If martyr Martell stans think that it’s racist to enjoy the Targaryens because of Elia or whatever, why aren’t they policing Lannister stans the same way? Tywin ordered Elia and her children’s deaths, Jaime failed to protect them, Cersei mocked Elia by saying that Rhaegar would’ve never looked twice at Lyanna if he’d married her instead, and Cersei and Jaime are disdainful toward the Dornish. Why aren’t they policing Tyrell stans? The Tyrells and Martells have a long history of rivalry and bitter enmity, not just because of the incident with Oberyn and Willas but all the way back to the Reach warring with Dorne before Aegon’s Conquest. The Tyrells are openly hateful toward the Martells, and Ms. Olenna herself has had plenty of things to say about The Martells. If Dany had said the things Olenna does, she’d be called a racist. Why aren’t they policing the Stark stans? Ned joined up with the people who got Elia and her children killed. Why aren’t they policing the Baratheon stans? They’re part of who got Elia and her children killed. 

Why is it just the Targaryens we should hate in the name of uwu loving Elia and the Martells uwu?

I can’t help but notice that Rhaegar is subjected to the same double standards that Daenerys is.

Rhaegar gets criticism for not defending his wife and children in KL. Rhaegar also gets criticism for fighting in battle and defending his family, because he was defending ‘Tyranny’. He can’t win, whatever he chooses.

There’s also a double standard where Rhaegar fighting for his family/standing by his family and house is evil and defending tyranny, but Ned Stark loving and supporting Robert Baratheon and Jon Arryn despite their rewarding the Lannisters for the sacking of KL, the rape and murder of Elia and her babies? Shhh, we don’t talk about that. We don’t talk about what the so called good guys did to innocent civilians…

In the books the Martells were plotting against Robert Baratheon and their allies! Those allies include the Starks! The secret marriage pact was to overthrow Robert and put Viserys on the Iron Throne.

Rhaegar entrusting a member of the KG sworn to protect and defend his family to do their job? Wrong! Poor baby Jaime was only 17! Why did the KG then hire Jaime considering he was such an itsy-bitsy little baby? No idea, surely not because he was one of the most skilled swordsmen amongst them.

EXACTLY. tyland lannister wanted him dead and aegon still visited him and hold his hand during his last moments. dany does the exact same thing as aegon: she takes care of sick people, touching them, washing them despite her advisors’ protests and when she sees a gruesome death she ‘feels almost sad for the usurper’ who was killed the same way, the person who hunted her down all her life and attempted to murder her unborn child. talk about ‘evil taragryens’ 🙄

Could it be a possibility for prophecy to be involved in why the first Aegon took the peace offer from the Martells after Rhaenys’s death? His hand was bleeding from the grip on the letter is an important detail or clue. Or maybe I’m looking too into it. Could he have told Rhaenys and she told the Martells if they tortured her? This - along with the book foreshadowing, GRRM’s statements and House of the Dragon - is yet another evidence that points to Daenerys being the prince(ss) that was promised and that hers is the song of ice and fire.

i never cared for rhaegar but i start to think that attempts at making him the worst guy in westeros aren't really about criticizing him but about indirectly making a jab at dany. dany is compared to rhaegar so much in these books and it's exclusively positive, so its a problem when it comes to those 'mad queen dany' or 'dany accidentally kills everyone' theories. he has to be made to be evil instead so that dany becomes evil by association too. does that make sense?

That is definitely part of why there's such a hatred for Rhaegar (despite the fact that he's also Jon's father, lol, but that's not enough to protect him because it's Dany who most resembles Rhaegar and follows in his image). It's also because people hate the Targaryens so much that everything they do is highlighted and singled out as exceptionally bad and abnormal for their time. So Rhaegar is somehow an exceptionally bad person for being a 24-year-old man who falls in love with a 16-year old woman, but they ignore that most of the other adult male characters in the MAIN TIMELINE do something similar (or worse). And the accusations of Rhaegar "being a racist" rest on the assumption that the Martells are unequiovically people of color, which continues to ignore that the enemies of the Martells, aka the people who've done them most harm, are the Lannisters, Tyrells, Baratheons, and Gregor Clegane + Amory Lorch.

Notice, for example, that if it's "racist" to like Rhaegar or Dany, why is it not "racist" to like Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, or Tywin? Or Olenna, Willas, Garlan, and Margaery? Or Stannis and Renly? If the idea is that it's "racist" to enjoy the Houses (and characters within) who are "enemies" of Martells (who are "poc"), then why does this exclusively apply to the Targaryens? Are the Lannisters, Tyrells, Baratheons now people of color too? Did they not harm the Martells? Do the Martells not see them as their enemies?

It's all part of this phenomenon of liberal identity politics oriented fandom "activism" which takes "critical capitalist consumption" as a form of ethical social justice. Capitalist consumption is rendered acceptable under neoliberalism if it conforms to specific parameters, such as identity and representation politics, so nowadays everyone can't read literature or watch film without looking for ways that they are problematic on an individual level (without looking at, for example, how these books or shows may be written by people funded by imperialist weapons manufacturing companies or finance capital companies). As has always been the case, people under capitalism use what they consume both to show off their supposed political awareness and pure morality and to reinforce their sense of morality/bourgeoise ethics on others. Only now this has taken on an identitarian form.

And also why is classism as a prejudice okay? Most of these people who engage in performative activism are big Sansa stans, a character who thinks like this:

Stanning for a character like Sansa who ‘feels sick’ just seeing a smallfolk boy, who sided with Joffrey sadistically mutilating Mycah, who is aghast at playing even a pretend bastard, the epitome of high society,  who thinks that poor little SweetRobin’s illness is cowardice:
