RIP legendary illustrator Jack Davis
People often say to me: “You draw like some kind of inhuman machine. If I eat your brain, will I gain your power?” The answer is yes, but there is another way. The key to precise drawing is building up muscle memory so that your arm/hand/fingers do the things you want them to do when you want them to do them. Teaching yourself to draw a straight line or to make sweet curves is just a matter of practice and there are some exercises you can do to help improve. If you’re going to be doodling in class or during meetings anyway, why not put that time to good use?
Popular Designer Dog Breed Just Twisted Spinal Cord Attached To Collapsed Lung
NEW YORK—Growing quickly in popularity following its official recognition by the American Kennel Club last year, the Toy Whiffle—a floppy-eared collapsed lung loosely attached to a severely twisted spinal column—is now one of the most sought-after designer dog breeds in the country, according to an AKC survey published Thursday. “This hot new breed has everything pet lovers are looking for: the adorable teacup size; the cute little labored wheeze; the permanently prolapsed anus. When people see celebrities dragging them around on TV, it’s only natural they’d want one,” said Toy Whiffle Association president Daisy Macnamara, who noted that since the breed neither requires nor has the physical ability to exercise, it makes a great apartment dog.

February 29th 1940: Hattie McDaniel wins an Oscar
On this day in 1940, Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American to win an Academy Award. McDaniel played the role of slave-turned-maid ‘Mammy’ in the film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind. An epic tale of romance during the period of the Civil War and Reconstruction, Gone with the Wind has since gained notoriety for its portrayal of content slaves and celebration of the plantation culture of the Old South. However, the film was immensely popular and successful at its release in 1939, earning eight Academy Awards, including McDaniel for Best Supporting Actress. McDaniel was born in Kansas in 1895, the daughter of two former slaves, and as a child demonstrated talent at acting and singing. She performed in minstrel shows and sang on the radio, but during the Depression worked as a washroom attendant. McDaniel soon set her sights on Hollywood, and made her film debut in 1932. At this time, African-American actors and actresses were limited to roles as servants, which McDaniel accepted, playing a maid or cook in 40 films during the 1930s. For her apparent complicity in promoting racial stereotypes, McDaniel came under criticism from groups like the NAACP; McDaniel’s response was that she would rather play a maid in a film than be one in real life. Her most famous role - ‘Mammy’ - personified this debate, as, while the character was independent-minded, she also spoke nostalgically about slavery. Due to the segregation policies of the time, McDaniel and her black colleagues were banned from the premiere of Gone with the Wind. Even at the Oscars ceremony at the Ambassador Hotel, McDaniel had to sit at a separate table to her co-stars Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Hattie McDaniel made history as the first African-American performer to win an Oscar, and had a fascinating career until her death in 1952 aged 57. This anniversary is particularly poignant amid the current controversy surrounding the Oscars’ lack of diversity.
“My heart is too full to tell you just how I feel, and may I say thank you and God bless you” - Closing line of McDaniel’s Oscar acceptance speech
I can relate, man.
