honey is bees spit
Itās actually diluted bee regurgitation. Bees collect nectar and store it in a honey crop (sometimes called a āhoney stomachā but itās not a stomach at all, more of a storage sac), where itās mixed with an enzyme. The nectar is then regurgitated into honey comb and thatās how honey is made.

The Difference between Bumble Bees and Honey Bees
Its come to my attention recently that a few of my bee lover friends are having trouble finding the difference between bumble bees and honey bees.Ā
But thatās okayĀ because it has inspired me to write this post to clear up any confusion!!
Bumble bees and honey bees are actually very different!
Bumble bees have small, round, fluffyĀ bodies and look like this:Ā
Honey bees are more slender and are less fluffy. TheyĀ look like this:
Both bees are not overly aggressive when protecting their nest, but will sting to defend themselves or their colony.Ā
Honey bees can only sting once, whereas bumble bees are capable of stinging multiple times (bumble bees are pretty hardcore)
Bumble bee queens live for one year and other members of the hive only live for three.Ā
Honey bee queens can live for more than three years (honeybee queens are pretty hardcore too)
Bumble bee colonies are much smaller than honey bee colonies, with only a population of a few hundred compared to the honey bee colony which can have up to tens of thousands.Ā
Bumble bees actuallyĀ do not produce a surplus of honey like honey bees, so beekeepers do not collect bumble bee honey for consumption. (Thatās really cool, I didnāt know that!)
Hereās your daily reminder to keep the dandelions in the ground! As you can see this little girl was enjoying herself and the pollen today ā¤ļø

š I present to you: the Mead Hive! š
The base for the hive came from Little LaRue Apiary LLc, and we styled it from there to create the Viking Long house look. Thank you Leon for providing the antler used to make the door handles to access the autoflow frame.
Coming to our bee yard soon: The Mead Hive!
Styled after a viking long house, this hive will hold our second set of Autoflow frames.
