibly could, his hands shaking slightly and heart pounding, despite Khal's mocking. Even as he read through it, once, then twice, and even three times, he found himself blocking those scoffs with the memory of Eileen's voice as if she was reading the letter directly to him.
He didn't reply right away, instead he took a few days to read it again a few times while also gathering a few trinkets from the town he was staying in to send to her.
Eileen,
I am so glad to hear back from you. I thought you might be upset with me for leaving, but I never thought you didn't get my note! Admittedly, I should have told you in person that I was leaving, but I just couldn't bring myself to face you with the sudden decision. But I did leave a small letter of explanation on your office door! Someone must have taken it or something. And for that I am even more sorry. I am happy that you are doing well, though. And making connections with your students too! That's great!
I suppose I should tell you why I left since you didn't get my previous letter. You see, after Valentine's Day, I just- it is hard to explain, but I never wanted you to see "me" like that. Khal is ruthless and I tried my hardest to stop him, to help him communicate with you and he simply wouldn't allow me to. Also, a part of me didn't want your psychologist side to come out and try to figure out why there is more than one of me. I felt like Valentine's simply might have driven a wedge between us and while that wasn't the only reason I left, it was the biggest.
I felt like since I had lost control once, he might come out again and when Khal is in charge, I often have no power. I don't know what he might have done to a student, or even to me. So I felt like taking time to myself and coming back here to Germany was the best course of action.
That said, I may come visit again some time in the future now that I feel more comfortable. And you, of course, are more than welcome to come to visit me here if you so wish! Thank you for your offer of a place to stay. I appreciate it very much.
Until the time I see you again,
Stay safe.
Rain xo
PS. I included a few things. A keychain and a postcard. The postcard is actually a picture my friend took of the sunset here. I wish I could watch it with you, it's truly amazing.
