ok i get that i am very late to the bridgerton game. but answer me something. why am i supposed to like penelope and want her to end up with colin? is he ever going to find out that it was her that wrote the article about marina? is marina ever going to find out that it was her? or do we just move past the fact that all she does is skulk around eavesdropping so she can write mean things about everyone else in town? i don’t get why i’m supposed to like her.

nothing about the unsteady and unstable ground between them felt like they'd broken even. what had happened to them, what they had been through, it wasn’t right… wasn’t fair. steve didn’t know where to start in trying to bridge the distance that was so foreign between them. he remembered more of his life than he had in months, and somehow felt even more like a stranger in his body as a result.

HE DOESN’T HAVE a right to feel hurt. He doesn’t have a right to feel betrayed. The things a man says or does without his memory are not indicative of who he is. Max had lost sight of that over the time he’d spent with Steve those first few weeks. He’d been foolish enough to think that they’d begun to build something, without bothering to remember who he worked for. The connection between this man and the shadowy government organization that had held him captive for months should have been obvious, but it wasn’t. Not to someone so bewitched by blue eyes and a fellow artistic soul. He sighs, leaning against the door. He’s tired. He doesn’t want to do this. ‘I know. Apology accepted. I forgive you.’ And still he mourns for what might have been.

She pinches his ankle again when she’s tickled, a threat and a warning. Jenna’s never been one that was able to take being tickled. “I would sure hope his intentions are in no way honorable. In fact I’d be downright disappointed if they were. You’re too straight-and-narrow, do-gooder, hometown boy. You need a little excitement in your life, Evans. And I, for one, hope the good doctor gives it to you good.”

‘TO BE FAIR I was never interested in goin’ to Planet 7 until I followed him there. The loud music and the techno and the sparkles are not really... my thing. But they’re his, so I’ll get used to it.’ Is he grinning as he says this? Maybe a little, at the corners of his mouth. His stomach flutters. He’s in middle school all over again, made stupid by a crush on a cute person and all he wants is for them to notice him. Lucky for him, Kyle did. She pinches him, and he laughs, pulling his leg back and taking the warning for what it is. ‘Oh, am I? You’re hoping he’ll corrupt me, is that it? I’m boring to you, Cameron?’ The comments make his face heat up, as the good doctor had, at least once already, given it to him good. ‘I don’t know, I think we’ve had plenty of excitement around here lately.’

HE’D ASK TO see it, but... asking a man you barely know to take his clothes off in front of you is untoward in any context. The alien business only makes it all the more so. As little as he knows this man he believes him when he says the mark hasn’t faded. Max can’t feel it, but Steve certainly can. He’d have no reason to lie. ‘I’m... sorry.’ Is it really his place to be sorry? It’s not like he’s trying to keep it around on purpose. ‘I wish I had an answer. I barely understand the mark myself.’
