WOW I haven't updated this blog in slightly over a year. Life's been crazy- its hard to be dedicated to social media with a 60+ hour work week lol ugh.
Have some out of context snapshots from my phone! Bones galore, and finally some real progress on my articulation projects!
Thinking of redoing this whole blog due to the recent rule changes on this hellsite (animal bone photos are now considered "violence" lol okay sure buddy)
My mother has a shoddy birdbath in our yard that she got for like $6 back in the fall. The bottom peice is ceramic, while the bowl part is heavy concrete. The peices are not attached, so the bowl constantly topples off. Its been laying on the ground since early July. We’ve been having a lot of rain this summer so I assumed the bowl fell off in the storms at some point, and none of us cared enough to right the thing.
Wellp. Its been dry for a few days now. Today I decided to lift it up back into place…
SOME FUCKING DUMBASS RACCOON GOT TRAPPED UNDER THE BOWL. I found the skull first. I thought it was one of those poofy fungi at first glance, until I poked it with a stick (so scientific, lol). I shoved aside the choked grass/mess of fur and rot, and soon most of the bones were excavated.
I feel so bad for this unlucky little bastard. The bowl probably fell on him and they perished in the near-constant flooding in my yard. I remember hearing intense raccoon screaming one night a few weeks ago, which isnt that unusual in my neighborhood. But I wonder if it was this one. Not a good way to go. :/
At least his bones will be safe with me.

Me: I want my first skeleton articulation to be as accurate as possible.
Also me, 146 bones in: Who the hell really uses their sternum anyway!?!?!
Got a little surprise while mowing the lawn this morning. I’ve named him “Dance Man” haha. Debating if I should keep him mummified, or clean him up for the bones.
Since it’s starting to get warmer, I thought I’d give a little reminder.
Do not handle dead armadillos. Leave them be and call someone to come and properly dispose of it.
They carry Hansen’s Disease [Leprosy] and are unsafe to handle.
Before 2015, Florida alone only saw about 2-5 cases a year. It jumped to an average of 10 a year after that. 2017 saw 15 cases. In 2015, Scientists estimated at least 20% of the armadillo population was infected. The number could have risen as of this year. Hansen’s Disease is not immediate and can take years for symptoms to show.
Please leave dead armadillos alone! Let someone who is qualified for their disposal take care of it.

When you live with a Vulture, and they tell you something like “Hey, you know that container in the yard? Don’t open it.”
Just follow those instructions. Capiche?
My mother’s boyfriend learned not to touch my rot pots the hard way lmaooooo.
Passed this unfortunate boy on the way to work this morning. He was in the same spot after I got home. He’s definitely a pet: he’s overweight and there’s a mostly-healed bite wound on his neck with evidence of veterinary care (previously shaved area around the wound). I don’t know if he got out somehow or was allowed to wander. Either way it always upsets me to come across these scenes.
Please don’t let your cats roam. Keep them indoors. They’ll be healthier and so much safer.
Finds from today's adventure.
Goodnight. See you soon.
Big girl.
Some more shots of the cottontail Jon and I found on the road today. Rabbits are fairly common in my neighborhood; you don’t see them often, but they’re around. She’s possibly the biggest bunny I’ve seen here yet.
She’s the freshest critter I’ve ever found. She must’ve been struck and thrown barely an hour before we saw her. Her eyes were just beginning to dry, and her body wasnt stiff at all. And she’s in good shape for the most part. Definitely suffered internal damage (broken neck and ribs) but her pelt is perfect. I’m a little upset that I have no supplies to skin her, or freeze her until I can (i need to get my vulture set-up started, uughhh). So she’s getting potted whole, for now.
You know its spring when the Vulture gods drop a bunny in your path.
