emil literally said “you don’t need memories to fight” as reasoning to divide himself n protect the planet. humans were extinct by that point, so he was only protecting places n things that had sentimental value - this sentiment, the memories, were all he had left @ that point. imagine sacrificing that to protect smth. imagine sacrificing ur memories n knowledge for the sake of power, for the sake of protecting what u hold dear, n knowing nothing in the aftermath aside from “I need to protect this.” that’s so so scary. to have no idea what ur doing, where u r, what ur purpose is, n y ur feeling a certain way, but he did that.

emil n nier have such different psyches like,,, it's easy for nier to say "don't look back" after emil killed a bunch of ppl by accident bc that's what nier does, he slays shades n seems to suppress his emotions to cope for the sake of always looking forward n completing his goal of saving yonah. emil has never rlly had a goal like that though? he can't suppress how he feels bc he lives in the moment for all its worth, he feels it. he can't simply keep moving forward bc he's ?? sensitive n analytical n emotional. he's never had to b a stone cold killing machine like the others so it's only natural that he's a little softer

i haven't written up emil's abilities yet but i think one rlly cool one is ,,, the ability to manipulate space. like, he can float or use these ,,, telekinetic powers to move other objects n ppl, but i think he can also manipulate the matter within those spaces. when he sacrifices himself, he encapsulates the dangerous, explosive energy around himself n shrinks it, creating this incredibly dense, small bubble of toxic energy that eventually disappears, taking himself out w it

idk if he completely eliminated it though. bc he survived, n idk how he could've survived if he'd simply erased it. so what im guessing happened is he simply transported it, somewhere way out of reach where the explosion wouldn't have hurt the planet. he took it waaaay out into the atmosphere n let it do its thing, n thats y he's seen plummeting back to earth as just as head!!
