notes on daniel matthews.
father, eric matthews, is the one to rescue daniel from police custody. daniel is shown on a bench with his arms crossed, obviously a reflection of a moody teenage boy. sarcastically remarks to father that it took him long enough.
store will likely press charges for daniel’s attempt theft. doesn’t seem to care much, calling the store owners “assholes.”
parents are recently divorced. mother is going to gain custody.
unresponsive towards father and doesn’t want to converse much with him. eric asks if he thinks he is a tough guy due to shoplifting nowadays.
sarcastically replies to save him the after school special lecture and angrily queries why he is such a cop 24/7. when eric responds that it’s called being a father, daniel states that he is better at being a cop.
definitely does not maintain a good relationship with father.
wants to go back to mother’s house early. alternates between her house and eric’s. is shouted at by father. doesn’t seem to be affected much, simply muttering “jesus.”
owns a car, so old enough to maintain a license.
eric smokes cigarettes and also drinks. probably does the latter more than occasionally.
answering machine notice is simple and to the point.
on monitor, is shown sitting in the corner instead of pacing about like the others. arms crossed and knees to chest,
john imagines that daniel is cowering in a corner.
eric immediately lashes out at john, cursing and ready to cause damage as he asks where daniel is.
daniel has two hours to live. after time is up, the gas creeping into his nervous system will begin to break down body tissue, leading to him bleeding from every orifice he has.
is aware that the type of cameras being used does not have sound. likely has knowledge on technology/is clever and has done well in academics in past.
has hand on side of neck. body language could reflect fear of the situation.
arms are crossed once again while amanda is freaking out. body language could reflect anxiety or guarding oneself.
begins shaking ever so slightly when amanda discovers the tape.
shakes head when tape is played and john’s voice comes on, as if in disbelief of the situation. shock.
jumps back in shock when man is killed but does not scream or panic.
becomes increasingly distressed. hand goes to back of head.
eric and kerry were romantically involved, leading to the strained relationship between daniel and his father and the divorce.
is participating in the search for an antidote. places a jacket over the head of the dead man, where brain is revealed.
bites lip and looks nervous and scared when door randomly creaks open.
helps an incredibly distressed lou up from her position of cowering in the corner. has a hand on her back in a comforting manner.
hands on hips. body language could indicate that daniel is ready and in control. probably not.
father was once considered a fearless police officer. now only does desk work.
while xavier tries to smash a hole through a door marked with the word “exit”, daniel sits on the staircase with knees to chest, shaking. is obviously in incredible distress.
queries which two people out of the group will get the antidotes.
is the one to notice the door. observant.
backs away when obi attempts to climb out of furnace but mainly looks shocked and numb.
has hands wrapped around head when obi dies. looks away from body and furnace but sneaks a glance.
now looks much more upset as group walks away but still appears to be in shock.
last thing eric ever said to daniel was telling him to leave.
“seems to me that the knowledge of your son’s impending death is causing you to act. why is it that we are only willing to do that when a life is at stake?” john to eric.
“my son appreciates his life.”
“but do you appreciate yours? do you appreciate your son’s?”
eric suffers from outbursts of anger. daniel most definitely has probably witnessed this.
walking with lou. arm is once again wrapped around her in a comforting manner.
when she sits down in the corner, he tells her that he doesn’t think they should stop. is concerned when she seems to be drifting off.
weakly laughs at her comment pertaining to waking up in the house.
tells lou that this is not the end. they will not die.
queries amanda about when she mentioned that she had previously survived one of jigsaw’s games. rolls eyes when she appears distracted and didn’t hear the question.
queries whether they all could survive if she did. hand goes to face. licks lips.
asks amanda why she was picked, placing a hand upon her shoulder. takes her arm when she tells him about her junkie occupation.
very curious and likes to ask questions.
has never been arrested before. been in trouble a few times (likely due to shoplifting) and in and out of things.
calls father a real hardass. hand once again goes to neck. comments that eric probably has half the city out looking for him solely so he can kick his ass for disappearing.
goes over to lou to help her up after being alerted of a discovered door. helps her walk.
is the one to uncover the needle pit. once again amplifying curiosity.
calls xavier sick for forcing amanda into the needle pit to find the antidote and asks what the fuck is wrong with him.
attempts to look away due to disgust but eventually goes over there. shouts that someone has to help her and is shocked when no one volunteers.
is the one to help amanda out of needle pit. carefully picks needles off of her.
“you’ve got juvie written all over you”
eric has planted false evidence to gain conviction before. has also shot down unarmed suspects.
once again seems to be solely in shock and numb while lou dies. he sighs.
defends amanda by saying that she knows what she’s talking about.
was once happy with father and had a good relationship.
