Propaganda under the cut
Sal Mineo and Roddy McDowall with Henry Fonda at an event in New York (and a close-up of Sal and a cropped version of Sal and Roddy), photos by Art Zelin, 1970. The bottom right photo is a portrait of Sal taken by McDowall the same year. Sal and Roddy had a close relationship during the 1960s (the rumor-mill of the era suggested they were possibly more than "just friends") which ended soon after these photos were taken when Sal met young actor Courtney Burr III who he spent the last six years of his life with. According to Burr, Roddy disliked him immensely and tried to dissuade Sal from remaining in the relationship, disapproving not only of Burr but also Sal's public openness about his sexuality. Jill Haworth, Sal's close friend and occasional lover (and co-star in the 1960 film Exodus), later stated that she believed Courtney was "the love of Mineo's life".

The first time I noticed how drop-dead gorgeous Jill Haworth was, I was at the Smithsonian in DC, where they were playing an episode of The Outer Limits—“The Sixth Finger”—in the gift shop.
