I gotta admit, the cold open that was her (and Hal) with her family really got to me, as someone with a large extended family. It felt like it rhymed with my childhood memories of family dinners with all my cousins, aunts, and uncles.

caleb and nott’s relationship is so convoluted imo bc they’re both projecting the people they’ve lost/failed onto each other while also trying to be someone new? like nott sees both yeza and luk in caleb (he’s a smart boy, he’s very capable, he will do great things, he needs protection), so she’s kinda weirdly projecting both her husband and her son onto him. caleb sees his parents, astrid, and eadwulf in nott (she’s a safe person, she’s a refuge, she’s his familiarity and rock when surrounded by horrifying things, he will make her proud), so he’s projecting both his parents and past lovers on her. but then they’re both kinda running away from the past or view their past selves as someone entirely different from who they are in the present, especially in the beginning of the campaign. so they also want the other to be something different entirely. am i making sense pls say yes

Every so often I come across a new Mighty Nein fan in the wild that has been mildly spoiled regarding the whole "Essek redemption arc" thing and it's always fun to see because you just *know* all they are expecting some fairly standard "power of friendship" scenario....

...But the truth is that nothing can truly prepare anyone for just how Freak4Freak the Mighty Nein/Essek were for eachother in the campaign. Like seriously these people were incapable of acting normally around anyone; thankfully it turns out the best way to win over a weird antisocial loner who is secretly trying to kill you, is just to be total freaks about the whole situation. Weird little evil freaks cannot resist the magnetic pull of a full freak friend group!

That whole theater show was beautiful. Liam being of Irish decent and Aabria being a black woman playing as a people who were oppressed and freeing the past souls of the ones who fought for freedom is fucking beautiful and why I watch shows like this.

Bolaire being protective of Demodus is very cute, I hope Bolaire becomes his warlock patron someday. Like, that's HIS illusion savant, and Demodus needs the free command thing Bolaire has to get people to treat him right as the Archmage of Timmony.

Last thoughts of the ep is I gotta address Liam saying "I'm looking for rumors. You think I'm going to be like, 'Cool, living mask. Got it, that makes sense.'"

After a nat 20 vs nat 1, honestly maybe yeah and if not, you definitely believe you can just ask the person who said they wanted to explain it to you but couldn't before? Like, that's what the nat 20 vs nat 1 was on very specifically, that Bolaire had always wanted to tell Hal and Thjazi made it so he couldn't. In this situation literally I would not look up a single word without permission, like that removal of choice to disclose is such an issue for me. I would be dying to know more and I would want to look into it instead of forcing him to disclose, but I wouldn't be going behind his back and being mad at him for letting me care about him because he's a mask. If I believe the reason I didn't know was someone else abusing him into silence and service on the basis of inherent inferiority, I'm not fucking blaming him for not telling me and getting mad???

And if the day after the person doing that died, he changed bodies, I'm assuming it's because he wanted to be free of the body that endured that person's abuse, and was maybe compliant in it or a part of that, and even so, Hal isn't looking for whatever body Bolaire dropped somewhere to get the new body or for who he might've taken next. The rumours he's looking for are literally Shapers Era rumours to confirm his biases against one of the weapons that killed a Shaper.

Like... HAL??? HUH???? YOU SAW SACRED MASKS AND ASSUMED THAT MEANT BAD BECAUSE THE ONES MADE BY THE GODDESS'S PRIESTS WERE BAD, BUT YOUR SHAPER WAS THE GOD OF WAR AND WAS KILLED WITH A SWORD FORGED BY THE SMITHS THAT MADE ALL THE WEAPONS OF WAR IN THE CITY RIGHT ON THE WARFRONT. HAL. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIM AND THE PARIAH BLADES THERE HAL?

Hal haterism is too strong in me, but also am I wrong? Explain how I'm wrong without dehumanizing Bolaire or suggesting he shouldn't be alive.
