Jessica had been sat at the guards tower, counting down to the end of her shift. She couldn’t wait to get back to her room, have a warm shower and grab an early night with Gerry.
She glanced at her watch and sighed, bored out of her mind. At least, until something in the distance caught her attention.
Jess stood, taking in the glorious sight that was Carol Danvers. Her best friend in the whole world was here. Alive. “Carol?”
She stood in shock for a moment before leaping off the guard tower and down to the ground, running away from Haven and towards her best friend.
Jessica sprinted, with every ounce of her advanced strength, towards Carol, throwing herself into her arms while her own wrapped around her friends shoulders.
“Where they hell have you been?” she asked, fighting off the tears that threatened to spill as she held her tightly. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
It’s almost like the whole world falls back into place when she sees Jess running towards her. Carol’s arms are out, ready to embrace her, and she’s nearly knocked over by the force of it. Jessica’s arms are so familiar, her grip so steady, that for a moment, Carol forgets the situation they’re in. Pain, horror, zombies... all forgotten, all lost in the moment of finally hugging her best friend again. Finally.
Carol’s arms wrap around her, holding her as tight as possible. Even as Jessica speaks, Carol doesn’t let go of her. She lets her tears fall, tumbling down her cheeks as she buries her head in Jessica’s shoulder.
“Space,” she mumbles with a small laugh; that was always her damn answer.
A few moments pass, and she finally pulls them apart ever so slightly, moving her hands to rest on Jessica’s cheeks so she can secure looking into her eyes as she speaks. “Jesus, Jess, I was so worried. I’m so glad you’re okay. When I saw the state of New York...” She pauses, shaking her head, pulling her back in for another hug. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
