The night surrounds Ukraine as she rushes through the woods, cold trying to pierce through her skin, though the sweat underneath her hoodie and the blood rushing underneath her skin warm her up regardless. She holds the flashlight as steady as she can, though light still flickers and shakes through, the shadows twisting. She's not running as fast as she was earlier, though still hyperventilating.
She checks her phone again, just in case. Just in case Canada's phone comes through on the locater app, somehow. That last bit of hope is smothered and doused with water until it drowns. Her phone's still off, still at the same location, just like it was hours ago. Ukraine keeps walking, shining her light through the distance.
"Canada?" She yells. There's no answer, save for the echo of her voice as it travels through the woods. She keeps walking. There's a thousand different possibilities forcing their way into her mind, about where the hell Canada is. Based on how she disappeared, they're somehow all just as terrible as each other. Murdered. Tortured. Dismembered. Bile rushes inside Ukraine's body, just picturing Canada's own, after whoever kidnapped her has had their way with her.
"Canada?!" She yells again, this time louder. Again, there's no response, just the dead silence and the quiet, fleeting echo of her own voice. She yells even louder, again to no response, even as the strain in her voice hurts her. Nothing can stop her from yelling. "Canada?!" She checks her phone, to see if anyone's called, whether it be France or her own mother, but still no-one has. France is somehow even busier searching for her, as Canada is her daughter.
Ukraine stops, for a moment, wanting to catch her breath. She stares out into the wilderness, the light on her phone sharply illuminating it. Leafless branches hang from the trees, towering over her head, and nothing is in front. No-one is in front. Ukraine shakes and twitches wildly, her eyes bulging as she stares ahead of her. Canada is nowhere to be seen. Her girlfriend is nowhere to be seen. Her love is nowhere to be seen.
Ukraine sinks to the floor, not caring about the mud sticking to her grey tracksuits, and cries. Her head is buried in her knees, and she twitches as she sobs and whimpers. She doesn't even try to stop the thoughts, the possibilities, rumaging through her head. Her kidnapper having his way with her, tormenting her, torturing her to the best of his abilities, spilling blood as he whips her. What sort of person would kidnap a 15 year old girl?
She lifts her head, briefly, and sees someone in the corner of her eye. Her head shoots over.
Canada.
She's half-naked, wearing only her torn pyjama top, the cute design brutally contrasting the blood that's pouring on her skin. Her eyes are bulging open, staring at the sight of the taller, thicker Ukraine, who stands up and stares back at her. She smiles briefly, despite the fact that her mind's taking in the blood and cuts and bruises that are around her red skin, and the way she whimpers as she breathes out. Her heart pounds.
"B-Baby?" Canada whimpers, her voice weak, keening.
"Nada!!" Ukraine rushes towards her. She can't help it, even seeing the way Canada flinches, her hands flying up to protect herself. Ukraine's arms are stretched open, and she wraps her arms as tightly as she can around the smaller girl, and lets herself cry. Canada's crying, too, both from the pain and seeing someone she never thought she'd see again.
